ISI assets begin their act to ensure “supremacy” of their masters
Ahmed Noorani belongs to Ansar Abbasi gang at Jang Group. His agenda along with his boss has always been to malign the PPP government on one thing after the other. Be it the judiciary, national ghairat, taping telephone conversations of various people, Raymond Davis, Osama Bin Laden, his point is always create an angle that can affect the PPP government. After his boss came out with a report on nuclear safety and how diplomats were found near Kahuta, Ahmed Noorani has come up with a defense of his puppet masters by coming up with a report that military top brass blames the civilian government in the fiascos that are currently happening.
The article highlights key points that we have been making previously
The top military leaders on Friday met about 20 top TV anchors and journalists and revealed that the present government had not discussed the war on terror with the army “even once during last three years”.
Top military leaders, however, gave a detailed briefing to more than twenty selected electronic media anchorpersons on Wednesday and shared the nitty gritty of the Abbottabad Operation and explained the point of view of Pakistan Army and ISI on different confusing questions boggling Pakistanis.
Can one ask which top 20 TV anchors were they and why do the two of them need to meet each other? Answer is simple, attack the civilian government and restore the image of the ISI.
A more serious allegation made was that the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC and other cities had issued more than 7,000 visas to American citizens without security clearance which had brought the situation to the present level.
The visa issue has been blown out of proportion. The Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC has clarified its stance numerous times. The article doesn’t talk which other cities have issued US citizens visas without any clearance. This will always remain a grey matter just to lambast the government. It is very clear if the government doesn’t know who gave OBL a visa for Pakistan at least the powers to be can identify who issued the visa to the Yemeni lady whose passport was discovered in Abbottabad. Will they be tried for illegally entering Pakistan or overstaying their visas? Off course, the judges in Pakistan will not try them for terrorism. The matter of visas is irrelevant as the US Navy Seals who operated in the tehsil of Kakul in Abbottabad did not have visas nor did OBL who had one.
In essence the pleadings in the article/report by Ansar Abbasi’s chhotu are senseless. The crux of the article is that 20 anchors have been briefed and the points to be discussed are the visas to Americans without security clearance. Expect further attacks in the next few days on the political and civilian government while absolving the military and ISI as innocents.
Grow up our media.
Army top brass blames civilians
Ahmed Noorani
The News, May 7, 2011
ISLAMABAD: A silent but serious blame game has started between the military and civilian leadership of Pakistan and the top most army leaders have accused the civilians leadership of ignoring the war on terror and bypassing the army and the intelligence agencies in dealing with the Americans.
The stunned civilians are tight lipped but Ambassador Husain Haqqani has retaliated against the ISI and, by implication, the army. He has full support of President Zardari.
The top military leaders on Friday met about 20 top TV anchors and journalists and revealed that the present government had not discussed the war on terror with the army “even once during last three years”.
A more serious allegation made was that the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC and other cities had issued more than 7,000 visas to American citizens without security clearance which had brought the situation to the present level.
Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan, federal Secretary Salman Bashir and Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua refused to speak on the issue through their staff while the Prime Minister’s Secretariat just gave a brief response.
A private TV channel, however, quoted Ambassador Husain Haqqani in Washington on Thursday saying that the issue of visas had been settled and everybody was on board when these visas were issued.
Haqqani also accused the army leadership indirectly by saying: “Let us also ask who issued the visas to Osama ben Ladin to come to Pakistan.” Press Secretary to the Prime Minister,
Shabbir Anwar, who was in Paris replied to The News question regarding government non-serious behaviour on the war on terror and suggested that we speak to Inter Services Public Relations(ISPR) on this issue “as only they can guide on this”.
However while replying to the question of issuing more than 7,000 visas to American citizens without mandatory clearance by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, Shabbir Anwar said that Foreign Office should be contacted to get exact details.
Top military leaders, however, gave a detailed briefing to more than twenty selected electronic media anchorpersons on Wednesday and shared the nitty gritty of the Abbottabad Operation and explained the point of view of Pakistan Army and ISI on different confusing questions boggling Pakistanis.
They clarified that the increasing US intervention into different things, issues and aspects of Pakistan was because the present government was obeying each and every order of the US government or military.
One top military official told journalists that during last three years the present PPP government did not discuss or ask the army about any development regarding war on terror and did not give any advice of any kind on this most crucial issue the nation is facing.
He said that neither Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani nor President Asif Ali Zardari ever asked anything. They obey US orders and this has reached such a level that the government issued over 7,000 visas to Americans without any clearance from ISI.
The top Pakistan Army official during the same meeting disclosed that 450 visas were given on one single night. He said that all this was not in their control so Americans were penetrating everywhere.
He said that process of issuance of visas continued without any hindrance and without clearance of concerned intelligence agencies resulting in an influx of a large number of US spies, soldiers and other officials.
On providing information to the CIA about Osama, a senior official said ISI had very clearly conveyed to US government and its intelligence agency that a cellular SIM had been switched on in areas near to Taxila and Haripur and the person was speaking Arabic. “We have not only conveyed this significant information to the US agency but also sent them the transcript of this conversation.”
This top military official said: “Yes, this is true that we couldn’t reach exactly to this Osama compound but it was only because of the information of this SIM and transcript that US agency by using the latest technology reached the target location.”
The statement of this top military official was in direct conflict with what Foreign Office said on Wednesday that Pakistani ISI was providing information to US CIA since 2009 specifically regarding this compound.
However, the military official clarified that same sentence was wrongly incorporated in the press release because of misunderstanding as ISI was providing intelligence regarding periodical switching on this SIM in the same area since 2009 which led US to find out this compound.
When The News contacted different government officials to verify statement of top military official no one was ready to speak on the issue.
When Firdous Ashiq Awan was approached and her staff was asked the question her cell and other phones stopped responding.
When The News contacted office of the Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, his staff said that the Secretary Sb could not speak. His staff was given the question on visas as per directions of the Prime Minister Secretariat but on being contacted later his staff said that there was no answer to this question.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua and her office also responded in the same way and did not reply to the written questions despite tens of requests made on phone and through messages. Countless efforts by The News to get a response from the presidency also failed.
Sources told The News that among others who gave the briefing to the 20 journalists included COAS Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, DG ISI Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha and DG ISPR Maj Gen AtharAbbas.
However, a senior government official claimed that at the time of entry of any foreign national into Pakistan at any airport, representatives of ISI are always present and they are supposed to monitor and verify records of entering foreign nationals.
He said that if there were certain American nationals entering into Pakistan without security clearance they should have been stopped at the airports.
He said that even ISI officials were present on special desks made for Americans arrivals and departures. The official said that the fact is this that military leadership and elite intelligence agencies of Pakistan were on board when this clearance-free visa facility was extended to Americans.
The official representing the government also said that it was out of question that issue of war on terror was never discussed during numerous meetings of the military leadership with the prime minister and the president during these three years.
He said that even if the civilian leadership was not discussing the issue of war on terror, the military leadership should have discussed it at its own.
He said that if for getting deposed judges restored military leadership could visit the presidency twice in a day without any invitation, then why the same could not be done in case of most crucial issue the nation was facing in all these years.
The top government official said that this was not the time for a blame game rather this was the time to admit guilt, shortcomings and mistakes and to make strategy to move forward and take nation out of the present crisis.

