سنی صوفی نسل کشی: ڈاکٹر شکیل اوج کے خلاف دیوبندی مفتی رفیع عثمانی نے واجب القتل ہونے کا فتویٰ جاری کیا تھا، کراچی پولیس کا انکشاف
کراچی میں فائرنگ کے ایک واقعے میں جامعہ کراچی کے شعبہ اسلامک اسٹڈیز کے سربراہ ڈاکٹر محمد شکیل اوج شہید اور ان کی ایک طالبہ زخمی ہوگئی ہیں۔ یہ واقعہ جمعرات ١٨ ستمبر ٢٠١٤ کی صبح گلشن اقبال میں واقعہ وفاقی اردو یونیورسٹی کے قریب بیت المکرم مسجد کے نزدیک پیش آیا۔
کراچی پولیس کے اعلی افسر ایس ایس پی پیر محمد شاہ کا کہنا ہے کہ ڈاکٹر شکیل کے اعزاز میں ایران کے کلچرل سینٹر خانہ فرہنگ میں تقریب منعقد کی گئی تھی جہاں وہ اپنے ساتھی شعبہ صحافت کے سربراہ طاہر مسعود اور طالبہ ڈاکٹر آمنہ کے ہمراہ شرکت کے لیے جا رہے تھے۔ ایس ایس پی پیر محمد شاہ کے مطابق ڈاکٹر شکیل اپنے دوست کے ہمراہ گاڑی میں پیچھے بیٹھے ہوئے تھے۔ طاہر مسعود اور طالبہ ڈاکٹر آمنہ نے پولیس کو بتایا کہ انھوں نے گاڑی کے پیچھے سے آواز سنی انھوں نے سمجھا کہ شاید کوئی ٹائر برسٹ ہوا ہے۔
ایس ایس پی پیر محمد شاہ کے مطابق ڈاکٹر شکیل کے خلاف توہین رسالت کے الزام میں ایک دیوبندی مدرسے جامعہ دارالعلوم کراچی سے مفتی رفیع عثمانی کی جانب سے فتویٰ بھی جاری کیا گیا تھا، جس کے بعد موبائل فون پر انھیں واجب القتل قرار دے کر ایس ایم ایس کے ذریعے اس پیغام کو عام کیا گیا۔ یاد رہے کہ مفتی رفیع عثمانی کے کالعدم دیوبندی دہشت گرد جمت لشکر جھنگوی سپاہ صحابہ (نام نہاد اہلسنت والجماعت) کے رہنماؤں اورنگزیب فاروقی اور احمد لدھیانوی سے گہرے تعلقات ہیں جبکہ انہوں نے طالبان اور دیگر تکفیری دیوبندی خوارج اور خود کش حملہ آوروں کے خلاف فتویٰ جاری کرنے سے بھی انکار کیا تھا
پولیس کا کہنا ہے کہ دو فائر کیے گئے جس میں سے ایک ڈاکٹر شکیل کی گردن پر لگا جو جان لیوا ثابت ہوا جبکہ دوسرا ڈاکٹر آمنہ کے بازو پر لگا جو اس وقت ایک نجی ہپستال میں زیر علاج ہیں۔ پولیس واقعے کی مختلف پہلوؤں سے تحقیقات کر رہی ہے، جس میں سی سی ٹی وی کیمرے کی بھی مدد حاصل کی جائے گی۔
ایس پی عابد قائم خانی کا کہنا ہے کہ بطور ڈین تعیناتی پر ڈاکٹر شکیل سے کچھ دیوبندی مولویوں سے رنجش بھی چل رہی تھی اور مبینہ ٹاؤن تھانے پر اس حوالے سے ایف آئی آر بھی درج ہے اور تحقیقات میں اس معاملے کو بھی مدِنظر رکھا جائے گا۔ ڈاکٹر شکیل اوج کا تقرر 1987ء میں وفاقی اردو یونیورسٹی میں بطور لیکچرار ہوا تھا جس کے بعد وہ 1995ء میں جامعہ کراچی چلے گئے، جس سے وہ زندگی کے آخری دنوں تک منسلک رہے۔ اسلامیات میں ڈاکٹریٹ کے علاوہ وہ صحافت میں ایم اے اور ایل ایل بی کی بھی ڈگری رکھتے تھے۔ ان کی تصنیفات میں 15 سے زائد کتابیں اور کتابچے شامل ہیں۔ وہ مختلف مکاتبِ فکر کے مدارس میں جا کر لیکچر بھی دیا کرتے تھے۔ ان کے سوگ میں جامعہ کراچی میں تین روز کے لیے تعلیمی اور تنظیمی سرگرمیاں معطل کر دی گئی ہیں۔
یاد رہے کہ دیوبندی مسلک سے تعلق رکھنے والےتکفیری خارجی انتہا پسندوں نے گزشتہ چند سالوں کے دوران پینتالیس ہزار سے زائد سنی صوفی مسلمانوں کو جن میں ایک ہزار سے زائد سنی صوفی اور بریلوی اکابرین شامل ہیں شہید کر دیا ہے، اس کے علاوہ انہی دہشت گردوں نے بائیس ہزار سے زائد شیعہ مسلمان بھی شہید کیے ہیں

