Blackwater involved in Karachi catastrophe, says Mufti Usmani
Updated at: 2050 PST, Wednesday, December 30, 2009
KARACHI: Noted religious scholar Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani has alleged that the infamous American agency Blackwater is responsible for the gory incidents of Karachi.
Addressing a news conference along with Mufti Muhamamd Taqi, Mufti Muhammad Naeem, Maulana Tanvir ul Haq Thanvi and traders here on Wednesday, Mufti Rafi Usmani said that Blackwater is involved in the killing of innocent people at the Muharram procession.
Immediately after the blast, markets were set on fire according to a well thought-out plan, he said, inquiring how could the miscreants get petrol and weapons so early.
He claimed that the traders suffered losses worth Rs1oo billion. Mufti Usmani further demanded that immediate measures should be taken for the compensation of losses.

Taliban claim responsibility for the Karachi attack
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AFP) – Pakistan’s feared Taliban network claimed responsibility Wednesday for a suicide bombing that killed 43 people at a Shiite parade in Karachi and threatened further attacks.
The claim was made by one of Pakistan’s most wanted commanders in the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) movement, which for two months has been targeted by a military offensive near the Afghan border.
Monday’s attack in Pakistan’s biggest city reduced events marking the Shiites’ holiest day, Ashura, to carnage and sparked riots, underlining the security challenge faced by the nuclear-armed Muslim country.
It was the deadliest militant attack in Karachi in two years and one of the deadliest sectarian-linked attacks in conservative Pakistan.
“We carried out the suicide bombing in Karachi,” Asmatullah Shaheen, a top militant commander based in South Waziristan, told AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location.
“We did it to protect the honour of the companions of the holy prophet,” he said, referring to a centuries-old disagreement between Sunni Muslims, who dominate the Taliban, and Shiite Muslims over the succession to the Prophet Mohammed.
“We will carry out more such attacks and also target government installations,” Shaheen added.

No Wafaqul Madaris support for Jamia Hafsa
Staff Report
KARACHI: The most important Deoband madrassa board, Wafaqul Madaris Al Arbia Pakistan, that controls 10,000 seminaries across the country with 1.6 million students, announced Saturday that it was not in favour of the methods adopted by the Jamia Hafsa, especially the siege of the children’s library, as taking the law into their own hands was not acceptable in any circumstances.
“We are against a policy of taking on the government in a head-on fight,” he said, “as such a policy can only lead to damage.” The Wafaqul Madaris members hoped that the Jamia Hafsa issues were settled through negotiations and talks. Jhalandari appealed to the Jamia Hafsa to continue with talks with the government. But Jhalandar said he supported all the demands made by Islamabad’s Jamia Hafsa principal and Lal Masjid khateeb, Maulana Abdul Aziz, “one-hundred-and-one percent”.
This was the first such press conference following Aziz’s demand for the enforcement of Islamic law or Shariat in the country. Wafaqul Madaris Al Arbia Pakistan’s Secretary-General Qari Mohammad Hanif Jhalandari said that Islamabad’s Jamia Hafsa and Jamia Fareedia were members of their madrassa board.
“We are in complete support of their four demands – to enforce the Shariat in Pakistan, have the government rebuild all the mosques it destroyed, close down all dens of vice across the country and change the Women’s Protection Act in line with the Quran and Sunnah,” Jhalandari said at the press conference held at Jamia Al Uloom Islamia, Allama Binori Town.
He was accompanied by Majlis-e-Aamla Mufti Rafi Usmani, Jamia Usmania principal Qari Mohammad Usman, Jamia Dawoodkhair principal Mufti Usmanyar Khan, Jamia Binoria Mufti Mohammad Naeem, Jamia Farooquia Dr Adil Khan, Jamia Darul Uloom’s Talha Rehman and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Karachi secretary information Allama Shafqatur Rehman On another note, they addressed the reaction to the Jamia Hafsa developments. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has organized a rally in Karachi for Sunday. Without naming the party, Jhalandari commented on this decision: “A political party in Karachi is organizing a rally against ‘Kalashnikov’ Shariat,” he said. “We would say to them that whatever they are setting out to do is not advisable. By doing this the current situation could move towards a head-on fight. Secular and non-religious groups can take advantage of this and bring things against Islam.”
For his part, Wafaqul Madaris’ Majlis-e-Aamla Mufti Rafi Usmani used the word ‘bar haq’ to express support for the demands of the Jamia Hafsa. “We should continue the struggle that they have started,” he said. “But the path that the Jamia Hafsa people have adopted does not belong in Islam as it is one that leads to violence and fighting, which we do not at all condone or permit.” While answering questions from the press, the Wafaq members present said that it was illegal to build a mosque on encroached land but prominent members of the government, including Gen Ziaul Haq, had themselves prayed in Islamabad’s Hamza Masjid; this should be considered an NOC from the government. When asked about the measures to enforce the Shariat, such as making beards mandatory, the Wafaq members said that they were against force. However, they mentioned that the government should be cognizant of the fact that as a result of its policies, the 1,400 km border with Afghanistan now has 80,000 soldiers while previously the tribal areas provided ‘free’ soldiers to guard the border.

Consider the board chairman of the Dow Jones Islamic Index (IMANX), one Mufti Taqi Usmani. Mr. Usmani is widely reputed to be one of the world’s top experts on sharia finance. Whatever his stockpicking abilities may be, they are dwarfed by his jihadist credentials. A key executive of Pakistan’s prominent Deobandi jihadist factory, the madrassa Darul Karoom Karachi (currently headed by his brother, Rafi Usmani), Taqi Usmani has openly advocated jihad by Muslims in the West, and just last month again publicly endorsed suicide bombing and the Taliban.
Jihad Comes to Wall Street “Sharia finance” does exactly what it promises, financing the spread of sharia — and terror. By Alex Alexiev

