Similarities and differences between Wahhabi terrorists of LeT-JuD and Deobandi terrorists of LeJ-ASWJ
Pakistani and international media and anlaysts often conflate the identity of Wahhabi (Salafist) terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT, currently operating as Jamaat-ud-Dawah JuD) with the identity of Deobandi terrorists of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ, an alias of banned Sipah-e-Sahaba, currently operating as Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat-Deobandi ASWJ).
There are, however, some important distinctions and similiarities between the two.
Similarities:
1. Both groups are funded by Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries in the Gulf region.
2. Both are terrorist outfits closedly alinged with the agendas and objective of global Salafist Wahhabi movements eg Al Qaeda.
3. Both are sponsored, nurtrued, trained, equipped and protected by Pakistan army’s intelligence agency ISI.
4. Both groups are full of hatred against Sunni Sufi (Barelvi), Shia and Ahmadi communities. They treat Islamic rituals and practices of Sunni Sufis and Shias as polytheism (shirk) and bad innovation (biddah). They openly declare Shias as Kafir and also spread hateful propaganda against Ahmadis, Christians, Hindus and other communities.
Differences:
1. LeT-JuD is a Wahhabi-Salafist group, they don’t follow any particular Sunni Imam of jurisprudence whereas LeJ-ASWJ is a Deobandi group, they are a fanatic off-shoot of Sunni Hanafi Muslims who follow Imam Abu Hanifa.
2. LeT-JuD is focused on cross-border terrorist activities in India and Kashmir whereas LeJ-ASWJ is focused on supporting Deobandi Taliban and Wahhabi Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Moreover, LeT-JuD is not at all involved in any anti-Shia or anti-Sunni Barelvi violence in Pakistan whereas LeJ-JuD is main terrorist groups responsible for almost all terrorist activities within Pakistan including Shia genocide and violence against other communities.
Here is a Twitter discussion between Abdul Nishapuri, the founder and former editor of LUBP, and Christine Fair, renowned U.S. professor and scholar of South Asia. A few points are clear from the discussion:
1. ASWJ-LEJ (Sipah Sahaba Taliban) are anti Shia organisations and will only be happy upon elimination of Shias in Pakistan.
2. JUD and its affiliated organizations are focussed against India. So they will only be happy upon elimination of a Hindu india.
Both are criminals and terrorists and should be in jails or tuely banned in a civilized society.