It makes me laugh when someone alleges for “malign the PPP government”. What respect and credibility the current PPP government has that someone may malign it? 2nd May is a test case for that. Rehman Malik is either dead or lying in any corner of president house after getting drunk. Zardari is more interested to write for WT or visit Kuwait. Fauzia Wahab is nowhere, who otherwise would be defending the government on TV channels. The fact is that this government has lost all its respect and credibility. I sincerely wish and pray that inshallah Al-Qaida reborns and its first targets are Bilawal, Zardari and Rehman Malik. I sincerely hope and wish to see them in grave before Pakistan is lost.
@Arsalan,
this is not pkpolitics.com, siasatpk.com or anyone of the pro-jihadi websites. You are at the wrong place. We dont write stuff to get commented by people like you!
Rehman Malik has nothing to do with Military Affairs! Fauzia Wahab is no more the party spokesperson.
Hassan Nisar, the social cum intellectual reformer apt at using rhetorical language and high sounding adjectives has also come to the rescue of his paymasters. In today’s column dated 7th May,2011, published in the “Jang”he desperately defends the military and ISI.After we found his true colors he appears nothing but another petty poodle dying for a small piece of bone with some meat on it.
Watch all the TV shows today and observe the Anchors tone, it seems COAS meeting with them has worked, One channel is running a song “Hum Koi Shahdat Bholey Nahi”

If a foreign country intrudes in your country, it’s interior minister who is answerable to people of Pakistan. I think PPP needs basic democracy lessons and how government functions. Democracy doesn’t starts & ends by selling BB’s death and getting sympathy using her name. If it was fault of military, again the PM or interior minister should ask & investigate from them.
Osama Bin Laden was discovered at the backyard of ISI and Pakistan Military Academy, where he stayed for 5 years.
Civilian Government might be held little bit responsible only if he had been found at the backyard of President House or close to the Parliament House in Islamabad or somewhere in Lahore.
Pakistan Military has got more gadgets, expertise and equipment to trace a Terrorist.
Kiani & its military establishment should be cut in size if this country has to survive.