If you’ve seen Geert Wilders’s film Fitna, you may not have noticed a single headline amongst all the bombings, beheadings, and earnest expressions of Islam’s eventual world domination: Halal-fund: investments for Muslims. But the investment vehicles referenced are an essential part of radical Islam’s efforts to insinuate itself into Western societies in order to destroy them from within. And Wall Street, barely out of the woods from its disastrous run-in with sub-prime mortgages — and having lost one of its historic investment houses, Bear Stearns, in the process — is now chasing the very kind of “sharia finance” against which Wilders’s movie warns, a business line that may eventually wind up being even more calamitous than the subprime-mortgage fiasco.
For the growing army of its acolytes, who salivate at the prospect of tens of billions of dollars in transaction fees from the burgeoning industry, sharia-compliant finance is seen as little more than a cuddly Islamic version of socially conscious investment — with ethical strictures forbidding usury and sin industries, and emphasizing charity. Indeed, a conference on the subject last Fall co-sponsored by the Wall Street Journal was titled just that: “Islamic Ethical Investment.” According to this rosy interpretation, sharia finance is a windfall for capital markets — allowing Wall Street to skim some foam off the ocean of petrodollar liquidity in the Middle East, and put it to good use.
#ad#Other interpretations are possible, of course. Critics see sharia finance as a massive subversion campaign by radical Islam designed to legitimize sharia in the West, to undermine our markets, and ultimately to imperil our free-enterprise system and national security — all the while exposing banks to financial risks that make the sub-prime fiasco look like a walk in the park. For its proponents and ideological enablers — such as the well known suicide-bombing advocate, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi — sharia finance is nothing less than “Jihad with money.” As al-Qaradawi explains, “God has ordered us to fight enemies with our lives and with our money.” Unfortunately for Wall Street, it’s hard to argue with the good sheikh on that score. Far from being a guide to ethical investment, sharia finance is indistinguishable from sharia itself.
Sharia is a reactionary-to-the-core medieval Islamic doctrine that claims control over every aspect of every Muslim’s life. It imposes such “ethical” mandates on Muslims as the obligation to discriminate against women and non-Muslims; to kill homosexuals, adulterers, and apostates; to establish and maintain Muslim rule around the world; and to carry out violent offensive jihad against infidels. Notably, for those Muslims who cannot engage in physical jihad using force of arms, sharia requires that they support jihad financially. This is what sharia finance is all about.
Far from being a legitimate investment vehicle, sharia finance facilitates religiously sanctioned support for terrorist organizations — as well as providing radical Islamists with highly paid sinecures as sharia-finance board advisors in the sanctum sanctorum of capitalism, all the while that they are pursuing a subversive campaign to destroy it.
Predictably, none of this is even remotely disclosed by any of the dozens of Western banks promoting sharia finance today, which obviously exposes them to huge non-disclosure risks ranging from fraudulent misrepresentation, to material support for terrorism.
Since sharia-finance funds like the IMANX may invest in companies that are not completely halal — that derive their profit from interest or other sharia-prohibited activities — returns on investment in those companies must be purified by donating a portion of that ROI to charity. More often than not, it is people like Usmani who are paid lucratively to sit on sharia-finance boards in order to determine what charities will receive the sharia-finance institutions’ donations — and it’s a fair bet that the March of Dimes is not among them.
IMANX itself is owned and operated by the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), an organization listed as an un-indicted co-conspirator by the Department of Justice in a recent terrorism-finance trial, and the proprietor of hundreds of radical mosques and Islamic institutions in the U.S., including some that have been closed down by the government as criminal enterprises.
The chairman of both NAIT and IMANX, Bassam Osman, has been the top executive of terrorist-funding organizations like the Quranic Literacy Institute (suspected financiers of Hamas whose assets were seized by the U.S. in 1998) and the Islamic Academy of Florida (founded by Sami al-Arian, a convicted financier of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a terrorist criminal enterprise), and is a board member of other un-indicted co-conspirators like the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). Is Dow Jones aware of all this? Is Rupert Murdoch? And if they are not, shouldn’t they be?
The IMANX marketing slogan is “Markets Fluctuate. Principles Don’t.” Judging by the ideological principles of those involved in its leadership, that is precisely what Wall Street — and the West — should fear.
The legitimization of sharia in the West and its gradual imposition in Muslim communities and beyond is a key objective of sharia finance, and there is no doubt it has already made huge strides. Indeed, the precedent of legal sharia-finance transactions was used by the hapless archbishop of Canterbury to buttress his argument that introducing sharia in the United Kingdom was unavoidable.
Given the reality of malignant Islamism now spreading into our own capital markets to the loud cheers of the same Wall Street masters of the universe who gave us sub-prime mortgage securitization, Americans have a right to ask: Where are the U.S. Treasury Department and the SEC, whose job it is to protect our markets? Given the outright fraudulent misrepresentation of the potential liabilities of sharia-finance funds under existing regulations, they should get involved soon.

Karachi BLAST — BOMBING & LOOTING
For flmaing the tika boti… at eid.. it took 1 hour to flame the wood/ angheteee/ coal, but how come it is possible to flame all the building in minutes. Definitly it was pre-planned.
Everyone is doing politics on the blood & money of innocent plp.
Political parties are highly involved.
Why a re-known minister belongs to a re-known political party (who own 150 shops at bolton market) sold all of his shop just a month before..
Has he been alarmed, just a month back, however these shops were 40 years old.
Politics is highly involved.
Just watch a video after the blast..

Those who lost lives, cannot be recovered, this lost cannot be filled, its really tragic for their family for whole life, but those whose shops has been burnt, must be recovered. and Govt should help them all.
These businessman were getting threatened from last 2 years to shift the shop. They don’t know that in this manner it will be done.

Logic of Taliban suppporters
Friends of Taliban in Pakistani media and politics, as well as their agents on the internet (i.e. Hizbut Tahrir mafia), offer various forms of skewed logic in order to either hide, disown, distort or justify various acts of terrorism by Taliban and their affiliate jihadi and sectarian organisations. LUBP has compiled in this featured piece a number of articles and discussions which may be extremely useful in understanding and confronting the Taliban apologists’ strategy. Happy reading!

Let me quote you a dialogue from a best seller by Late. Harold Robbins
‘The truth,’ I said. ‘Can’t any of you tell the truth? Do you always have to manipulate others doing your dirty work for you when the truth is so much simpler?’
‘That’s show business,’ Guy said glibly.
‘I don’t like it,’ I said.
‘You better get used to it if you’re going to stay in it.’ (from The Lonely Lady, 1976)
It is an interesting chain of events:
1. Taliban attack the Shia procession in Karachi because they consider Shia as heretics (gustakh-e-sahaba). Taliban’s primary aim is to destabilize the state of Pakistan, and create sectarian tensions.
2. Taliban apologists (in media, politics, blogging etc) come to their rescue, disowning the attack, and offering conspiracy theories as a cover up.
3. Taliban commander Asmatullah Shaheen claims the attack, and alleges that Shias are heretics and gustakh-e-sahaba.
4. Spiritual leader and mentor of Taliban, Mullah Rafi Usmani, who previously attributed the attack to Blackwater, contacts (through an aide) the Taliban leadership in FATA asking them to disown the attack.
5. Taliban spokeperson in FATA (his alias is Azam Tariq, anyone noticed why?) complies with the instruction of their spiritual leader Mulllah Usmani, and disowns the attack.

