In his English editorial for The Friday Times (TFT Blog) as well as his Urdu column for daily Jang (literal meaning: War), senior pro-military establishment cloumnist Najam Sethi engages in his typically vicious mudslinging against the PPP and President Zardari.

Unfortunately for Sethi, his most serious assertion, that there is a rift between PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his father, former President Zardari, is contradicted entirely by Chairman Bilawal’s glowing and incisive tribute to his father’s presidency in the Huffington Post.  This article by Chairman Bilawal was published just yesterday and not only counters the one-sided propaganda against the PPP by Najam Sethi and his TFT blog but also shreds the notion of an alleged split within PPP.

In his article in HuffPo, Chairman Bilawal writes:

“By far his (President Zardari’s) greatest achievement is shepherding Pakistan through the nation’s tumultuous transition to democracy. The day my mother, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, was buried, I proclaimed ‘Democracy is the best revenge’. As a son, and a Pakistani citizen, I could not be more proud of President Zardari. He has truly given me a second legacy to live up too. He sacrificed eleven and half years of his life as a political prisoner fighting for democracy in Pakistan. He lost his wife and I lost my mother in this battle, but we have won the war. Democracy has arrived. Mark my words, history will remember President Zardari as one of the greatest and most successful leaders the country has ever seen.”

For most of the time, Najam Sethi is a smooth pro-military establishment operator who covers his flanks while passing off slander as news and ill-intentioned gossip as fact.  This is one of the few times he is exposed as the pathological liar and glorified gossipmonger who speaks the tongue of the military establishment and expresses their wishes.   During the last year (2012-13), Najam Sethi and his Friday Times blog (edited by Jinnah Institutte’s Raza Rumi and Sipah-e-Sahaba’s advocates Mohammad Shahzad and Ali Chishti) has tried to create a split within the PPP leadership.  They first published this agency-manufactured gossip in the Such Gup section of the TFT blog.  They then  leaked this lie to a co-opted Indian journalist, Reza ul Hassan Laskar. https://lubpak.com/archives/254313

In his most recent editorial in TFT blog, the ISI-Noora Kushti fame journalist Najam Sethi comes out openly as the source of this gossip. https://lubpak.com/archives/254313

Apparently, military establishment has tasked Sethi and co to create another Fatima Bhutto out of Chairman Bilawal. With his bold column in the Huffington Post, Bilawal has poured cold water on their pro-establishment agenda.

When LUBP first exposed the lies and ill-intentions behind this gossip, we based their support on not just analysis of the past anti-PPP and anti-politician vitriol of the TFT blog and Jang Group (including Geo TV of Hamid Mir, Najam Sethi, Ansar Abbasi and Kamran Khan) but also the official tweeted statements of Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. At that time, some naïve and/or compromised social media activists told us to back off Najam Sethi and cited the example of a couple of phone calls that may have transpired between him and very generous statesperson Benazir Bhutto.

Even if such out of context reported phone calls took place between Pakistan’s most hard working leader (SMBB) and a powerful establishment spokesperson (Najam Sethi NS) , it simply comes across as a routine conversation by SMBB to gauge the agencies’ thinking and the situation on the ground before her return.   A couple of routine calls do not wipe out Najam Sethi’s historical role in the establishment-sponsored witch hunting of SMBB and Asif Zardari. It does not negate the fact that before the overthrow of an elected PPP government by a turncoat on the basis of a Zia-inserted clause (Article 58 2B), Najam Sethi actively engaged in the mudslinging campaign that preceded the overthrow. He was the leading mudslinger and mastermind behind the one-sided , controversial and vicious anti-Benazir Bhutto documentary, “Princess and the Playboy” (funded by the ISI, made by BBC, directed by Najam Sethi, produced 1996). https://lubpak.com/archives/254791

After the elected PPP government was deposed by the turncoat President Farigh Leghari in 1996, ISI-installed caretaker propaganda minister Najam Sethi played a central role in the political witch hunting of the PPP. History tells us that many of the cases that were intiated then were not only politically motivated but even outright manufactured.  Therefore, it is no surprise that Najam Sethi has a history of distorting facts and being part of political witch hunts against the PPP.

Najam Sethi’s latest column in TFT blog and its Urdu translation in Jang is the same propaganda whose variations are presented in most of Pakistan’s press. While PPP government should be held to account, they should only be critisized in proportion to the extent of the power wielded by them.  In the last 5 years, 60% of Pakistan was under the governorship of Najam Sethi-favoured PML-N. Punjab faced the worse power crisis and the provincial government did the least – unlike the Sindh (PPP) and KPK (ANP-PPP) that atleast added some noteworthy power projects.

Najam Sethi conveniently ignores and omits crucial facts on how Takfiri Deobandi terrorists of Sipah Sahaba (ASWJ-LeJ) were let off by the Supreme Court he promoted in his columns as a bulwark against the establishment. He does not mention the role of a viciously one-sided pro-Taliban media. Neither does he care to mention the numerous occassions when the media-Judiciary team worked to undermine the elected PPP government at every term.

His token criticism of the military establishment is a tactic to place the onus of the responsibility on PPP while absolving the more powerful, pro-Taliban military establishment that still calls the shots in Pakistan.

Sethi makes no mention of how PML N – that governed 60% of the country, actively facilitated Sipah Sahaba Taliban whose actions have destroyed the country’s security and economy.

He also forgets to mention the role played by himself, his TFT blog and his media employers (Jang Group) in giving coverage to mass murdering terrorists to justify anti-Shia, anti-Ahmadi, anti-West hate and murder. He does not refer to the blatant nexus between the Jang Group and pro-establishment Judiciary to avoid paying billions of taxes and misuse political office to secure lucrative television rights (eg for Geo Super). He forgets to mention how the Judiciary scuttled various power projects initiated by the PPP on the basis of unproven allegations and how the Judiciary harassed all the appointments made by the PPP to circumvent the energy and lack of taxation revenue.

Sethi makes little mention of the massive corruption of the Judiciary, media and Army and their blatant disregard to be held accountable. For Najam Sethi and his social media supporting thugs and sycophants, accountability begins and ends with PPP. His vicious attack on outgoing President Zardari has even less credibility than the Such Gup Gossip section in his TFT blog.