Dr Mohammad Shakeel Auj was an author, a professor and dean at Karachi University’s faculty of Islamic Studies. He was the diehard supporter of Shia-Sunni Unity. He also used to edit Al-Tafseer — an HEC-recognised research journal on Islamic Studies.
He has been associated with KU for 19 years and had been heading the Islamic Studies department since February 1, 2012. According to the university’s website, Dr Auj has written 15 books.

اسی جستجو کا نتیجہ ان کے لاتعداد مقالے، مضامین اور تحریریں ہیں جو اخبارات و رسائل کی زینت بن چکے ہیں۔ڈاکٹر اوج لگ بھگ 15 کتابوں کے مصنف بھی تھے۔
وہ علومِ تفسیر قرآن میں تحقیق و تصنیف کے حوالے سے معروف تھے اور قرآن کے آٹھ اردو تراجم کے تقابل پر سنہ 2000 میں ڈاکٹریٹ کی ڈگری حاصل کی تھی۔

ان کا کہنا ہے کہ ’ڈاکٹر اوج کی سوچ اور فکر میں ارتقا تھا۔وہ اپنی علمی زندگی میں بڑے تنوع سے گزرے۔ وہ بنیادی طور پر ایک روایتی مذہبی عالم تھے اور انھوں نے قرآن پر براہ راست غور و فکر کرتے ہوئے اپنے کچھ نتائج فکر مرتب کیے تھے۔‘
خورشید ندیم کا کہنا ہے کہ ’ڈاکٹر شکیل کے ہاں مکالمے کی بہت اہمیت تھی۔ انھوں نے چند ماہ قبل کراچی میں سیرت کانفرنس بھی منعقد کروائی تھی جس میں ہر مکتبۂ فکر کے لوگ موجود تھے۔‘
’وہ اپنی رائے کو کبھی حرف آخر کی طرح پیش نہیں کرتے تھے بلکہ وہ بحث کو آگے بڑھاتے تھے۔کبھی انہوں نے اس کو مسلط کرنے کی کوشش نہیں کی۔اگر ان کی بات کبھی صحیح نہ بھی ہوتی تو رجوع کرنے پر بھی آمادہ رہتے تھے۔‘
ڈاکٹر شکیل اوج دو طرفہ ابلاغ کے قائل تھے اور یہی ان کی تعلیم کا بھی اسلوب تھا۔
انیق احمد کے مطابق وہ بہت اچھے استاد تھے۔ وہ اپنے طلبا کی صلاحیتوں کو آگے بڑھاتے تھے اور سوچ کو وسعت دیتے تھے اور شاید یہ ہی تو ان کا جرم تھا۔