KARACHI: Attack on JSQM convoy: Surviving ‘assassin’ being grilled By S. Raza Hassan Sunday, 26 Jul, 2009 | 01:39 AM PST
http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/the-newspaper/local/karachi-attack-on-jsqm-convoy-surviving-assassin-being-grilled-679
KARACHI, July 25: Investigators are interrogating the surviving suspected assassin from an attack on a Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz convoy on Friday in a bid to ascertain who ordered the killings.
The suspect initially kept changing his story regarding his identity, and denied his involvement in the attack, but he has now conceded that he carried out the attack and that he is affiliated with a particular political party.
However, he is not divulging on whose orders the attackers acted, a senior investigator told Dawn.
JSQM chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi was unhurt in the attack, but the party’s Thatta district chief Mushtaq Ahmed Khaskheli was killed. The ambush was carried out near the Racecourse Ground in the jurisdiction of the Malir Cantt police station.
The JSQM convoy was on its way to join a protest rally on the Superhighway against the killing of party workers on July 15 and the police’s perceived failure to arrest the suspects named in the FIR.
One attacker was killed on the spot, while the other was wounded when Bashir Qureshi’s personal guards returned fire. Two accomplices of the attackers fled.
Another investigator told Dawn that the guards returned fire when the AK-47 rifle being used by the wounded suspect became jammed (the fourth bullet in the gun caused the problem). The retaliatory fire resulted in the on-the-spot death of the other suspect, who was riding the motorbike.
The wounded suspect has been hospitalised at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he is under treatment and is said to be out of danger. The suspect had suffered bullet wounds in a leg.
Police have been deployed for the security of the surviving suspect, but some senior police officers expressed concern for his life.
“Those who ordered Friday’s attack would also try to eliminate any evidence left behind,” an officer remarked.
Investigators told Dawn that with the assistance of Nadra officials, the suspect who was killed at the crime-scene had been identified.
It was perhaps the first time that fingerprints collected by Nadra officials revealed the identity of a suspect, the investigator remarked.
The dead man was identified as Syed Mustafa Zahid, son of Syed Zahid Ali, a resident of North Karachi. He had a criminal record and had last gone to jail in 2004. He was released the following year. He was also booked in 1992 and 1995 for two separate murder cases, while his 2004 arrest was under the arms ordinance.
Regarding the other suspect, investigators said that the wounded suspect continually attempted to deceive the police about his identity. Initially, he identified himself as Zulfiqar, but throughout the night he kept changing his name. In all he gave the police 50 different names. Finally, however, the police were able to identify the suspect as Muhammad Imran, son of Muhammad Suleman. Mr Imran is better known by his alias, Imran Kala, and is a resident of Malir.
Mr Imran also has a criminal background and has previously been in jail. An investigator told Dawn that he was sent to jail in February 2006 and was released in November 2007. He was booked by the police for armed robbery and under the arms ordinance on three separate occasions.
Investigators told Dawn that according to jail records, both suspects are affiliated with one faction of the Muhajir Qaumi Movement.
The motorcycle which was allegedly used by the suspects in the attack bore a registration plate from Faisalabad (FSG-3625). Police verified the motorcycle through its engine and chassis number, but it was not registered with the Sindh excise and taxation department.
Investigators have sent the motorcycle for forensic examination in order to ascertain if the two-wheeler was tampered with.
Workers of the JSQM, meanwhile, also handed over the identity cards they recovered from the possession of the suspects.
Investigators told Dawn that identity cards from the premier intelligence agency cited the suspects “ranks” as “sources”. They added, however, that the intelligence agency in question described the cards as being fake.Police said that entry cards for the Malir Cantonment area were also recovered from their possession.
Police registered an FIR (No. 83/2009) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Malir Cantt police station on the complaint of Naeem Mandero, an office bearer of the JSQM.
The surviving suspect, who was initially identified as Zulfiqar (and later identified as Muhammad Imran), has been nominated in the FIR, a duty officer of the police station said.
My views on such videos [flogging and head chopping videos are included] and such journalists who give too much coverage to the so-called Islamic Militants is as under:
Our several TV Anchors for instance Kamran Khan of GEO TV who ‘SUCCESSFULLY’ interview
[Al-Qaeda commander claims responsibility for 9/11 attacks Wednesday, July 23, 2008 Accuses Pakistan of inflicting more damage on his organisation; Mustafa says al-Qaeda men also attacked Danish embassy in Islamabad These comments were made in an interview with Najeeb Ahmed that was broadcast on Monday on Geo TV’s Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Saath programme. This was the first detailed interview in five years of a senior al-Qaeda leader].
some obscure and concocted Militant Abu Mustafa Al Yazid [What is Al-Qaida ? Aaj Kamran Khan K saath P-1] and relayed it on GEO TV for creating more problem for Pakistan. How the hell they get such interviews when even the high tech Western Agencies could’t trace them???
Month after right after 911 Hamid Mir filed a front page Super Headline In Daily Dawn that Osama Bin Laden has 36 Nukes [Hamid Mir wasn’t even Dawn Employee not even on contract in Dawn.
What was the purpose of such stories which always embarrass Pakistan. There are several Militants of Northern Areas who used to address crowded Press Conference and getting coverage in every Private TV Channels in Pakistan. Basically this Rat Race amongst TV Channels has ruined the mental peace of Pakistanis. Nobody is saying to ban TV Channels but did anyone ever questioned the news they present, its veracity, its source, and its background. These TV Channels are keeping alive this “Alleged War On Terror” to make money out of the miseries of People of NWFP, Baluchistan and FATA.
And now, Rehman Malik admits that it was NOT a suicide attack! And blamed the TTP for ‘misleading the investigations!’ So much for TTP claiming responsibility of the attack. It is much like Baitullah Mehsud claiming responsibility of the New York shooting. http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/south-asia/pak-taliban-chief-mehsud-claims-responsibility-for-new-york-shoot-out_100175414.html
So who is it??? No, no… it can’t be Blackwater… it can be anyone, but not Blackwater!!!! bass… keh diya na!
I salute the Shia ulemaas, who stood up to the government and refused to accept the lie that it was a suicide attack.
@SK
Indeed, our foreign enemies may be involved in acts of terror in Pakistan. But who are the most likely foot soldiers from within?
Do you suggest that those who are capable of suicide bombing are not capable of planting a bomb?
A couple of links below might help:
Pakistani militants blow up a government official’s house
PARACHINAR, Pakistan (Reuters, 27 Dec 2009) – Pakistani militants blew up a government official’s house in the Kurram region on the Afghan border on Sunday, killing him and five other people, local government and security officials said.
The attack in the Sadda area, which killed junior local official Sarfraz Khan, as well as his son, appeared to be part of a bloody campaign waged by al Qaeda-linked militants battling the civilian government of President Asif Ali Zardari, seen as pro-American.
The pre-dawn attack on Khan’s home was not related to sectarian violence in predominantly Sunni Muslim Pakistan, and could be a reaction to an ongoing military crackdown on Taliban militants in the region, officials said.

And what do you make of the following analysis by Abdul Hye Kakar:

Finally, this news item which suggests why investigation agencies may be facing problems in identifying the dead body of the probable suicide bomber:
Ashura blast: Did the bomber blow himself with his head down?
By Faraz Khan
KARACHI: Three days after the explosion at the Ashura procession that killed 43 people and wounded several others, investigators are still puzzled over how the heinous crime was committed.
It has still not been established yet whether the bomb was planted or a suicide bomber blew himself up as the identity of all the people whose severed heads were found at the spot have been ascertained and none of them was a suspect. The investigators also are probing whether the Taliban’s claim that they are responsible for the blast is authentic or not.
According to a senior investigation officer, investigators suspect that the bomb was planted in a box reserved for eroded pages of the holy Quran that was hanging from an electricity pole at the site of blast.
Another source said that it could be possible that the suicide bomber might have kept his head down when he blew himself up. He said there have been other suicide bombings in the country in which the head of the bomber is blown apart like other parts of the body.
He also pointed out that arrested would-be bombers have disclosed the new instructions by suicide mission trainers that the bomber should keep his head down before blowing himself up, which would ensure that “the head goes to directly to the heaven”.

