SCBA, LHCBA lawyers ignoring the law
According to this news report, SCBA and LHCBA lawyers have declared in a joint press conference that they will challenge the 18th amendment on the grounds that it has destroyed the entire structure of the 1973 constitution.
However this stance taken by the lawyers to oppose a constitutional amendment to be passed by both houses of parliament is completely against the constitution which says clearly, regarding constitutional amendments, that
(5) No amendment of the Constitution shall be called in question in any court on any ground whatsoever.

RAWALPINDI: Former attorney general Anwar Mansoor has said that setting up a parliamentary commission for appointment of superior court judges, as envisaged in the 18th amendment, is an attempt to undermine the independence of judiciary.
Talking to journalists after a meeting of the High Court Bar Association here on Friday, Mr Mansoor accused the government of trying to place judiciary under the control of legislature and executive.
He said that lawyers would stand up against all efforts to undermine the independence of judiciary.
He said there were some politicians who had occupied certain positions in their parties and they represented a kind of dictatorship. They did not want democratic values to flourish and institutions to function independently, he added.
Mr Mansoor said that the legislature should concentrate on its primary duty of lawmaking and should not interfere in the domain of judiciary through constitutional amendments.
He criticised the deletion from the Constitution an article about holding of elections within political parties and said certain politicians did not want true democracy in the county.
He said these political leaders did not respect the law and Constitution.
