We condemn Shahbaz Sharif’s violent language against President Zardari
I was appalled to see the highlights of the PML-N rally in Lahore today. Shahbaz Sharif was insistent on killing Zardari and derailing democracy.
I saw at least two instances which were frankly unacceptable.
Firstly, the threat in unequivocal terms that ‘hum tumhein aur tumhare hawariyon ko issi chowk mein ulta latka de ge’
and
Secondly, ‘hum tumhein maat dege aur phir maar day gay’.
This type of language is particularly sad given the fact that the official mourning for Begum Nusrat Bhutto is still under way.
Ironically, only a few days ago Shahbaz Sharif’s Punjab government deemed it fit to impose certain conditions on the PTI’s forthcoming jalsa (30 October, Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore). One of such conditions bars the PTI leaders from delivering speeches against constitutional authorities including President and Prime Minister.
On behalf of my co-editors and authors at LUBP, I condemn this type of language about a democratically elected President and request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto action against CM Shahbaz Sharif. He must be disqualified from holding a constitutional post (CM Punjab) and also from politics.
Here are some news reports which clearly describe the violent language used by Punjab’s CM Shabaz Sharif against the country’s President.
Shahbaz Sharif claimed that those present in the Lahore rally, in Karachi, in Quetta, were rising up against Zardari and were calling on the President to resign and hand himself over to the public for justice. “I make this rally a witness that people of Karachi and Quetta have stood up against Zardari . . . hand the government over to us [PML-N], hand over the money to us . . . we will hang you in the public square,” Sharif boomed.
Punjab chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif addressing the PML-N rally protesting loadshedding and inflation called upon President Zardari to resign, Geo News reported. “Step down Zardari and hand over your money otherwise we will hang you and your cronies upside down here,” cried Shahbaz Sharif while addressing the crowd.” Sharif said Zardari was depositing the nation’s wealth in Swiss bank accounts and the time had come for him to be held accountable for his actions.
However, more than these empty threats against President Zardari which may have resonated more with the workers of Pakistan People’s Party than other Pakistanis was the Shahbaz Sharif’s ridicule for the Constitution of 1973. For the fifth time in my count he read Habib Jalib’s revolutionary poem against the Constitution of 1962 a hand written document of a dictator. In front of thousands of people he proclaimed,
“Aisay dastoor ko, subeh benoor ko, main nahi janta main nahi manta”
This Constitution is an agreement you have sworn to protect, Mr Chief Minsiter! It is neither a dictatorial decree and nor benoor but sacred to 180 million people of Pakistan. So whilst you have followed the foot steps of your brother and challenged a PPP led central government on account of your strength in Lahore you should remember that in the end of it was not your brother who had the last laugh!

‘hum tumhein aur tumhare hawariyon ko issi chowk mein ulta latka de ge’: #ShahbazSharif sounds Lahori Badmassh #PMLN #Lahore #Rally
‘hum tumhein maat dege aur phir maar day gay’ I’ve heard this dialogue repeatedly in B grade movies #ShahbazSharif U need talented writers
It seems to me that Sultan Rahi style #ShahbazShareef’s speech has been written by a number of #Lollywood gujar writers
#LUBP request the #CJP chaudhary Iftikhar to take suo moto action against CM #ShahbazSharif. He must be (cont) tl.gd/dsm024
#Punjab’s minority CM #ShahbazShareef (didn’t even’v simple majority)had threatnd 2 kill reprsntative of D Fedration prez #Zardari in public
Due to Mumtaz Qadri & #Shahbazshareef style people #Pakistan is a extremist and fanatic state, they want to kill people in public.
Excellent, well-researched and timely post Saad.
In my opinion the whole rally was a joke and it was worth enjoying. Sunday will be a tit-for-tat comic event from Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Earlier in the day, Sohail Warraich of Geo (in my opinion, one of the most balanced people in our journalistic community) while responding to a question as to how many people can be expected to be part of the rally, he said that once they had measured the area of Bhaati gate. Assuming a person covers 3 square feet, the maximum people that can be expected to be at Bhaati Gate cannot be more than 22,000.
Some of the things Shahbaz Sharif said: “Mayn helicoptoron pay laanat bhejta hoon. Mayn paidall chaloon ga, cycle par jaoon ga, motorcycle per jaoon ga lekin awam kay paison say helicopter nahee khareedoon ga”. On one occasion he said “Lahore kay 18 crore awam”. “Hum nay Dengue ka muqabla kiya hay, ab zardari ka bhee karen gay”.
Also the recital of Jamhooriat by Shahbaz Sharif has overkilled the poem! This was the 5th time I have heard him sing the poem. It was also hilarious to hear him recite a verse in which he said “Iss nizam-e-zar ko khatam hona chahiye”. I wonder if he even knows what Nizam-e-zar is and how his inqalab will effect his mercantile friends will think of him and his rhetoric.
Iss se bara zulm kaya ho ga, keh Habib Jalib jin ke khilaaf nazmain likhtey rahe, wohee log Jalib ki nazmain gaa gaa kar sunnaa hey
It was a shame to hear the younger Mian stoop so low and use third rate language while speaking about an elected president, elected with an overwhelming majority by three of the four federating units. The Sharifs must remember that it was this very attitude that led to the separation of East Pakistan. We must not allow the Sharifs to sacrifice Pakistan at the altar of their personal enmity. His has exposed them as the empty vessels they are. God save Pakistan from such chauvinists. The elder Sharif is good at performing disappearing acts. Nawaz Sharif made an agreement with Mush and Saudi King not to take part in politics and that is why he has not taken part in any elections. He had ample chance to do that in the last general elections then many by-elections but he stayed out of the power and assembly. He would not dare violate the agreement. No other reason or logic can explain why Nawaz has not been in the assembly? He can fool the people of upper Punjab but not the whole country. He is the same “man” who was sent packing by Mush again and again. Where was his street power against military dictator which they are showing against an elected Govt?
good writeup!!! well written highly commendable