Pakistani Media Reportedly Outs CIA Chief

May 3: A view of Usama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
The U.S. is investigating why Pakistani media broadcast the name of a man they said is the CIA’s Islamabad station chief and if it was an attempt to out the agent following the killing of Usama bin Laden, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.
The U.S. raid that resulted in the Al Qaeda leader’s death put further strain on the already tender relationship between the two countries. Pakistan has adamantly denied that it had any knowledge that bin Laden was hiding for years in a military city not far from its capital.
The alleged name of the Islamabad station chief — one of the CIA’s most significant and sensitive assignments — was first broadcast Friday by ARY, a private Pakistani television channel, The Journal reported. The channel was covering a meeting between the station chief and the director of the Directorate of Inter-Services Intelligence, Pakistan’s spy agency.
ARY’s Islamabad bureau chief told The Journal that not broadcasting the name would have hurt the story’s credibility.
There are currently no plans to withdraw the chief from assignment, and neither the CIA nor Pakistan’s spy agency would respond to the newspaper for comment.
If the Pakistani government was behind the attempt to publicize the name it would be the second outing of its kind in the past six months.
In December, the CIA pulled its then-Islamabad chief out of Pakistan amid death threats after his name emerged publicly.
In that case, Pakistan’s Directorate of Inter-Services Intelligence denied it was behind the unmasking, and warned such allegations could damage its fragile counterterrorism alliance with the U.S.
Now, a week after the U.S. raid, Ambassador Husain Haqqani said in an interview with ABC’s “This Week” that Pakistan was “offended” by the “violation of our sovereignty,” but that “heads will roll” if an investigation reveals any “complicity” regarding sheltering bin Laden within the government.
“Pakistan wants to put to rest any, any misgivings the world has about our role,” Haqqani said, but also added that the U.S. needed to convince Pakistan that it was really an ally.
Meanwhile, in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” President Obama said both countries are going to have to investigate how bin Laden was able to operate in relative security in northern Pakistan.
“We think that there had to be some sort of support network for bin Laden inside of Pakistan. But we don’t know who or what that support network was. We don’t know whether there might have been some people inside of government — people outside of government. And that’s something that we have to investigate. More importantly, that’s something the Pakistani government has to investigate,” Obama said. “But these are questions we’re not going to be able to answer three or four days after the event. It’s going to take some time for us to be able to exploit the intelligence we were able to gather on site.”
National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, pressing Pakistan, also said Sunday that the U.S. wants access to all information gathered by the Pakistanis at the compound and urged the country to follow through on the investigation.
“It is important … for the Pakistanis to investigate what happened here. We don’t have evidence at this point that the political, military and intelligence leadership of Pakistan knew about the bin Laden operation in Abbottabad, Pakistan. But that issue is front and center in Pakistan right now. It does need to be investigated,” Donilon told “Fox News Sunday.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

In 1988 our awe-inspiring ISI yoked the politicians of different parties into the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (the IJI) against the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The person who did this noble job was no other than General Hamid Gul. He has repeatedly and proudly owned up to forming the IJI because the Pakistan Army did not want Benazir to win a sweeping majority. But, at that time, the term Changa Manga politics was not in vogue. Nawaz Sharif has the honour of having fathered the term. After the 1988 elections, the generals did not want Benazir’s PPP to form a government in the province of Punjab. Nawaz Sharif took his own independent and wavering MPAs to the Changa Manga rest house where they were kept (some observers use the word ‘hijacked’) till they vowed fealty to Nawaz Sharif in his bid to become Punjab’s chief minister. Nawaz Sharif was successful. Thus the agencies never wanted PPP. From Bhutto to Zardari the same stereotype response of agencies to PPP government is very evidence that PPP is anti-establishment party.
