Hamid Mir on Imran Khan’s first sit-in

"Kya kaha?"

Hamid Mir is a well known drama queen, but today he has just beaten all. In his article titled “Imran Khan ka pehla dharna published in our dearest Daily Jang on April 25, 2011, I had fits of laughter when I read the text after Fauzia Siddiqui sending her bangles to Zardari and Kayani.

it goes like this:

Yaqeen keejiya kay unkay iss ailaan par Junoobi Punjab kay door daraz qasbay Jatoi ka naujawan itna roya kay usnay rotay rotay apnay kapray phaar liye aur aasman kee taraf haath utha kar kehnay laga  kay ‘Aye Allah, meray Pak watan ko Mir Jafaron aur Mir Sadiqon say paak karday, Aye Allah mujhay itni taqat day kay mayn imran khan kay saath mil kar aik maheenay tak iss sarak ko NATO kay truckon kay liye band kardoon aur aik maheenay mayn apni behan Dr. Afia Siddiqui ko Amreeka kee qaid say wapis lay aoon”.

The above when translated into English becomes the following:

“Believe me that upon this announcement (by Fauzia Siddiqui) a youngster from a far away area of Southern Punjab called Jatoi cried so much that he even tore apart his clothes and then supplicated with his hands pointing towards the sky that “O Allah, cleanse my land of pure of Mir Jaffars and Mir Sadiqa. O Allah give me the necessary strength to support Imran Khan and to stop the movement of NATO trucks through this thoroughfare for one month and then during this one month I get my sister Dr. Afia Siddiqui out of an American prison”.

It is important to decipher the message here. The youngster is from Southern Punjab and that too a place called Jatoi. Southern Punjab is a stronghold of the PPP and the place called Jatoi is the tehseel where Mukhtaran Mai case took place. I wish the youngster works hard at whatever his profession and prayed to Allah for strength to overcome challenges in his life. Probably a perfect opportunity to pray went wasted!

Earlier in the same article, he has questioned why the “NGO walian” are raising hue and cry over Mukhtaran Mai but say nothing about the innocents killed in drone attacks.

Then he also incites his readers about “intaqam”. Writing on behalf of a student of Peshawar University, Hamid Mir writes “Peshawar University mayn zair-e-taleem naujawan mujh say keh raha tha kay ‘jab Laal Masjid operation hua to uss nay qasam khai thee kay who Pervez Musharraf say badla lay ga, lekin Musharraf bhaag gaya. Abb uss nay qasam khai hay kay Lahore mayn Raymond Davis kay haathon qatal honay walay naujawanon ka badla wo Asif Zardari aur Shahbaz Sharif say leyga”.

Later on in the same article he shows his disgust towards his colleagues in the language of the same student that he was in rage and took the names of three journalists who were the slaves of America. Though not named, however the three journalists who are under attack all the time belong to the same Jang Group and include Najam Sethi and Nazeer Naji.

This is the unfortunate level of mindlessness and desperation being shown by these “ghairatmand” journalists who seem to be everywhere in a dharna. They now want to promote Imran Khan as a ghairatmand Pakistani worried about the interests of Pakistan and are worried what will happen if these sit-ins and marches reach Islamabad! Question remains, will Imran Khan and his Tehreek-e-Insaaf go to Waziristan and stage their sit in?
