Deobandi commerical liberals and their new Barelvi = Deobandi binary

Ameer Muawiyah is one of the Deobandi terrorists arrested for the Lahore Blasts. But of course, when it comes to those who have killed 70,000 Pakistanis, its not cool to be specific.
On the other hand, those who are throwing slippers at helicopters have been deemed a greater threat to Pakistan and their Barelvi identity has to be stressed ad infinitum.
Its good to be a Deobandi in Pakistan – one can get away with murder and commercial liberals are always there to deflect criticism away in the same way that they will stress that Barelvis once received $36,000 in foreign funding from US or EU.
$36,000 is probably not even the daily expense budget for the thousands of Deobandi madrasses.
When it comes to Deobandis, commercial liberals will go out of their way to use vague and obfuscating terminology like “Islamists” but when it comes to Sunni Barelvis or Shias, their specific faith identities are excoriated for lesser acts of extremism.
At times, its difficult to tell the difference between DC (Deobandi Commerical) liberals and Jhangvi boys.
For decades, banned Deobandi organisations took out illegal rallies boasting how they killed thousands of Pakistanis. But our DC liberals were unmoved. For DC liberals, the only rallies that irritate them are Maulood and Ashura rallies taken out on legal permits once a year on public holidays.
70 people, mostly Christian women and children were killed on Easter Sunday at the Lahore blasts but the greater national outrage was reserved for the slaps meted out to misogynist Deobandi pop-star turned preacher, Junaid Jamshed. If a Shia had uttered even half the stuff against the personality that Junaid Jamshed did, their collective massacre would have been justified by some DC liberals and Uncle Tom shias.
Extremism must be condemned but not at the cost of loosing perspective and proportion. There cannot be different standards.
When DC liberals bash Barelvis for their extremism, there is a strong element of class and urban bias. Sunni Barelvis have long been mocked for their colourful and culture-based spiritual rituals at Sufi shrines because they are poor and/or rural based. It is easier to take on Barelvi extremism (post Malik Mumtaz – the cowardly murderer) because their protests are still throwing slippers and using profanities.
Deobandi extremists, on the other hand, are feted and freed by the Supreme Court. Malik Ishaq, whose death upset many DC liberals, used to get a standing reception from Supreme Court judges as well as tea and biscuits – even as he boasted about killing more people. Of course, his public admissions of murder and numerous eye-witness evidence was deemed “insufficient” by the Supreme Court that freed him to kill a few hundred more Shias.
Addendum: پیجا مستری correctly encapsulates this malaise of DC liberals and Uncle Tom Shias as ALPS (Acute Lack of Proportion Syndrome).