IN the ancient Greek myth, when Jason and the Argonauts are on their quest to find the golden fleece, one of the more terrifying dangers they face comes from the ‘dragon’s teeth’.
These objects, when planted in the ground, cause fierce warriors called spertoi to spring forth.
I was reminded of this bit of Greek mythology as I was reading Imtiaz Gul’s extremely well-researched book The Al Qaeda Connection. The author meticulously lists all the various extremist outfits that kill under the banner of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), as well as other equally lethal groups who slaughter the innocent in the name of Islam. He also gives us thumbnail sketches of various warlords who run these gangs.
Ploughing through these details, I wondered how this hydra-headed monster — to bring in another Greek legend — could ever be laid to rest. The reality is that as soon as one of these killers is eliminated, more spring forward to replace them. After Baitullah Mehsud, the vicious leader of the TTP, was finally killed in a drone attack, many Pakistanis breathed a sigh of relief. But almost immediately, Hakeemullah Mehsud took over, and has been directing a ferocious and unending series of suicide attacks across the country.
The latest atrocity on Ashura in Karachi that killed a number of Shia mourners shows that it is impossible to stop such attacks aimed at soft targets. A procession of tens of thousands, passing through miles of densely populated city blocks, simply cannot be safeguarded against determined suicide bombers.
The TTP was quick to claim responsibility for the Karachi attack, as it has done for a number of others. The question of who is funding these killers remains a mystery, although Imtiaz Gul has tried to unravel it in his book. While Saudi funding of extremist groups like the virulently anti-Shia SSP was an open secret, apparently direct government financing from Riyadh ceased after 9/11. However, Gul cites anecdotal evidence to suggest that this money has not completely dried up.
In one example, he follows the indoctrination of a young would-be suicide bomber called Mansoor Khan Dawar of Hurmaz, a small village in North Waziristan. Gul quotes Dawar talking of his training under Abu Nasir al-Qahtani:
“When I met al-Qahtani, he soon impressed me by his thoughts on Islam and America and I decided to become a suicide bomber.… I completed my training in the mountains in 20 days. Most of the time we were either training or praying, and the speeches by al-Qahtani were very emotional and motivating. Our instructors would show videos of atrocities on Muslims, and also teach us verses of the Holy Quran and hadiths against the infidels.…”
Allowed to visit his parents before his final mission, Dawar was engaged by his father, mercifully an educated man, on the jihad being waged by the extremists. He asked his son why these militants didn’t target Arabs, and whether suicide bombing was in line with the Islamic Sharia. Finally, Dawar’s father said he would not block his son’s suicidal path if he received satisfactory replies to these questions from his mentors.
Dawar posed these questions to a local teacher who passed them on to al-Qahtani over the phone. As cited by Gul, the Arab replied: “We receive funds from Arab countries, therefore we cannot carry out any attack there, and if we commit any wrong there, they will stop supply of funds to us. But jihad in Pakistan and Afghanistan is lawful and even the Saudis believe so.”
Disturbed by these self-serving replies, Dawar managed to escape the clutches of these extremists through an agreement brokered by the local teacher. But he is an exception: the vast majority believe that they will achieve instant entry into heaven populated by beautiful virgins. According to one gullible bomber who failed in his mission and was captured alive, his mentor had told him that pulling the trigger on his suicide vest was like punching the button that would ignite the rocket that would carry him straight to paradise.
When Pakistani troops captured a TTP stronghold in South Waziristan recently, they came across a wall with paintings of scenes from heaven; one panel bore images of nude women. It seems these images were used in the brainwashing of impressionable, madressah-educated young men.
In an interesting section about the sources of funding this war, Gul cites a number of Pakistan government initiatives aimed at developing Fata. Apparently, warlords have received millions of rupees by way of diverted public funds. In addition, the late Baitullah Mehsud was given Rs50m to release 280 soldiers captured by him in August 2007. It seems that much of the money provided by taxpayers to develop the tribal areas is being used to slaughter the same Pakistani citizens.
The ISI connection to these killers has long attracted speculation and universal criticism. But Gul quotes both Gen Kayani who headed the ISI for some time during Musharraf’s rule, and Gen Pasha, the present head of the agency, as stoutly denying any ISI involvement. He cites Gen Pasha as declaring: “We would obviously like to fix these rogues. They are killing our own people, and are certainly not friends of this country.”
For many years, the Pakistani establishment has drawn a line between the ‘good Taliban’ and the bad guys. The former are the ones who are battling western forces in Afghanistan, while the latter are the terrorists who have killed and maimed thousands of Pakistanis. But to the rest of the world, this distinction is meaningless: they are all seen as murderous extremists who are waging jihad to impose their Stone-Age values and rules on the rest of us.
For all the talk of negotiations and deals, the fact is that these hardened killers want nothing short of a total victory. They have always used talks as a means of gaining respite, and used the time to rearm and regroup.
But this article is not a message of despair. These extremists can be defeated, provided we are willing to take the tough political decisions needed. These include a thorough reform of the madressahs that churn out the foot soldiers and the suicide bombers. Thus far, both Musharraf and Asif Zardari have failed to take the bull by the horns. Until this is done, the dragon’s teeth sown by Gen Zia will keep on multiplying.

