Shahbaz Sharif’s unfair restrictions on PTI’s public meeting in Lahore
Source: Pakistan Blogzine
While I am no supporter of Imran Khan’s PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf), I consider it every political party’s right to organize political campaign and jalsas (public meetings).
Apparently, PML-N’s government in Punjab (led by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif) is deeply worried because of a potent possibility that PTI might slash significant right wing urban votes from PML-N in the forthcoming elections in 2013. Therefore, the Punjab government is resorting to unfair tactics to deprive PTI of its legitimate right of political activities and public meetings.
A recent example is how Shahbaz Sharif deemed it fit to impose certain conditions on the PTI’s forthcoming jalsa (30 October, Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore) which are out-rightly unfair and ridiculous. One of such conditions bars the PTI leaders from delivering speeches against constitutional authorities (e.g. President, Prime Minister) as well as against army and judiciary. PTI officials have also been barred from delivering speeches which might incite sectarian hatred. While it will be outlandish to expect PTI leaders to speak against our saviours in army and judiciary, it is ironical that the same government which releases SSP’s Malik Ishaq, the confessed killer of more than 70 Shia Muslims, is asking the PTI, a non-sectarian organization, to refrain from sectarian speeches!
These and similar other conditions come from the party (PML-N) which unashamedly uses most derogatory language against the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, whose law minister distributed private family pictures of Governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer through its various agents (e.g., Samad Khurram and Gulam Mustafa of pkpolitics), the party which abused its influence on the Lahore High Court to secure release of known terrorists (Malik Ishaq, Hafiz Saeed, Qari Saifullah Akhtar etc), the party whose leaders proudly participate in public rallies with leaders of Sipah-e-Sahaba (aka LeJ) as a part of their electoral alliance in Punjab.
Here are only a couple of dozens of similar pieces of evidence:

Here is the report (in Urdu) on Punjab government’s unfair conditions conveyed to PTI leaders (published on BBC Urdu). Pakistan Blogzine condemns the PML-N’s Punjab government’s hypocrisy and ask the PML-N leaders to refrain from harassing their political opponents. Freedom of speech and freedom of political activities are a precious component of human rights which must never be ignored nor suppressed.

Lahore – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Lahore chapter on Thursday held a protest against the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) and the Punjab government for removing the party’s banners, posters and hoardings related to its October 30 public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan. The protest was led by PTI Lahore President Mahmoodur Rashid. PTI local leaders and workers gathered outside the party’s Lahore office and shouted anti-Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) slogans. Mahmood said that the Punjab government was feeling threatened by the PTI’s October 30 public gathering and creating hurdles in its arrangement. He said that such non-cooperative attitude of the local administration will not deter people from supporting PTI Chairman Imran Khan. “There are many PML-N billboards in the city but the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) does not dare to remove them, then why it is removing PTI’s billboards,” he added. The PTI Lahore president said that such tactics of the Punjab government will not demoralise PTI workers and the Punjab government should refrain from creating hurdles otherwise the party will approach courts.
‘Imran’s contacts with Salman Butt have ashamed the nation’: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khawaja Asif said on Thursday that cricketer Salman Butt’s confession during the hearing of the match fixing case before the British Queen Jury that he was in touch with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan while bargaining the gambling amount with bookie Mazhar Majeed, has ashamed the whole nation.
During the hearing, when Salman was asked that whom was he talking to on the telephone while standing with cricketer Wahab Riaz, who was wearing a jacket given by Majeed, which carried thousands of pounds, he replied that he was consulting with Imran. Asif demanded that after admitting that he helped his former brother-in-law in gambling and Salman’s confession, a complete investigation should be conducted against Imran for promoting gambling in Pakistani cricket and given punishment according to law so that this menace could be eliminated from Pakistani cricket forever.

Shame on Khwaja Asif! He is uttering this BS against the only captain and legend who brought Pakistan the glory of being world champions and made the nation proud
And conveniently forgets Mujib ur Rehman, the brother of Nawaz Sharif’s beloved Saif ur Rehman who was PCB chairman when Pakistan threw away the match against Bangladesh in the 1999 worldcup and eventually fixed the Final as well despite being favourites. These dumb Noon Leaguers believe they can turn the tide against Imran by doing such false propaganda but they will bite the dust by the grace of God.