KARACHI: Dean of Islamic Studies Faculty at the University of Karachi Dr Shakeel Auj was shot dead by unknown assailants on Thursday.
His vehicle was fired at following which he was taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital where an official said Dr Auj was dead on arrival and that his family members were present at the hospital.
Dr Auj was shot three times in the neck and chest. He was heading to attend an event by Iranian consulate with a fellow professor Tahir Maqsood. His body has been taken to Jinnah Hospital for autopsy.
The incident took place in Karachi’s Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town near the Baitul Mukarram mosque and police and Rangers personnel reached the site soon after.
SSP Pir Mohammad Shah told BBCUrdu that a madrassah in Karachi had issued a fatwa relating to alleged blasphemy against Dr Auj.
The SSP added that following the fatwa, a message declaring the professor as ‘wajibul qatl’ (liable to be killed) was made public via SMS messages.
Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has ordered Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali to submit a report on the incident.
As news of Dr Auj’s death was confirmed, it was announced that Karachi University would remain closed for three days.

KARACHI, Pakistan — A liberal Muslim scholar who had been accused of blasphemy for a speech he gave during a visit to the United States was shot and killed in Karachi on Thursday, the city police said.
The scholar, Muhammad Shakil Auj, was the dean of Islamic studies at the state-run University of Karachi.
Unidentified gunmen on a motorbike attacked the vehicle he was riding in on his way to a reception at his honor at the Iranian Consulate.
Dr. Auj was shot in the head and neck and died immediately, officials said. A female student in the back of the car was shot in the arm and was treated at a hospital.
A week earlier, a visiting religious scholar at the same Islamic studies department, Maulana Masood Baig, was also shot dead by unknown attackers.
Dr. Auj, 54, had earlier complained to the police about death threats he began receiving after delivering a speech in the United States in 2012, his colleagues and the police said.
Nasir Lodhi, a senior police official, said that Dr. Auj told the police that four professors at the University of Karachi had accused him of blasphemy for comments he made during that speech. Mr. Lodhi said he could not say where the speech was made, or the nature of the offending comments.
Dr. Auj lodged a criminal complaint against the four professors, who were later arrested by the police. One of them, Dr. Abdul Rasheed, had previously held Dr. Auj’s position as dean of Islamic studies at the university. The four men face trial but are currently free on bail, the police said.
Around the same time, a religious seminary in Karachi issued a fatwa against Dr. Auj, accusing him of blasphemy and calling for his death.
Pir Muhammad Shah, a senior police official, said the four professors were being questioned again after Dr. Auj’s killing. “At this stage, it is premature to say anything about the killing of Auj.”
Blasphemy is punishable by death under Pakistani law, and accusations of blasphemy have inspired a rising tide of vigilante killings in recent years that are seen as a sign of growing intolerance in the country.
Human rights groups say the laws are frequently abused in pursuit of personal or professional grudges.
Dr. Auj, who was considered a progressive liberal in his field, had written 15 books about Islam and was a regular participant in television debates about religious issues, according to a profile on the University of Karachi website.
Last month, the government awarded him a presidential medal of distinction for his contribution in the fields of education and research.

