“Get’em through Interpol”, whispers Beena Sarwar to Rehman Malik – by Ismail Effendi

Recently, two Pakistani bloggers who are based in North America have informed me that noted “liberal” activist and coordinator of Jang Group’s Aman Ki Asha project, Beena Sarwar, is running a concerted campaign to locate and harass bloggers associated with LUBP.  Her program with Rehman Malik is a proof of this. This employee of Jnag group (which has a history of harassing LUBP) has already driven away some LUBPians and forced others to go underground and desist their activitiy.

In a recent report on Social Media Mela 2012 which was also attended by Rehman Malik, Beena Sarwar writes:

Some tweeps (as twitter users are called) using fake IDs do upload photographs (sometimes not their own) so they don’t show up as eggs, and some use fake IDs due to security reasons. But the bottom line is that those who spoil the ‘twitmosphere’ with their divisive and abusive comments are rotten eggs. Rehman Malik called upon both the governments to take action against those who hide behind fake identities to abuse, bully and threaten others. He also announced that the Ministry of Interior was planning a big social media conference in Islamabad, which he was trying to get Interpol to also attend.

The coordinated actions of Beena Sarwar and Rehman Malik are clear proof of the fact that they want to shut down LUBP and that ShiaKilling.com, PakShia.com, and other pro-Baloch, pro-Ahmadi websites remain threatened. And that ‘uncomfortable blogs’ are placed firmly in the control of the Interior Ministry if they survive.

Expatriate Pakistanis are deeply concerned about the ongoing Shia Genocide in Pakistan. Two of my closest friends in the expat community are from Balochistan – one is a secular Baloch Nationalist and the other is a Shia Hazara. In our discussion, we were deeply disturbed by the various distortions in this issue as well as NGO entrepreneurs selling and distorting our misery to make money.

All three of us are big fans of LUBP. Two of us (including myself) could have been recently counted as PPP supporters and our Baloch friend was also sympathetic to PPP while being a BNP supporter.  That is no longer the case. And what saddens one even further is that those who speak for the marginalized communities are being marginalized and witch-hunted.

The duo of Beena Sarwar and Rehman Malik seem to have been irked by their criticism so much that perhaps on the insistence of the former and her kind that she represents, the latter has even decided to contact Interpol to take action against those who according to them “hide behind fake identities to abuse & bully others”. Beena herself, either superciliously or superficially, has stated so in her Aman ki Asha blog.

It is a travesty of everything human to even think that in a country where terrorists like Malik Ishaq roam freely, the interior minister would belabour himself with witch-hunting a few anonymous writers through not only FIA, but even Interpol. This Gestapao tactic is being coordinated to ensure a successful censorship, while ironically, at least Beena who seems to be the mother of the idea, pretends to be a champion of freedom of expression and a human rights activist.

LUBPians, please be careful.  The knives are being sharpened to get you.

On a similar note, one might as well remind Rehman Malik that if he is really sympathetic to the Peoples Party. He should try to perform his job better by catching terrorists than trying to go after bloggers. In the current government, between 4000 – 7000 Shia Muslims have been systematically targeted and killed.  Hundreds of Baloch youth have been killed and the moderate Baloch leadership (Professor Saba Dashtyari etc) have been wiped out in the most brutal manner possible.

Not only are we getting killed like flies in Pakistan, even the sites that grieve and inform about our suffering are being shut down.  First it was alislam.com the Ahmaddiyah Muslim website.  A few days later it was ShiaKilling.com and PakShia.com.  Principled activists from LUBP, Al Ufaq, Pakistan Blogzine and others were the most eloquent in raising their voice against these Gestapo tactics by the interior ministry. I have been informed that several letters have been written to PPP leadership.  Many of them are known to be sympathetic moderates who feel for Shia Genocide, Baloch suppression and Ahmadi Persecution.

However, instead of immediately restoring ShiaKilling website, Rehman Malik sprinkled salts on the wounds of the targeted Shia community accusing them of putting “objectionable material” on the banned Shia websites.

Excuse me! The only thing that is OBJECTIONABLE is the Gestapo tactics of Rehman Malik.  He said nothing about the hate material that is causing Shia Genocide (websites of SSP that are detailed in Rusty Walker post) but is now essentially telling the Shias that they must NOT catalogue their genocide.  While Rehman Malik is blaming the victims, the Shias, he is completely silent on websites that preach murderous hatred against Shias.

No longer can the PPP hide behind the ISI/military establishment/Judiciary and pretend that they are not culpable. Rehman Malik has seen to that.  One might even say that in Balochistan, Rehman Malik and CM Raisani have ensured that PPP has lost support.  They have made disgusting statements against both Shias and the Baloch Nationalists. This is certainly, and unfortunately, going to deplete the PPP vote bank.

In Karachi, many PPP loyalists see Rehman Malik as an extension of ISI-MQM.  His cruel and failed operation in the former PPP stronghold of Lyari has destroyed PPP’s electoral base in Karachi.  His henchman Wassan is no longer there but Rehman Malik is.  In Gilgit-Baltistan, once another PPP stronghold, support has plunged due the biased manner that Rehman Malik handled the Chillas massacre of the Shias.

While the sacrifice of one black goat and 10 Shias a day might save this weak government for another few months, don’t expect the Baloch, GB, Pashtun and Shia vote anymore.

For further proof that PPP is losing support look no further that LUBP’s main page. I don’t agree with Ikhtiar sahib’s choice of words for the title but I feel his pain.  He is doing a great service to the party by making them realize the pain of Shias.  He is making the party leadership aware that they are loosing their sypmpathy with the  public.  LUBP must not censor Ikhtiar otherwise one of Pakistan’s last bastion of hope in terms of freedom of speech stands to get squashed.  As for Farhad Jarral’s post it is insensitive and no different from the tactics of Rehman Malik and Beena Sarwar. Who is he to dictate how Shias mourn or inform about their suffering! His more-loyal-than-the-king type post will only hurt PPP.

Appendix:

Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior, Rehman Malik on Wednesday directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take legal action against those who pasted objectionable material on Shia Website.

Issuing directions, he warned all such elements to remove objectionable material from the Web pages immediately.

He further directed Director General FIA to submit a report in this regard after talking necessary cognizance to such offence.

The website, www.shiakilling.com, monitors and maintains a “death count” of Pakistani Shia Muslims targeted in sectarian violence.

It was banned by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which operates on the directives of the Ministry of Information.

Upon attempting to access the website, users were met with a “Access denied” message, a usual occurrence for banned websites.

The Shia Action Committee on Tuesday protested on the alleged ban of the website.

The protestors, who were reportedly in hundreds chanted anti-government slogans . Police tried to stop them, which led to an altercation between both parties.

Another Shia website, pakshia.com, has also been reportedly banned by the PTA.

Shia Killing Administration thinks that the statement of Mr. Rehman Malik about blocking of Shia Killing website is a conspiracy. Its motive is only reduction of pressure from government, which is created by Millat-e-Jafferia and divert the concern and shut the mouth of International media.

Now we don’t have trust on any person of this government. Everyone is liar and cheat.