Zardari has closed mouth of media with pearls – Now corrupt media is mouth piece only
Monday, October 20, 2008 – 04:55 AM EST –
Dawn group:
Dawn group is completely sold, now it must remove image of Quaid e Azam from of the front page and may put picture of Zardari instead. Two brothers of DG ISI are running Dawn group, complete sectarian and polluted doctrines of ISPR are widely visible, influence of Sheher Bano alias Sherry Rahman who had been working with this group is another example of pressure on Dawn group, It is completely in grip of gay and lesbian liberals, almost all reports, columnists and sectarian agenda is given by Zardari. After appointment of Abdullah Hussain Haroon at UN, a continuity of same sect monopoly is also visible. Large amount of funds are flowing towards Dawn group from different sources including ISI, ISPR, PID and other sources. Its renowned columnist Cowsji when pointed out case of “Goad” written by Zardari at Mazar e Quaid was not presented in proper report and Dawn group tried to cover the story, neither Dawn TV reported on the issue. Israeli and Indian agents are widely visible on this channel including Irfan Hussain and Subaidar Major (retired) Kamran Shaffi, and with complete grip of Ispahani’s and Agha Khani’s on the paper.
ARY:
ARY is also completely sold, owners of group have deep links with Zardari in corruption cases, and ARY case is its example in money laundering of Zardari. Since long its three top anchors P J Mir, Javed Malik and Mazhar Abbas are already sold and receiving perks from PPP, another anchor Asma Shirazee could be seen with liberal fascist and brother of DG ISPR, it is working on slips of ISPR and PID, moreover it is against sovereignty of Pakistan by joining Indians and providing them access to strategic information. However it is not in the complete grip of liberal fascists as GEO and AAj are.
Jang – Group including GEO:
Have you seen an ad on GEO TV which starts with screaming voice of woman copied from rape scene of any movie? Then a voice starts commentary to bash Islam, soon after that crusaders notorious propaganda and naming terrorists as Islamic terrorist. Whether you think that Mir Shakil ur Rahman is liberal fascist or Jang Group is pro neo-Cons? Both speculations are not correct. In fact sons of Mir Khalil ur Rahman are not fool to side with any ideology openly, it is their history that those jump in ruling boat no sooner any ruler grab power and both sons started to itch palm of the hand, then those start to caress on their belly, finally start looting Govt. sponsored 60% ads, for which those are ready to kill anyone or group irrespective of sympathy. Mir brothers have received millions for running above particular ad to encourage army to attack on peoples.
Have you seen video of Amir Liaqat Hussain to provoke sectarianism, provide opposite sects to take law in their hands. It is out of question that whatever Amir Liaqat Hussain is saying it did not have PPP’s and MQM’s backing, current strategy when Zardari is acting as Ahmad Challibi of Iraq, Benazir is killed like Khoi and all major vacancies have been filled with particular sects to color American made blue print of sectarianism, and convert it in next Iraq. It is feared that a sect which is joyfully distributing Amir Liaqat Hussain’s cassette worldwide could face dire consequences, blue print of Pakistan next Iraq is based on factors to irritate different sects, provoke each other to take law in their hands, communicate hate, and when bomb blasts will start give it color of terrorism. Mir Shakil Ur Rahman is directly responsible if any kind of sectarian fight may start by hiring such polluted person. It is not too late to take action against Amir Liaqat Hussain because print and internet is full of tit for tat replies around the globe, which are difficult to digest.
Role of Dr. Shahid Masood: Perks of Dr. Shahid Masood are another cause of Jealousy among journalists, and a large number of so called journalists are standing in queue to be hired, ARY’s Javed Malik, P J Mir, Hussain Haroon of Dawn is its example. If you may read columns or watch on GEO character of Jang group’s main writers and anchors, surprisingly those are running hate campaign, those have forget NRO and corruption of Benazir and Zardari, tyranny of army and Mush, brutal beating and closures of programs of media only a few months back. Peoples are laughing when Hasan Nisar started to wear Sindhi Ajrak, alcoholics like Nazir Naji, and Masood Ashar, foreign funded NGO’s like Kishwar Naheed, old Shahab and Musawat mentality persons like Irshad Haqqani, Ch: Fawad Hussain, Agha Masood Hussain, Abid Tehami , Imtiaz Alam, and Ikram Saigol have changed their tones. The News is in complete grip of Israeli lobby, a character is Kamila Hayat, hot carnivorous aunty, in this age she keeps eye on teen ager moulvies, it is psychological matter like fiction book “Lehaf” of Ismat Chughtai wrote character.
It was unbelievable that Dr. Shaid Masood will directly broadcast speech of Hamid Karazai from India on PTV, which was rebroadcasted through private TV channels on international networks, standing at SAARC conference and blaming Pakistan, according to him Pakistan is harboring terrorists, reason of broadcast was so plain that he used name of corrupt Benazir as “Shaheed’ two times, in same conference bogus speech of Yousuf Raza Gailani confirmed an impression of third class politician. On the whole a long list of anti-Pakistan elements is on pay role of Jang Group, it has permanent lobby of MQM at Karachi.
Aaj TV:
It is another creation of “Memon Production”, their goal is money, since its anchors have joined liberal fascist groups, its famous programs like “Bolta Pakistan” has lost its credibility. Particularly Nusrat Javed of jamat e Islami has recently joined fascist vigilantes funded by Salman Taseer Singh and neo-crusaders are funding them from hidden resources.
Salman Taseer singh media group:
History of Salman Taseer is based on filth; he is product of cross breed. Mush used him for his purposes later when Benazir-Zardari were allowed for political campaign under deals and NRO, Mush financed him for Urdu paper Aaj Kal. Chief of Shia terrorists groups Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin both runs Daily Times and Friday Times, 99% reports, columns and editorials are based on hate, sectarian agenda and vulgarity. World renowned gay and lesbians, Islam Bashers and Salman Rushdie gang writes for above papers. Mush rule was a golden era for them and those earned billions, and now PPP is using and financing them openly. Newspapers of this group are flag bearers of Judaism, Hinduism and try to pose as agents of crusaders in Pakistan (for overseas financial benefits).
Well distinguished Indian lobby in Pakistan, supported by Zionists, for example Najam Sethi, Ejaz Haider, Aizaz Syed and Jugnu Mohsin are spokespersons of RAW, ex wife of Salman Taseer Singh, Talveen Singh is a resourceful women, and his Sikh son is working with The Times. Daily Times, Friday Times and Aaj Kal have many funny characters such as Khalid Hasan, known as post card, Mirzayee by faith and spokesperson for Israel, a male eunuch, he was hired by Bhutto as bar tender for serving newly joined pedophiles, Kausar Niazi had same taste, he also has some psychological problem of porn and sex, he is scholar of Noor Jahan and Madho Bala, moreover fiction of “Saadat Hasan Minto” is his main contribution, everybody can guess his mindset. In others Rafia Zakria who runs alt-Muslims website, mean to made alterations in Islam, being close girl friend of Salman Rushdie she is trying to alter Islam. Majority of lesbian and ex. Muslims lives around her. In others Irfan Hussain who also writes for Dawn is Israeli agent and head of a leading Israeli organization. Khalid Ahmad and Manzoor Ejaz both are Mirzayee, others most writers are Shia, read analysis of Hasan Askari Rizvi on pay role of CIA or Salman Rashid Mirasi who says that Gen Kiyani is other birth of Bhagvan (if he will continue killing Pushtoons).
Black sheep of media group are sent to USA to shut their mouth:
About two weeks back following so called journalists (black mailers) were financed to propagate in favor of flawed democratic government and blemished president, those all were sent to USA, please watch carefully names which are either moles of ISI or belong to lesbians’ gang.
1. Zaffar Abbas Dawn
2. Mazhar Abbas (Gen Sec of PFUJ and anchor of ARY)
3. Masood Ansari (Dawn group, Herald magazine)
4. Ejaz Haider ( Shia terrorists, daily Times and Friday times)
5. Asma Sheerazi: reporter of ARY, the only lone reporter which uses Hijab, it wondered to watch that her company is always with top pedophiles or gay type journalists. God knows actual matter.
Some other examples:
Nation is hungry and naked and media is running ads of “Benazir support program” since many weeks worth billion, not a single penny has been given to needy peoples but propaganda is at same level which PPP conducted during last regime “Meray Gaon main Bijli Aayee hay”, a loot program. PPP’s main strategy is propaganda, true copy of dictatorship, impatient and non tolerant. Its leaders are issuing bare naked threats to media and want to kill freedom of expression, media is debarred from writing words like “NRO”, “corruption”, “deal” or any criticism against PPP’s flawed democratic government. If any media channels relay discussion programs, PPP’s top leadership did not like to participate. Peoples have stopped watching bogus single sided propaganda programs. There is no doubt that Journalists are filling their pockets and mouth of media owners has filled with pearls, so corrupt Pakistani media is a stigma on the name of journalism. Peoples named them as “his master’s voice” or “mouth piece of corrupt rulers”.
It is wondered that not a single leading channel or paper wrote anything about destruction of Kalabagh Dam by PPP. Where load shedding and lack of power supply has made crazy to citizens.
Responsibilities of media during civil war:
If Pakistani media will not fulfill its obligation to bring truth in public, if it will not raise finger against looters, plunderers and murderers then fate of Pakistan will not different from Iraq, Lebanon or Afghanistan. Stop taking advice of ministry of information or DG ISPR, if there is no way out then at least present both sides of the story. For example in each American aggression in Tribal areas, reports indicate that foreigners are killed, next day it proved to be incorrect, why Pakistani media is not honoring its responsibilities. There is no doubt peoples track and trace truth but it does not mean that media owners are running for for govt. ads to suck people’s money only. It is very well clear that pearls have closed mouths of media and made them mouth peace or his masters voice. There are a few honest journalists who are working on true principals otherwise it was sufficient to trust BBC reports rather local media. Don’t forget tyranny of PPP era’s when Bhutto directly threatened Mir Khalil ur Rahman, and on the issue of “Urdu Vs Sindhi” and “Bangla Desh na manzoor” all newspapers were put under censorship, now media is under threat of corrupt Sherry Rahman, her fourth legal husband is in hospital, otherwise stories of her liberalism are well known. In this flowing Ganga all channels and media groups are directly or indirectly involve in sucking people’s money, role of secret lifafa’s is a separate issue and a kind of corruption and dishonesty.

