Faiz Ahmed Faiz and other Marxists remained silent on Ahmadi persecution in Pakistan – by Abdul Nishapuri

faiz

Ahmadi persecution commenced in Pakistan in 1950s wheren radical Deobandi, Wahhabi and other Sunni Islamists led by outfits eg Ahrar, Khatm-e-Nabuwat, Jamaat-e-Islami organized a hateful campaign against the Ahmadiyya community.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz and other Marxists, socialists and atheists were pioneers of the Nazi style silence on Ahmadi persecution in Pakistan. No explanation comes to mind except selectivism in human rights and populism. Miseries of Ahmadis in 1950s and beyond were no less tragic than those of Kashmirs and Palestinians. Clearly Pakistani Marxists, socialists, atheists, secularists and liberals considered Ahmadiyya community as lesser human beings.

Were Faiz alive today, he would have perhaps admitted this fact: “My Marxist, secular and liberal comrades and I cried for Palestinians and Kashmiris but we kept silent on Ahmadi persecution within Pakistan. We are the pioneers of selectivism and populism in human rights and Nazi style silence on minority persecution and genocide in Pakistan.”