KARACHI: Prof Dr Muhammad Shakeel Auj, dean of the faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Karachi, was shot dead on University Road in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and a girl student of his was wounded on Thursday morning, officials said.
He was on his way to attend a ceremony organised in his honour at the Iranian Cultural Centre for getting a Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for his meritorious services in Islamic studies.
Dr Auj, author of over a dozen books, might have been targeted over his religious thoughts and his efforts to unearth an alleged fake degree scam in the KU, police and sources in the KU said.
Dr Prof Tahir Masood, chairman of the Mass Communication Department of the KU, who was accompanying Dr Shakeel Auj, told Dawn that they left the university to attend the ceremony at the Iranian Cultural Centre in Clifton as the doctor was awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz by the government on Aug 14. He added that a friend of Dr Auj’s had sent a chauffeur-driven car to pick him up from the KU. Dr Auj, his teenage niece and student Dr Amna and Dr Tahir Masood sat in the backseat while the front seat was left vacant for the professor’s friend who was to join them on their way.
“I was discussing with him that what should I say about his personality and work in my speech at the ceremony, to which Dr Auj suggested that I should say that he (Auj) focused extensively on research material in his writings,” said the professor.
“As the car drove down the Nipa flyover ramp, I heard the sounds of two bursts,” said Dr Masood. “Initially, I though the tyre of a passing rickshaw might have burst, but soon I realised that there were two bullet holes in the windowpane of the car.”
He told the driver to accelerate the vehicle. In the meantime, the professor’s niece started crying saying that “cruel persons had killed him as he lay down on the seat”. The driver rushed to the Aga Khan University Hospital, ignoring the traffic lights on his way.
As Dr Auj was being shifted on a stretcher when Dr Amna also said she was feeling a pain and it transpired that a bullet had hit her on the hand. Soon after the arrival, at the AKUH the doctors declared him dead and stated that a bullet had struck him in the head, piercing his skull and exiting through an eye. Later, the body was taken to the JPMC for a post-mortem examination. Aziz Bhatti police SHO Sarfraz Ali said the professor had received two bullets fired from a 0.9mm pistol.
“Investigators were focussing on two aspects of the murder,” said Karachi East DIG Munir Ahmed Shaikh. First, Dr Auj had lodged an FIR (460/2012) against unknown people after receiving threatening texts. The FIR was registered under Sections 506-B (threats) of the Pakistan Penal Code and 25 of the Telegraph Act.
During investigation, two persons including a former dean of the faculty of Islamic studies of the KU, Dr Abdul Rasheed, were ‘interrogated’, said the DIG-East. He revealed that the late doctor had received a threatening message over his purported controversial lecture and the message contained that a famous seminary in Korangi had issued a fatwa against him over his alleged blasphemous uttering. But when Dr Auj approached the seminary, they denied having issued such a fatwa against him.
Second, Munir Ahmed Shaikh said, the late dean had taken a ‘serious notice’ of ‘fake degrees’ in Islamic studies awarded by some KU professors. “We have opened the case file and would also collect the information about the two persons detained in the past,” said the senior police officer. He said Prof Shakeel Auj had received such threatening texts when he took up the fake degrees issue.
However, Dr Abdul Rasheed, now dean of the faculty of theology at the Federal Urdu University, told Dawn that it was an “old case” and he was “acquitted” in it. Later on, he had filed a defamation suit against Dr Auj, which was also confirmed by the DIG-East.
Meanwhile, Karachi AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo formed a special investigation team and recommended to the provincial government to announce a Rs2m reward for the arrest of culprits behind the professor’s killing.

Of guilt and goodbye: Too late to thank my Professor

Karachi has known chaos and danger since what seems like an eternity now.
People come and go. One hears news of target killings every day, and the death toll is just a number that’s brought up in small talk now and then.
Yes, everyone feels sad over the loss of lives, especially when they realise how unsafe it is here, and anyone at any time can come and shoot us for no real reason. But it gets so much harder when the person shot dead was one of your loved ones.
Thursday morning started with very tragic news. One of my beloved teachers who had taught us in university was shot dead for some unknown reason.
Dr Shakeel Auj was Dean, Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Karachi since 2012. He completed his PhD in Islamic Studies from University of Karachi in 2000 with a PhD dissertation of “Comparative Study of Eight Selected Urdu Translations of Holy Quran”.

Apart from PhD in Islamic Studies, he also possessed an LL.B and a Master Degree in Journalism. With all his books, research papers, articles and an unending list of prizes and honors, he was an institution of his own.
Dr Shakeel was my lecturer for Islamic Studies during my Bachelors back in 2006. After I graduated, I hardly got a chance to meet him again, and I still regret it.
Dr Auj was an unconventional Islamic scholar who used to believe that Islam was an easy religion to practice, and it was the people who had made it difficult.
We used to have detailed, open discussions on various topics in the class, and he was always very inviting to his student’s opinions despite having tons more knowledge and understanding.
I still remember his analysis on the meaning of “Al Rehmaan” and “Al Raheem”, the two names for Allah; how thoughtful and well-researched it was! Doctor sahab also had a strong media appearance and whenever he was on air, I used to tell my parents proudly that that’s my professor on TV.
I can’t believe that a scholar like him has been shot dead in such a horrendous way. It’s like losing a father; someone who spent his whole life serving others without a complaint and played a pivotal role in teaching, grooming, mentoring, guiding and making us into better individuals today.