Parasites strike back – Life threats to Dr. Shahid Masood
By Earthman: International Professor
Standing against tyranny of powerful, corrupt and fascist rulers of Pakistan is a crusade (here word Jihad would hurt sentiments of Beghairat Lobby of Pakistan), since pen and paper holding intellectuals, scholars and journalists are considered to be soft target by powerful war lords, so their first target is always similar class.
When rewinding memories of bitter recollections of previous rulers, none of them left any soft impression, each used its power and unique style of victimization. There are many bitter stories and facts faced by those peoples who raised the flag to fight against social injustice and chalked out corruption of feudal mentality politicians and generals.
Leaving all other stories when mad generals massacred girls of Jamia Hafsa, heart burning sighs of 7000 innocents girls who were killed, abducted or buried alive were shaking my soul, I raised the flag against tyranny of cruel generals, nobody was ready to side with me, intelligence moles were labeling me Al Kaida and Taliban, and anonymous peoples were sending petitions to American politicians to shut my voice.
Later against tyrannical regime of Musharraf when talking against Mush was Jihad. ISI and MI were involved in kidnappings, target killings and sale of citizens, the only voice of Mr. Shaheen Sehbai was also made silent and lonely website was closed. It was a great setback for all those who were fighting against dictatorship and trying to bring back democratic process back on track.
Mr. Abid Ullah Jan, the Director of famous website Dictatorship Watch worked day and night to raise awareness among not only among Pakistanis but also to face powerful western media. Finally Musharraf was kicked out, and the day when Speaker of PPP was elected every one thanked God and think of taking some rest. But PPP followed the same fascist policies, the chapter of accountability was closed, army started to kill citizens as usual and Zardari mafia converted entire country into a colony of the imperialists. Mr. Abid ullah Jan who voluntarily helped in removal of fascist dictator became target of un-grateful peoples, finally disheartened wrote a message on his website “The last message for Pakistan” and quit. (1). It was also a great setback because we had to face another tyrant Zardari, whereas he was spending millions to procure media, journalists and websites.
Sherry Rahman used all evil techniques to close mouth of media and curb on websites. Later Fauzia Wahab, Shaitan Malik, Kaira and Farhat ullah Babar repeated old techniques of dictatorships. I have nothing left to loose but still those try to snatch my leftover belongings. Later pillars of Pakistan media who have the repute and as such have backing of powerful journalistic organizations when started to raise the flag against corruption and misconduct of ruling mafia, than corrupt war lords used dirty techniques and tried to shut their voice, but in vain. Now according to source Zradari mafia has circled many names with red ink for elimination from the scene.
Curb of famous program of Dr. Shahid Masood, “Merey Mutabiq” and life threats to him are unacceptable. We strongly condemned fascist acts of Peoples Party with the warning that you don’t have enough power to shut voice of Dr. Shahid Masood. His program would be delivered door to door, by websites; emails, DVD’s, You Tube, Twitter and unlimited means would make you crazy.
It is strongly recommended that Jang-Group must register complaint to police for future reference and it is duty of all media owners to arrange proper security of leading journalists on the hit list of Zardari, marked with red pen including dr. Shahid Masood, Mr. Ansar Abbasi, Mr. Hamid Mir, Mr. Kashif Abbasi, Mr. Shaheen Sehbai and Dr. Shireen Mazari etc.
Please support Dr. Shahid Masood and other journalists who are raising their voice against fascism, corruption and who are trying for implementation of rule of law in war torn Pakistan. Watch his programs; distribute his programs to neighbors and friends, don’t let shut another voice.
Remember burglars have been caught in broad day light and all passages to exit have been closed, the only trick left over with those thieves is to harm opposite drum beaters and flag bearers, don’t be deceived. It is weakness of media owners who have adopted self created code of conduct under pressure of Pakistan army which is making lion to cats, for details please see next article.

Blast flattens ‘safe house’ of militants in Karachi
By S. Raza Hassan
Saturday, 09 Jan, 2010
Security officials survey while rescue workers shift a dead body at a collapsed house following an explosion in Karachi.—Reuters
KARACHI: A portion of a house was flattened here on Friday morning in what was described as an accidental blast that claimed the lives of six militants.
“We heard a loud bang at about 7:45am and saw two bodies lying in the debris. A Kalashnikov rifle was beside the bodies,” a witness told Dawn.
Police found a cache of arms and ammunition and suicide vests strapped to the two bodies in the house in Baldia Town. The suicide vests were fitted with grenades, they added.
Apparently the suicide vest of the third militant accidentally triggered the explosion, causing a grenade to explode, investigators said, adding that the blast also caused a small crater.
“The vests were not meant for causing maximum damage because these didn’t have high degree of explosives. The vests were supposed to be used as a last resort in case they were apprehended,” an investigator said.
The Saeedabad Police Training College is located at a walking distance from the scene of the blast.
Although police claimed that Interior Minister Rehman Malik was their target, some investigators believed that the militants were planning an attack similar to the one on Manawa police training school, in Lahore, on March 30 last year.
The nature of weapons found in the house showed that the terrorists had prepared themselves for a long haul, the investigators added.
Police found in the house several cartons of tinned food, jihadi literature, books and CDs, stickers of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and Sipah-i-Sahaba pasted inside a trunk containing certifications of graduation from a seminary, cell phones and several SIMs.
Three AK-47 rifles with several dozen rounds, over 25 hand grenades, anti-personnel mines and a pistol were seized, Baldia town SP Zahid Husain said.
According to an initial investigation, the six militants had come to the house at about 3am on three motorcycles. They were guests of Ayaz, younger brother of Riaz who was living in the house with his mother, wife and three children.
All the militants were in their late teens or early twenties.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik told journalists that the militants were from Swat.
Five of the dead militants were identified as Riazul Hasan, Mohammad Husain, Shahbaz Lahori, Asif and Zahid. Ayaz was also killed in the blast, while his brother Ibrar was injured.
Riaz’s mother, wife and two children were in another room at the time of the blast.
The investigators said Khalid, the sixth guest, had walked away from the scene with shrapnel injuries in his legs.
He went to his house, changed and then went to the Civil Hospital. The nature of his injuries prompted doctors to inform police, who arrested him.
The three-room house, located in Sector 8-B, was rented by Riaz two years ago. Maulana Saeed, a peshimam of a nearby mosque, had brokered the deal with the owner of the house, Abdul Rehman, a police officer said.
Riaz, who supplies garments to the Zainab Market, told police that he had gone to a nearby shop, along with his daughter, to buy biscuits. He said he rushed to the house after hearing the blast.
Riaz and members of his family were detained by police for questioning.
Police said that two women who had taken refuge in the nearby Babari Masjid-o-Madressah soon after the blast were also detained.

The Ashura blast which had apparently been claimed by the Taliban was denied by the latter. On Friday, Malik linked Jaish-i-Mohammad, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) and Jundullah with that attack. Earlier in the week, an FIA report had claimed that a new militant group was responsible for the blast. Even as it became clear that the Taliban may not have been involved in the Ashura attack, US ambassador Anne Patterson announced a grant of Rs1bn for affected traders, all the while decrying the Talibanisation of Pakistan.
A similar confusion prevails regarding the actors and reasons behind the killings of several people in the last few days. Political parties in Karachi have been asking the Sindh government to intervene and prevent targeted political killings, of which there have been over 250 in the past six months. Malik, meanwhile, has accused ‘actors’ not affiliated with political parties of trying to fracture the ruling coalition. With particular reference to violence in Lyari, Malik has dismissed it as a familial dispute surrounding a girl’s ‘illicit relations’ while city government officials have pointed to long-running gang warfare in that area. For their part, the police, in many incidents, claim no knowledge about the perpetrators’ identities, motives or their access to arms.
Complicating this scenario is Friday’s Baldia Town blast, possibly related to a Manawan-like attack on a police academy, which indicates that militants with ties to the TTP may be operating in Karachi (interestingly, LJ and Sipah-i-Sahaba stickers were retrieved from the site). The fact is, since June last year, when one of Baitullah Mehsud’s aides was apprehended, the police have been detaining TTP-linked militants in Karachi with some regularity. However, the criminal investigation department (CID) officials have been careful to reiterate that the situation here is murky, with many militant groups uniting under the Taliban banner and drawing recruits from Urdu-, Pushto-, and Punjabi-speaking communities as well as the Bengali community.

