Asfandyar Wali Khan must not embarrass his electorate – by Shaista Aazar

During his recent visit to India, the ANP Chief and Chairman Foreign Affairs Committee Asfandyar Wali Khan delivered the first Bacha Khan memorial lecture and talked on the relevance of non violence ideology of Bacha Khan.

When Asfandyar praises his grandfather Badshah Khan (Bacha Khan), the educationist, pacifist and politician, we respect it. When he insists on hisand his party’s secular, liberal and democratic credentials while demanding a review of anti-minorities, discriminatory and anti-human rights laws (e.g. the blasphemy law), we laud and commend him. When he expresses his wishes for peaceful Pakistan India relations, we share these feelings.

But when it comes to his defense of the state of Pakistan, he seems to challenge the common sense and intelligence of us and his Indian audience, and even insults our secular Pashtun nationalist friends who are already skeptical of the ANP attitude toward anti-Taliban forces among Pashtuns. He creates further doubts about his credibility as a representative of secular Pashtuns for toeing the security establishment line.

Unfortunately the PPP and ANP governments in the Center and in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have came as a huge disappointment when it comes to their stance on “War On Terror”.Their lack of courage to question the selective operations, inability to kill or arrest Taliban leadership, killing of Anti-Taliban tribal elders by the military-militant nexus, the blockade of Shia Pashtuns in Parachinar, the extra judicial killings, massive human rights violations by the very organized institution like Pak Army have let down the hopes of their supporters and well wishers.

Though we understand this in the light of  suicide attempts on ANP leadership and witch hunting of PPP leadership by the alliance of terrorists, their apologists apolitical pressure groups and their accomplices in all their crimes, the Islamofascist judiciary and above all their mentors at Aabpara (ISI).

But with due respect, Asfandyar Wali Khan’s lack of information or we may say, ignorance regarding pro-Army militant outfits e.g. LeT, JeM, HuM and HuJI is very embarrassing, to say the least.

When Asfandyar Wali Khan was delivering the Bacha Khan memorial lecture at Jamia Millia Dehli, at the same time here in Pakistan LeT chief Hafiz Saeed was conducting a Hurmat-e-Quran conference with the religious leadership of  pro-military and pro-militants MMA, planning to launch a campaign against the condemnable act of “Koran Burning” by Pester Terry Jones.

Appreciation for India-centric Gen. Kiyani and accenting on Gandhian philosophy of non-violence in single breath,Waaw!! only Asfandyar is capable of saying that (Shaista Aazar)

Here is the news report of Asfandyar lecture at Jamia Millia.

LeT also killing Pakistanis: Asfandyar Wali Khan

New Delhi, Apr 21 : Awami National Party (ANP)  chief Asfandyar Wali Khan on Thursday said India  should not hold Pakistan responsible for the terror attacks carried out by the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT)  terror outfit, as they even kill Pakistani army men and innocent citizens. “India should not hold state responsible  for the acts of non-state actors.

The  same outfit is also killing Pakistani  army men and innocent citizens,” Khan  told reporters here making a reference  to the Lashkar-e-Toiba, which  masterminded the 26 /11  Mumbai terror  attacks. “I don’t say that India’s apprehensions  and misgivings are unjustified or  wrong, I just want you take sense of  what we are going through. Today the  entire leadership of Lashkar-e-Toiba is  in Waziristan, they are fighting the army and killing locals. People who are  killing us how can be held culpable for their acts  of terror,” he added. Khan blamed the judicial system of Pakistan for  slow trial of seven militants accused for planning  and masterminding the 2008  Mumbai terror  attacks in which more than 160  people were killed. Khan, who delivered a lecture at the Jamia Milia  Islamia University here earlier today, urged India  to adopt a reasonable approach to tackle terrorism  and extremism.

He also emphasized that Pakistan  should not be isolated and India, Pakistan and  Afghanistan should come jointly to tackle the  malaise. He also praised Pakistani Army Chief Ashfaq  Parvez Kayani and said that the Gandhian  philosophy professed by Frontier Gandhi is most  needed in Pakistan today than ever before.

Asfandyar Wali Khan, grandson of legendary  Pashtun leader Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, who is  popularly known as Frontier Gandhi or Badshah  Khan, is here on the invitation of Jamia Milia  Islamia University. Earlier in the day, he launched the Khan Abdul  Ghaffar Khan memorial lecture. Khan is also a  member of the National Assembly. (Source)
