The unprecedented massacre of Sunni Barelvis in Lahore: Why have the Sharif Brothers taken on the Army?
posted by Taj | June 19, 2014 | In Featured, Original ArticlesThe ferocity and ruthlessness of the Punjab police’s unprovoked assault on the peaceful Sunni Barelvi/Sufi students, faculty, and workers of Tahir ul Qadri’s Al-Minhaj University, on direct orders from CM Shahbaz Sharif and PM Nawaz Sharif, is unprecedented in Pakistan’s history. Men and women were indiscriminately fired on which resulted in multiple killings. The number of the seriously injured is the dozens. Many observers have said that it is a message to Tahir ul Qadri who is planning to come to Pakistan by the end of June to launch a campaign against the corruption of the PML-N government headed by the Sharif Brothers. But this is a superficial reading of the police violence. Deep down, there is something sinister going on.
It is true that the Sharif Brothers are a creation of the Army under General Zia ul Haq. It is also true that they have always functioned as political proxies of the Army. But it is also true that the Sharif Brothers have always tried to bring the Army, their creator and benefactor, under their control so that they can continue to rule Pakistan uninterrupted. Historically, it is the Army which has ensured that the Sharif Brothers win the elections. For this purpose, the Army created the notorious IJI alliance in 1988 in order to undermine Benazir Bhutto (and they did succeed in it). Again in 1998, the Army rigged the elections to give the Sharif Brothers absolute majority in the parliament. In 2013 too, the Army through its ‘good’ Taliban did not allow the Pakistan People’s Party and the Awami National Party to hold a single election rally giving the Sharif Brothers a free hand to campaign and win the elections.
But it is also true that it was the Army which forced the Sharif Brothers to resign in 1993 over differences with the President Ishaq. Again, it was the Army which dismissed the Sharif governments in Islamabad and the Punjab in 1999 sending them into exile for eight years.
In their exile, the Sharif Brothers learned their lesson well and perfected their dream of becoming Ameer al Mominen for life. They realized that they must break and domesticate their fickle benefactors. They adopted two strategies. First, they made a pact with the House of Saud: They would help the Saudis to turn Pakistan into a Salafi-Deobandi state in return for Saudi support; and second, they made alliances with the Deobandi outfits like the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat and the Taliban to frighten people into voting for them. In turn, the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat and the Taliban had two tasks: Execute the Saudi agenda and support the Sharif Brothers. So far the Sharif Brothers have successfully worked their way. The Deobandis have been killing the Shias, Barelvis, and members of the other communities indiscriminately. They have also provided immense support to the Sharif Brothers in winning elections and staying on in power.
The incompetence of the Amy has repeatedly been exposed by the Deobandis, be it attacks on the Army bases, the Karachi airport, Swat, or FATA. It is clear that the Army cannot take on the Deobandi terrorists. The Sharif Brothers have smelt blood. They have realized that if they can recruit the Deobandi terrorists, they will be able to bring the Army under their control. This is why, they have become exceedingly emboldened. The Saudis and the Deobandi terrorists firmly on their side, they have decided to teach a lesson to the Army.
The Army is to be further damaged though Saudification (deobandization or Talibanization) of the Army from within, we have seen evidence of this in some of the attacks on Army installations. So Army no longer considers the Chief to be the ultimate authority rather the true authority will rest with a Mullah of Saudi or Sharif control. This is a win win scenario for the House of Sauds and Sharifs. The Sharifs become Ameer al Moimineen and the Sauds get unquestioned support and ideological allegiance of a nuclear powered Army.
The assault on the supporters of Qadri is indicative of this new-found confidence of the Sharif Brothers who have realized that the Army cannot do anything to them as long as the Deobandi terrorists are on their side. It is not for nothing that Sharif brothers have been saying that “the Taliban are our brothers”. It is not for nothing that Nawaz Sharif has called the Taliban “our own people”. Although both the Army and the PML-N are pro-Taliban, the Sharif Brothers do not want the Army to control the Deobandi terrorists. In Pakistan it has become clear that those who control the Deobandis will control the country. The Sharif Brothers are leading the Deobandis’ political aces like the Ahle Sunnnat Wal Jamat. By taking on Tahir ul Qadri and his supporters, they have in fact taken on the Army believing that the generals are weak and emasculated. Whether the generals will be able to counter the Sharif Brothers or not will be clear in a few weeks’ time. If the generals blink and give in, Pakistan is in for a long night of civilian tyranny.

There is no use of shedding crocodile tears. This is a logical inference of circumstances created 40 years ago against peaceful AHMADI MUSLIMS. “HORE CHOOPO” There was not a single mufti , allama or maulvi who raised the voice of concern regarding their killing or blood shed . They were all celebrating and happy to see AHMADIES being killed. This seed was potted by us and now we are enjoying the fruit. This fruit is rotten, bitter and awful. Isn’t it? Food for thought for so called intelectuals.