Party’s Lahore president says gathering will be last nail in PML-N’s coffin
Lahore – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Thursday chalked out a comprehensive plan to make its public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan on October 30 a success with a pledge to break all illegal restrictions imposed by the City District Government Lahore (CDGL).
Chairing a party meeting to devise a comprehensive strategy for the public meeting, PTI Lahore President Mahmood Rashid said that party chairman Imran Khan would make an important announcement regarding national politics and the party. He told party workers to use their energies to succeed the meeting and overlook all restrictions and negative tactics of the Punjab government. During the meeting, it was decided to constitute an organising committee, which would work for fundraising, transport, publicity, media coverage and public awareness of the meeting. It was also decided that publicity for the public meeting would be done through erecting banners, displaying posters and stickers.
Mahmood said that it was the PTI’s constitutional right to hold a public gathering and no unconstitutional restriction would be accepted. He advised party workers to work under their constitutional limits and succeed the gathering, as it was their democratic right. The meeting, which was attended by PTI Lahore Senior Vice-President Zaheer Khokhar, General Secretary Murad Rass, Farid Ahmed and others criticised the CDGL and Punjab government for granting permission of the public meeting very late. PTI leaders said that the Punjab government was afraid of the PTI’s popularity owing to which it tried to use delaying tactics while permitting the PTI to hold the public meeting. Mahmood said that the October 30 public meeting would prove to be the last nail in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) coffin and show that Lahore belonged to which political party. He said that millions of people would attend the meeting despite all restrictions.

Imran should join hands with JI as they were not tried also. Pakistan can’t afford to try first Imran and than Jamat comes with the same justification. Both should be tried together as both claim to be clean and Anti-America.

Nawaz, Asif losing parties, says Imran
Our Correspondent
Thursday, October 20, 2011
LAHORE
CHAIRMAN Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf Imran Khan said Lahore belonged only to PTI now, which the public meeting of October 30 would prove.
Addressing the student wing of PTI on Wednesday, he added both Nawaz and Zardari were losing grip over their parties just because of their struggle for their own interests. He said President Zardari must be credited for exposing the real face of corrupt leadership, who would be rejected in the upcoming elections. The PTI chief said it was strange that Opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar had realized after three years that President Zardari has been corrupt; whereas, in reality it was his party, which strengthened his rule.
Coming hard on Sharifs, Imran Khan said the ‘Dengue brothers’ always used the support of neutral umpires and now in order to block the October 30 PTI Jalsa, they might use police force and urge transport owners to avoid extending cooperation to Tehrik e Insaf but despite all tactics, the public meeting would be a tremendous success.
He also said the frustrated leaders of PML-N could anytime contact even Shujaat Hussain inviting him for an alliance just like he accepted all those who strengthened Musharraf’s rule. Members of PTI including Malik Ishtiaq, Hassan Niazi, Farrukh Habib and others were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed President PTI Lahore, Ahsan Rasheed President PTI Punjab and Dr Yasmeen Rashid General Secretary PTI Punjab in a statement said that PML-N was now desperate to destabilize the PTI Jalsa, which was to be held on the 30th of October.
They said that PML-N had originally announced their rallies for 23rd, which changed to 26th and were now again being rescheduled for 28th. This constant rescheduling and bringing it closer to the PTI Jalsa shows that they are trying their best to create hindrances by using transport etc for their own rallies and making it difficult for people to come on the Jalsa on October 30.
They also condemned the PML-N attempts to bring down the banners of PTI and said that this exposed the strong-arm tactics that they were willing to use to negate the rising popularity of PTI.
They said that on the 30th of October a historical conventions of the people of Pakistan would take place at Minar-e-Pakistan and no amount of hindrances and disturbances created by PML-N would stop this rise of PTI in the country

Idiot of the century is Shahbaz Sharif
There should be two other Conditions (# 19 and # 20) imposed by the Punjab government for Tehreek e Insaaf’s public rally at Minar e Pakistan, Lahore
19. Imran Khan in his speech will not utter a single word against Sharifs’ corruption, PML (N)’s lota-cracy, Shahbaz’s 12 portfolios, Dengue outbreak, Sasti Roti, Daanish schools, 10-year Exile-to-Jeddah, etc.
20. Imran Khan will, in fact, read out a speech written by Shahbaz Sharif’s speech writer and vetted by Shahbaz Sharif himself and he will not deviate from the provided text.
