ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari who is aslo Co-Chairman of PPP has warned the party workers against machinations of anti-democratic forces and called upon them to stand firm and united and to continue the forward march to build a progressive and democratic Pakistan in which everyone lives with honour and dignity.

In a message on 45th Founding Day of the Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) falling on November 30, the President said the day celebrations this year were taking place at a time when the party, its leaders and government is subjected to a vicious campaign to tarnish its image by the remnants of dictatorship even as it has been elected by the people through a democratic vote.

He said, “But let us make it clear that we will foil all conspiracies against the party and will continue to work for strengthening democratic institutions as envisioned by Shaheed Mohtarma Bhutto and for which she laid down her life”.
Bhuttoism lives and will live on to empower the people and strengthen democracy and democratic institutions and to serve the masses, he added.

The Co-Chairman said that government of the Party removed the vestiges of dictatorship from the unanimous Constitution of 1973, opened the doors of political reforms for the first time in over a century in FATA and FCR, lent new strength to democracy through political reconciliation, took on the militants head on and launched a massive poverty alleviation programme the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

These are some of the great victories of the people of Pakistan and especially of the PPP workers, he said.
Paying tributes to the party workers, the President said, “the courageous and devoted workers of PPP are the strength of the Party and the nation. They have never, and never will, waver in their quest for a modern, progressive and democratic Pakistan.

“The dream of democracy has survived on their sweat, blood and tears. It is because of them that dictatorship has not been able to take roots in Pakistan. It never will”.

“The epic struggle for safeguarding democracy and democratic institutions and empowering people will continue no matter what our detractors say or do,” he added.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani asks PPP workers to spread party’s message:

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has asked the workers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to spread party’s core message among the people.

He said PPP is a federal party and has strong roots among the masses in all the four provinces including AJ&K and Gilgit-Baltistan.

This federalist character gives the party a unique position to represent the aspirations of people of the entire country and jell the different elements into a unified national whole, he stated.

In his message on the eve of PPP’s 45th founding day, the prime minister paid glowing tribute to the PPP workers and leaders for their relentless struggle and matchless sacrifices for the cause of democracy and democratic rule.
The prime minister said that ‘Bhuttoism’ was a philosophy of empowerment of the downtrodden and the under-privileged sections of society.

He said by founding PPP Shaheed Zuilfqar Ali Bhutto gave a message that the masses were the real stakeholders in the system and they needed to be made master of their destiny.

“Bhuttoism remains as relevant today as it was about 43 years ago.

It gave people hope in the face of the heavy odds by enabling them to brave the worst storms of dictatorship and tyrannical rule with resilience and optimism.

Socio-economic justice, equality of opportunities, empowerment, and rule of law are the core ingredients of the philosophy espoused by Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto,” he said.
The prime minister paid homage to the leadership of Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto for their sacrifices in the struggle for restoration of democracy and people’s rights.

Gilani said that the masses especially the younger generation needed to be educated about why PPP was established and what it achieved during last forty plus years.

“It is responsibility of the PPP leaders and workers to undertake this responsibility,” he added.
The prime minister said that government of PPP led by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto gave a unanimous Constitution of 1973, which has, ever since, protected the federation by holding all federating units together.

He recalled that it was during the stint of Pakistan’s first elected prime minister that the country’s nuclear programme was launched, which has made the national defence impregnable.
The prime minister said that the present democratic government has introduced some historic reforms in political, economic and legislative domains.

Restoration of original character of the Constitution, devolution of power to the federating units, seventh National Finance Commission Award, Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Act, Reforms in FCR and Extension of Political Parties Act in FATA, successful fight against terrorism, Benazir Income Support Programme, Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Initiative, empowerment of women and the mainstreaming of the minorities are some of the steps taken by the present government, which have potential of changing the destiny of this nation, he added.

The prime minister said that on the occasion of PPP’s founding day, the party workers should remember those in their prayers who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy.
