Let’s deflect tattoo scandal from Deobandis to Shias: Liberal blogger Ali Chishti and Sipah Sahaba in action

A few days ago Pakistanis watched in horror when a relatively unknown Karachi based blogger they had known for his seemingly liberal (Fake Liberal), progressive and anti Jihad views, claimed on a TV talk-show that the the Sipah-e-Sahaba (ASWJ-LeJ) and its leaders had nothing to with violence against the Shia Community. The blogger’s name is Ali K. Chishti who writes regular columns for Najam Sethi and Raza Rumi’s The Friday Times and is also affiliated with Sherry Rehman’s Jinnah Institute.

This statement shocked not only the Shia Muslim community but also a vast majority of peaceful Sunnis. Sipah-e-Sahaba and its various aliases (Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat ASWJ, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi LeJ, Jundullah etc) have been implicated in thousands of attacks on Pakistani Shias and Sunni Barelvis claiming thousands of innocent lives, their violent and brutal methods are infamous around the world.

Ali Chishti expressed these views on a political talk show on TV One (hosted by notorious Shiaphobe Saifan Khan). He also went on to praise the SSP Chief Maulana Ahmed Ludhanvi and told the bemused audience that the primary branch of Al Qaeda in Pakistan, the SSP-ASWJ  have nothing to do with violence – Wonder what he has to say about their publically declared hate manifesto against Shia Muslims.

Ali Chishti also advocated for making Pakistan’s notorious Blasphemy Laws even harsher!

He reiterated the demands of the Taliban/Al Qaeda affiliated ASWJ-LeJ/SSP to also include blasphemy against the Sahaba (Companions of the Prophet) in order to further witch-hunt, persecute and kill Shia Muslims.  This tactic of widening the already controversial Blasphemy Laws seeks to squash the historical criticism of Caliph Yazeed bin Muawiya, the murderer of the Holy Prophet’s grand-son, Imam Hussain and his family.  Throughout the show this journalist acted more like Sipah e Sahaba’s spokesman rather than an independent journalist.

According to informed sources, Ali Chishti, a murky character from an educated, middle class family in Karachi first emerged on the scene masked as a member of MQM’s social media team, a few years back. Initially he claimed to have a law degree from United Kingdom and added the title “Barrister” before his name, that changed after questions were raised about his degree and he subsequently stopped using Barrister before his name. He since then has been discredited and sidelined by the MQM as he had started flirting with intelligence agencies and known touts of the military establishment. The pseudo-liberal has made many outlandish claims most of those have been proven to be false. He claimed to be writing a biography about MQM chief Altaf Hussain, a claim MQM strongly refuted. On Twitter, he tries to act smart often bragging about his connections with the high and mighty, most of these claims like all his claims carry very little weight and often a figment of his own imagination. Those who know him personally describe him as a borderline psychopath with a lust for power, fame and money. They also describe him as a person willing to go to any length to acquire favors from the high and mighty.

For most in the journalistic community Ali K Chishti’s statement about the Sipah e Sahaba was a complete reversal of some of his earlier statements but for those who follow the Pakistani media scene with a keen eye, this didn’t come as a total surprise. Pakistani media is littered with the ISI touts passing on as journalists. Most of them have no credentials as journalists but make a living out of fooling the masses. Ali is no exception.

To guage the extant of hypocrisy of Pakistan’s celebrity-NGO “liberals” one needs to go no further than to see this news clipping of Ali Chishti and others filing an FIR against a local Imam for the latter’s alleged apostacy of Sherry Rehman.  The same Ali Chishti is now hobbnobing with the chief of ASWJ-LeJ; an organization which has publically stated its goals to apostasize the 20% of Pakistan’s population that is Shia Muslim.  The same ASWJ is also at the center of violent campaigns against Christains, Ahmadis and Sunnis since the last two decades.

Ali Chishti’s association with a shady character in the Pakistani military known as brigadier Shaukat Qadir is well known. Shaukat Qadir is the same man who was given special permission by General Kayani to write an extensive and detailed report about Abottabad raid which killed OBL. Qadir was also given special access to OBL’s Abottabad compound. Pakistani right wing is often accused of having close ties with Pakistani military establishment, the pseudo-liberals are no different, Ali Chishti is a shining example of the close bond enjoyed between pakistan’s fake liberals & military establishment. Readers can now understand that Ali’s statement about the banned terrorist organization came directly from the GHQ.

In the coming days pakistanis should prepare themselves for more such “revelations” from Pakistan’s fake liberal circles. Ali’s statement about SSP being a non violent organization is part of the establishment’s plan to bring the violent Jihadi-sectarian Deobandi organization in the mainstream. It is also part of the Sipah e Sahaba’a election campaign. In the coming elections Sipah e Sahaba will be presented as a viable and pious alternative to “corrupt & incompetent” PPP government in South Punjab. In other words Ali Chishti has kick-started SSP’s election campaign through his lies.

The onus is on the Pakistani media circles and genuine liberals to shun agency infiltrators from their community. Associating with the likes of Ali Chishti would also give genuinely sincere analysts and media persons a bad name.