But the sad thing is, we never give them the respect they deserve. We pick up their lessons, their teachings; climb the career ladder to turn into so-called successful persons. For every teacher, there are hundreds of us out there in every field, every industry.
Do we ever visit our teachers after passing out, without a need, just to inquire after them?… Just to let them know how much we love and respect what they did for us; what role they played in our ‘success’… to let them know they’re still with us, and that we will always be indebted to them?
Hardly five years after passing out from university, I’ve already lost three of my beloved teachers. Another Professor of mine, Ghulam Hussain passed away due to heart attack a few months ago. He was actually on duty after office hours and was checking examination copies when he suffered a heart failure. Just like Dr Auj, he was a great loss to his family, students, university and to humanity in general. These back-to-back incidents are simply too much.
I’m thinking of making it a tradition of visiting our teachers on a regular basis, or at least on Teacher’s Day which happens to be just around the corner now, on October 5.

What do you say to sharing our joys with our teachers? A new job, a much waited promotion, a wedding; whatever it is, let’s not forget the key role our mentors played in bringing us to this point.
Let’s not wait till their funeral day to think about them again, when we finally pay them a visit, but not without guilt and regret.
Please recite Surah-e-Fateha for the departed soul.
Rest in peace, Dr Auj sahab. An intellectual like you in a society of ignorants like us will always be missed.

ڈاکٹر شکیل اوج کے طالب علموں کا کہنا ہے کہ ڈاکٹر صاحب علم دوست انسان تھے اور دلیل و برہان کی بات کو وہ قبول کیا کرتے تھے لہذا شیعہ مذہب جو اصلً مذہب حقہ ہے اسکی حقانیت کو ڈاکٹر صاحب قبول کرتے تھے۔ وہ فرقہ وارنہ اختلافات کو نظر انداز کرنے والے استاد تھے۔ انکے دیگر ساتھیوں کا کہنا ہے کہ ڈاکٹر شکیل اوج اپنے نظریات کی بنیاد پر وہابیوں کی نظر میں کانٹا تھے جبکہ جامعہ کراچی میں موجود دیوبندیوں کی طلبہ تنظیم جمعیت سے بھی انکے نظریاتی اخلافات تھے۔
مذہب اور فرقہ کو بنیاد بناکر دیوبندی و وہابی مدارس کے سبراہوں نے ملک میں قتل و غارت کا بازار گرم کیا ہوا ہے، جو ملک اسلام کے نام پر وجود میں آیا تھا جہاں ہر اسلامی فرقہ سمیت تمام اقلیتوں کو آزادی دی جانی تھیں وہاں پاکستان بنے کے مخالف دیوبندیوں اور وہابیوں مخصوص اپنے فرقہ کی کھوکھلی شریعت کو نفاذ کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔ لہذا اب وقت آگیا ہے کہ ملک کو مزید خانہ جنگی اور خون خرابے سے بچانے کے لئے ان دہشتگرد مدارس کے خلاف فوری آپریشن ضرب عضب کا آغاز کیا جائے۔