Khost bomber
Dawn Editorial
11 Jan, 2010
A video purporting to show a Jordanian suicide bomber, who killed several CIA agents in Khost, seated next to Hakeemullah Mehsud, the leader of the TTP, raises some very troubling questions. While the authenticity of the video has not yet been established, the initial consensus seems to be that it is genuine. Even if it is not, what is clear is that statements claiming responsibility for the attack have been attributed to the TTP and that the TTP has not contradicted those claims as yet.
Here, then, seems to be a spectacular example of collaboration between the TTP, Al Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban. (Al Qaeda has already released a video paying tribute to the Jordanian bomber, while the CIA’s forward operating base in Khost was almost certainly being used to direct operations against the Haqqani network on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border.) So does the attack signal a new phase of heightened cooperation between the various militant groups straddling the Pak-Afghan border? We must recall that Waliur Rehman, a South Waziristan TTP kingpin, recently boasted that the TTP has sent “thousands” of its men to fight the American-led forces in Afghanistan — a claim that has largely been dismissed as propaganda, but which indicates the keenness of the TTP to drum up its role in Afghanistan.
Moreover, do recent events make nonsense of the so-called good Taliban/bad Taliban distinction that the Pakistan Army allegedly makes? Certainly, many have pointed to the problem inherent in the army’s strategy of focusing its operations on those groups that are directly attacking the state here: cross-pollination between ‘discrete’ militant groups has made such a distinction hard to justify. In some cases, the army has had some limited, short-term tactical success with its approach, but the strategic and long-term costs are hard to justify. For example, before the operation in South Waziristan, an ‘understanding’ was reached with Hafiz Gul Bahadur in North Waziristan to stay out of the battle. He did, but then in many cases he has either given sanctuary to TTP militants from South Waziristan or allowed them safe passage.
While we remain aware of the fact that the Pakistan Army does face some very real constraints — opening too many fronts may cause violence to spike even higher inside Pakistan, operations need to planned and paid for, etc — and that the American ‘do more’ demand is problematic, there is also the reality of a hydra-headed enemy. And, as with the mythical Lernaean Hydra, cutting off only some of those heads will not defeat the threat.

Four Jundullah men held for Ashura blasts
By Faraz Khan
KARACHI: Karachi police claimed to have arrested on Sunday four men accused of plotting and carrying out the Ashura bomb attack that killed over 50 people on MA Jinnah Road.
Capital City Police Officer Waseem Ahmed told a press conference that the men in custody belonged to the banned terror group Jundullah, adding that the detainees had confessed to carrying out at least three bomb blasts in Karachi during Muharram.
Calling the arrests made by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) “historic”, Ahmed said his men had arrested the four terrorists late on Saturday night in an area close to the Hawkesbay Road.
“The men were arrested from the 500 Quarters neighbourhood when a police party, led by SSP SIU Raja Umer Khattab, raided the area. The men were apprehended after a brief encounter,” the CCPO said.
Ahmed said police had also recovered a bomb from the men’s possession. He said during initial interrogation, the men had confessed to their involvement in at least three bomb blasts that hit Karachi in Muharram.
The CCPO said the men had carried out bomb blasts on Muharram 8 in Paposh and on Muharram 9 in Qasba. He said they were also planning to target a site near Nagan Chowrangi on Muharram 7, but failed to carry out the bombing due to strict security measures. The men have been identified as Murtaza alias Shakeel, Wazir Muhammad, Shakeel Farooqui and Murad Shah.
Ahmed told reporters that Jundullah had carried out attacks on the convoy of Karachi Corps Commander General Ahsan Saleem Hayat, attack at Avari Towers in Karachi, bomb blast outside the Pak-American Cultural Centre and the bomb attack on the Gulistan-e-Johar police station.
He said Haider alias Shuja was a Jundullah commander and his secret hideout had been discovered in Quaidabad area, however, he is in Wana since January 4. He said Haider was affiliated with an Al Qaeda man Hamza Jofi, alias Haji Mumtaz.

The hunt for Khalid Shaikh Mohammed involved the entire American intelligence establishment, with its billion-dollar arrays of spy satellites and global eavesdropping net. But his capture came down to a simple text message sent from an informant who had slipped into the bathroom of a house in Rawalpindi, near the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. “I am with K.S.M.,” the message said, according to an intelligence officer briefed on the episode. Real face of JI which it was hiding
“QUOTE”
In a surprise move this week, Pakistan’s federal minister of the interior, Faisal Saleh Hayat, listed a number of incidences in which members of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), the premier fundamentalist party in the country, had been tied to al-Qaeda, and called on it to “explain these links”.
“It is a matter of concern that Jamaat-e-Islami, which is a main faction of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal [MMA], has neither dissociated itself from its activists having links with the al-Qaeda network nor condemned their activities,” Faisal said, adding that “one could derive a meaning out of its silence”.
The JI’s leader, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, subsequently denied that his party had any links with al-Qaeda or other militant organizations. “We do not believe in violence,” Qazi said. He criticized the government for making such accusations, saying it was taking directions from the US. Typical of those being arrested is Tariq Baig, a former president of the Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba (a student organization ideologically born of the JI) who was picked up from his residence in central Karachi. According to witnesses, a few cars with black-tinted windows laid siege to his residence, and then heavily armed men in plain clothes took him away. Neighbors claim that Tariq had dissociated himself from the Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba. He participated in the Afghan resistance when the ISI was motivating students to wage jihad against the Soviet occupation in the 1980s. However, other sources say that he was arrested for making calls on his cell phone to people connected with militant organizations. Pakistan turns on itself

Arrest of Baradar shows Taliban presence in Karachi
by Amir Mir
LAHORE, Feb 16: The reported arrest of the Afghan Taliban’s No 2 Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar from Karachi in a joint raid carried out by the Inter-Services Intelligence and the Central Intelligence Agency has given credence to recent claims by senior American officials that some of the mostwanted top Taliban leaders have shifted their base from Quetta to Karachi, considering it a safer place for them to hide.
Well-placed diplomatic sources in Islamabad say the February 11, 2010 arrest of Mullah Baradar would inflict a major blow on the military might of the Taliban given the fact that he was the key military strategist of the Taliban militia which had been fighting with the Allied Forces in Afghanistan for the last nine years. Also it was Baradar who led the Taliban militia’s winter offensive against the Allied Forces in 2008 and 2009 which literally surprised their military commanders.
Sources said the covert operation to arrest Mullah Baradar was carried out by a special team of the ISI and the CIA following a tip-off regarding his whereabouts and that, too, coming from within the Taliban ranks. Sources opined the tip-off might have come from those circles within the militia who had a difference of opinion with Baradar over the issue of holding talks with the Karzai government. The nabbed Taliban leader had been favouring talks with the American and the Afghan governments and his interrogators believe he is in a position to give vital information about the whereabouts of Mulla Omar.
While confirming the arrest of Baradar from Karachi, intelligence sources in Islamabad said he was hiding in Karachi because the Taliban now consider it the safest hiding place in Pakistan, where they do not attract attention of the Pakistani and American intelligence agencies by keeping a low profile. Sources further added Taliban leaders, previously reported to be hiding in Quetta, has been slowly and clandestinely migrating to Karachi, thinking they could operate from there more freely.
Sources added Karachi’s large Pashtun population of 3.5 million makes it friendly for the Taliban who are Pashtuns themselves. The timing of Mullah Baradar’s arrest within days of the kicking off of the first major American military offensive in Afghanistan, called Operation Moshtarak, suggests US and Pakistani intelligence sleuths are working in close coordination with each other nowadays.

