The Siraj formula: Sacrifice Shias for ‘peace’ in Baluchistan- by Laleen Ahmad
The Jamat-e-Islami chief Mullah Siraj-ul-Haq has called upon the government to win “hearts and minds of the people of Baluchistan”. In a press conference yesterday (2 November 2014), he said that “issues related to the Baluchistan province” should be resolved. He also said that his arty would soon start a movement to impose the Shariah in Baluchistan (Read: http://www.dawn.com/news/1141833/siraj-urges-rulers-to-win-hearts-and-minds-of-baloch).
It is interesting to note that the talk of the reconciliation is coming from a man whose party has been directly or indirectly involved in genocide after genocide. In 1969-71, the Jamat was instrumental in killing hundreds of thousands of Bengali men and rape of around quarter of a million Bengali women. To this day, the Bengalis recall with horror the destruction the Jamat wrought on them.
It is the same Jamat-e-Islami which has been instrumental, along with the likes of Nawaz-led politicians and Deobandi outfits, in the killing of Ahmadi Muslims. It is the same Jamat which is the closest political ally of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat/Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (ASWJ/LeJ), which has killed over 25,000 Shias and 45,000 Sunni Sufis.
The question arises: Why would the Jamat want to negotiate with the Baluch activists who want to cede from Pakistan. Jamat’s ally ASWJ/LeJ has been killing Baluch nationalists and Shias under the supervision of Pakistan Army (FC). And why is the Jamat determined to impose the Shariah in Baluchistan when the ASWJ/LJ have been killing people in the name of Islam?
The Jamat is as much in favour of the Baluch as it was in favour of the Bengalis. Given the close, personal association of the Jamat with Mullah Ludhianvi of the ASWJ/LeJ, it seems that the Jamat has decided to work with the ASWJ/LeJ and complete the Deobandi mission of wiping the Shias from Bauchistan as the first step towards wiping them out from Pakistan. Jamat, the archetypal Islamofascist outfit, cannot be trusted to make peace with secular Baluch. The intention of Siraj is too obvious as it is too blatant and shameful