حضرت محمد بن ابی بکر رضی الله عنہ کے خلاف جو قتل کا خفیہ حکم جاری کیا گیا تھا بعد میں اس کی بھی تردید کر دی گئی تھی، یہ اور بات ہے کہ حکم نامے پر مہر خلیفہ وقت ہی کی تھی اور اس حقیقت کی کوئی تردید نہیں کی جا سکی تھی. سوال یہ ہے کہ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر حافظ شکیل اوج کے خلاف فتویٰ کس مدرسہ کے لیٹر ہیڈ پر جاری ہوا ؟ کس مدرسہ کی مہر لگی تھی ؟ اور جس وقت یہ فتویٰ ایس ایم ایس پر گردش کر رہا تھا، جس وقت ڈاکٹر شکیل اوج کے قتل کی کھلی مہم چلائی جا رہی تھی اس وقت کیوں نہیں ایک اخباری بیان جاری کر کے مفتی رفیع عثمانی نے اس “جھوٹے فتویٰ” کی تردید ضروری سمجھی ؟ آج بعد از قتل یہ ڈرامہ بازی کیوں کی جا رہی ہے ؟

جس دیوبندی مدرسے, دارالعلوم کورنگی، مہتمم مفتی رفیع عثمانی، نے ڈاکٹر شکیل اوج کے خلاف واجب القتل ہونے کا فتویٰ جاری کیا تھا اور اس پیغام کو ایس ایم ایس کے ذریعہ عام بھی کیا گیا تھا، اس دیوبندی تکفیری مدرسہ کے مہتمم کو سر عام پھانسی پر چڑھایا جاۓ اور ایسے تمام دیوبندی مدارس پر فوری پابندی لگائی جاۓ جو معاشرے میں دہشتگردی، فرقہ واریت اور تکفیری خارجی فکر کو پروان چڑھا رہے ہیں.

اگر یہ فتوی جعلی تها اور عوام میں رائج ہو چکا تها تو ساری عوام تو اس سے واقف ہوئی لیکن صاحبءفتوی یا جنکے نام سے یہ جعلی طور پر نشر ہوا تها وهی صرف اس سے لاعلم کیوں رہے-قتل ہو جانے تک اس فتوی سے لا تعلقی کا اعلان یا اظہار کیوں نہ کیا-
تو پهریہ لاعلمی نہیں مجرمانہ غفلت ہے اور جرم میں شراکت کے مترادف ہے-اسکے لئے مفتی مذکور کو باقاعدہ نامزد ہونا چاہئے اور ان کو شاملء مقدمہ کیا جانا چاہیے-تاکہ اسطرح کی فتوی بازاری کو ختم کیا جا سکے اور کسی مولوی مفتی کو جرآت نہ ہو کہ کسی مسلمان کو کافر ،ملحد یا زندیق قرار دے-
اسطرح کی فتنہ پرور اور فتنہ انگیز تحریر ہماری اسلامی تارخ(حضرت عثمان کے دور) میں ملتی ہے جس کا انجام اسلامی ریاست کی تباہی اور مدینہ پر یلغارکی صورت میں منتج ہوا-

محمود الحق صاحب خرم بھائی کی تحریر سے تو صاف طاہر ہورہا ہے کہ انہوں نے خوب تحقیق کرکے ہی یہ بات کی ہے جب کہ آپ نے ہی شاید انکی تحریر کو صحیح طرح نہیں پڑھا۔آپ نے جو وضاحتی خط لگایا ہے اسکے مندرجات پر ہی تو خرم بھائی نے بات کی ہے جو اس میں لکھا ہے اس پر ہی تو بحث ہورہی ہے ۔ اصل وضاحت کہاں ہے؟ یہ تو قتل کے بعد کی وضاحت ہے نا اس پر تو ظاہر ہے بڑے سے بڑا اپنی بات سے مکر جائے گا کہ کہیں قتل پر اکسانے کا مقدمہ نہ بن جائے۔

1۔ دین کے معاملے میں قرآن پاک کی بنیادی حثیت ہے
2۔ کسی فرقے کے ساتھ غیر مشروط وابستگی علمی دیانت کے خلاف اور نظری ارتقا میں مانع ہے۔ کسی رائے کے ردوقبول کا فیصلہ مسلکی تعصب پرنہیں، دلیل کی اساس پر ہونا چاہئے۔
3۔ علمی اختلاف باہمی احترام اور سماجی روابط میں رکاوٹ نہیں ہوتا
