How the Friday Times blog subtly absolves the anti-Ahmadi hate cleric who enabled Malik Ishaq’s Shia Genocide

In a typically wishy washy report, Sectarian threat looms large in south Punjab (TFT issue: August 21 2015) on the threat posed by ISIS-affiliated Deobandi terrorist outfits like ASWJ-LeJ, the Friday Times blog once again displayed poor taste in providing a platform to anti-Ahmadi hate cleric, Tahir Ashrafi.

It is staggering to see how Deobandi hate cleric, Tahir Ashrafi is allowed to get away with such far fetched claims and pathetic excuses. Tahir Ashrafi was instrumental in brokering the subsequent release of Malik Ishaq in 2009 – a release that saw an exponential rise in the genocidal massacres by the terrorist organisation ASWJ-LeJ of which Malik Ishaq was the Vice-President of.  Carlotta Gall’s book highlights the central role played by Tahir Ashrafi (refer to page 114 in the book; excerpt snapshots provided below) in getting Malik Ishaq’s released.

Even Malik Ishaq’s own stance refutes that of his friend, Tahir Ashrafi Deobandi. For Tahir Ashrafi to claim that he is working for peace is laughable. Where was Tahir Ashrafi when his friends at ASWJ-LeJ were publicly boasting about committing Shia Genocide:

Tahir Ashrafi is the same notorious Deobandi hate cleric whose incitement to violence against Pakistan’s Federal Minister, Shahbaz Bhatti Shaheed lead to his murder by Deobandi terrorists of the Taliban just days later.

This is not an isolated incidence as in the past too, the Friday Times blog edited by Mr. Najam Sethi, has provided similar uncontested media space to ASWJ-LeJ and its apologists.  Refer to “Criticism on Ludhianvi’s interview in TFT: Najam Sethi & co shoot the messenger” when the TFT blog provided uncontested media space to ASWJ-LeJ chief Ahmed Ludhyanvi and allowed him to pass off violence inciting hate speech as “political slogans”!

“Important note: Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it was the Taliban or the left-liberal intelligentsia that screwed us over more. Clearly a wolf you can see and take evasive action, a wolf in sheep’s clothing is more dangerous. Najam Sethi claims there is no proof when LeJ (ASWJ) admits to carrying out terror attacks. Najam Sethi is on the same path as rightwing apologists to find an excuse to let the terrorists off the and hate mongers off the hook. In contrast, Mehr Tarar (editor of Daily Times) takes a principled stand that terrorists and hate-speakers must not be provided free, uncritical publicity. It is extremely disappointing that despite self-admissions of carrying out bomb blasts and target killings by ASWJ/LEJ militants, Najam Sethi shows no remorse or apology to the thousands of Shias, Sunnis, Ahmadis, Christians etc that have been killed by footsoldiers of Ahmed Ludhianvi. Instead he is looking for proofs in an environment where all state organs (judiciary, army, media, government) are protecting the killers. Clearly he is supporting those responsible for the Shia genocide, killings of Barelvi Sunni, moderate Deobandi clerics and Christians from Gojra to Joseph colony.”friday