Baradar more dangerous than Omar
By Zahid Hussain
Wednesday, 17 Feb, 2010
ISLAMABAD: Known as a brilliant and charismatic military commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar was the second-most powerful figure in Afghanistan’s Taliban movement.
He was described by many terrorism experts as more cunning and dangerous than even the Taliban supreme leader and his old friend Mullah Omar.
Mullah Baradar’s capture from a place on the outskirts of Karachi was the result of increasing US pressure on Pakistan to pursue a policy of killing or capturing the Taliban leadership believed to be hiding in the country.
The detention of one of their most powerful commander sent a clear message to the Taliban leadership that Pakistan was no more a safe haven for them.
Pakistani intelligence had been keeping a close track of the movement of the Taliban leadership which had earlier moved freely.
Mullah Baradar’s arrest demonstrated increasing cooperation between the Central Intelligence Agency and Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence.
Mullah Baradar has been credited for rebuilding the Taliban into an effective fighting force and running the group’s day-to-day affairs for the past many years with Mullah Omar taking a back seat because of his falling health.
Besides heading the Taliban’s military operations, he ran the group’s leadership council, also known as the Quetta Shura because its leaders have been thought to be hiding for years near Quetta.
Mullah Baradar was born in 1968 in Weetmak, a village in Afghanistan’s Oruzgan province. As a young man he participated in the Afghan Mujahideen war against the Soviet forces.
It was during the war that he came to know of Mullah Omar. They fought side by side against the communist forces. Some reports suggest that the two had married two sisters.
After the withdrawal of Soviet forces and collapse of the communist regime in Kabul in 1992, Mullah Baradar and Mullah Omar settled down in the southern Afghan district of Maiwand where they ran their own madressah.
When Mullah Omar started a revolt in 1994 against local warlords with a force of some 30 men, Mullah Baradar was among the first recruits. That was also the beginning the Taliban movement which in 1996 swept Kabul and established a hard line conservative regime.
He first served as Taliban’s corps commander for western Afghanistan and later as the garrison commander of Kabul where he directed the fight against rival Mujahideen commanders in the north.
He was with Mullah Omar when US bombs pounded Kandahar in November 2001. According to some reports it was Mullah Baradar who hopped on a motorcycle and drove his old friend to safety in the mountains.
Many terrorism experts describe Mullah Baradar as the most skilled military leader who spearheaded the fighting in southern Afghanistan. His forces were responsible for inflicting heavy casualties on the Western forces last year.
He also conducted the Taliban’s financial operations, allocated Taliban funds, appointed military commanders and designed military tactics.
Mullah Baradar was quoted last year as telling his fighters not to confront US soldiers possessing superior firepower, but to operate using guerrilla tactics.
He was said to be responsible for the Taliban tactic of planting “flowers” — improvised explosive devices (IEDs) — along roadsides.
Mullah Baradar was believed to have been often travelling to Karachi to meet other members of the so-called Quetta Shura or leadership council who had moved to the port city in recent months.
The intelligence sharing and cooperation between the United States and Pakistan has broadened and deepened in recent months.
The recent CIA drone strikes in South Waziristan that killed top Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud and his successor Hakimullah Mehsud are indicative of the improved relationship between the two allies.
The capture of Mullah Baradar came when American and Afghan forces are in the midst of a major offensive in southern Afghanistan.
Defence analysts said Mullah Baradar’s arrest had dealt a serious blow to Taliban which had expanded its influence to a large part of Afghanistan.
But some analysts warn that its impact would not change the course of war in Afghanistan. “One should be cautious in assessing its net impact,” said Maliha Lodhi, a former ambassador to Washington.

Three Al-Qaeda associates arrested in Karachi
Thursday, 18 Feb, 2010
KARACHI: Three men closely linked to Al-Qaeda were arrested during raids in Karachi’s Gulshan-i-Iqbal area.
Intelligence officials arrested the three from Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 17.
The names of two of the three were released: Kifayatullah and Abu Reyan Al Zarkazi also known as Abu Musa.
Abu Musa is a known associate of Osama Bin Laden and was notorious for firing down US drones in Waziristan.
He was also the commander of foreign combatants in Pakistan and prior to 9/11 travelled with Osama Bin Laden to Sudan.
The three were in Karachi to purchase mechanical parts from Sher Shah. Among other items purchased were washing machine timers — important components in time bombs. — DawnNews

Outsourcing intelligence By David Ignatius Wednesday, March 17, 2010
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/16/AR2010031602625.html?hpid=opinionsbox1
The headline read like something you might see in the conspiracy-minded Pakistani press: “Contractors Tied to Effort to Track and Kill Militants.” But the story appeared in Monday’s New York Times, and it highlighted some big problems that have developed in the murky area between military and intelligence activities.
The starting point for understanding this covert intrigue is that the U.S. military has long been unhappy about the quality of CIA intelligence in Afghanistan. The frustration surfaced publicly in January in a report by the top military intelligence officer in Kabul, Maj. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, that began: “Eight years into the war in Afghanistan, the U.S. intelligence community is only marginally relevant to the overall strategy.”
It’s a complicated tale, but it has some simple lessons: Under the heading of “information operations” or “force protection,” the military has launched intelligence activities that, were they conducted by the CIA, might require a presidential finding and notification of Congress. And by using contractors who operate “outside the wire” in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the military has gotten information that is sometimes better than what the CIA is offering.
A reconstruction of what happened, based on conversations with a half-dozen military and intelligence sources, raises two crucial issues: What new military procedures are needed to bring “information operations” and related activities under better control? And how can the CIA improve its own collection efforts so that private contractors aren’t brought in to fill the gaps?
The outsourced intelligence operation described by the Times began in 2008, with a push from the Pentagon’s Strategic Command, which oversees information operations. A Stratcom civilian named Michael D. Furlong began hiring former journalists to provide “ground truth,” with an initial budget of $22 million.
Another private intelligence effort was launched in November 2008, when a Boston firm called American International Security Corp. (AISC) was hired by the New York Times to free its reporter David Rohde, who had been kidnapped by the Taliban that month. The firm turned to Duane “Dewey” Clarridge, a former CIA officer who launched the agency’s counterterrorism center in 1986 and was an important figure in the Iran-contra affair. He set about building a network of informants who could help free Rohde.
Rohde escaped in June 2009, but Clarridge’s network continued to function. It currently has about 10 operatives who act as case officers, drawn from the United States, Britain, South Africa and other countries. These officers, in turn, run about 20 “principal agents” who are in contact with roughly 40 sources in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Clarridge had been in contact with U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa since March 2009 to share information and make sure that his private network wouldn’t clash with U.S. operatives. He is said to have briefed both Adm. Eric Olson, the head of SOCOM, and Lt. Gen. David Fridovich, the director of its center for special operations.
Clarridge’s contacts with the military deepened last July after he provided detailed intelligence about an Army soldier, Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl, who had been captured by the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan.
The two outsourced operations linked up in mid-2009, after Furlong met one of Clarridge’s operatives in Dubai. In October, the military awarded a contract for several million dollars to Clarridge and AISC through a series of subcontractors.
The CIA, meanwhile, was flummoxed by Clarridge’s freelancing. The new chief of station in Kabul protested last summer, and lawyers drew up new rules. Clarridge’s mission was described as “force protection,” a normal military activity in a war zone. His unclassified reports were fed into the J-3 operations center in Kabul, and then often classified and disseminated though intelligence channels.
Clarridge’s reports carried the rubric “Force Protection Atmospherics.” His sources were described as “cooperators” and his effort was termed “commercially gathered” data, rather than intelligence collection.
But these semantics didn’t resolve the tension between military activities, which fall under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, and CIA covert action, which is authorized under Title 50. This gray area has led Adm. Dennis Blair, the director of national intelligence, to argue privately that the country may need what could be described as a new “Title 60,” that blends the two in a coherent framework with proper controls.
The case of the clandestine contractors should prompt a serious debate about creating such a Title 60, and about the military’s rules for information operations. Meanwhile, Clarridge’s private network continues to provide fresh intelligence. His latest report from Paktia province was disseminated on Monday, the same day the New York Times article appeared.
