Sunnis, Shias and Christians of Quetta speak against talks with Deobandi TTP-ASWJ terrorists – by Saleem Hazara

On 2 February 2014, the Majlis-e-Mahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Tehrik-e-Minhaj-ul-Quran (TMQ), Voice of Shuhuda-e-Pakistan (VSP) and representatives from Christian community in Quetta jointly held a public conference in the memory of the innocent victims of terrorism in Pakistan. The conference was attended by a large number of people from various religious and ethnic groups.

Leading religious and political figures from the country were present on the occasion. Allama Raja Nasir Abbas of MWM, Sahibzada Hamid Raza of SIC, Faisal Raza Abidi of VSP were themselves present while Allama Tahir-ul-Qadri of TMQ was represented by office bearers of his party as his huge picture displayed adjacent to the stage reminded the people of his full support. Local Christian leaders were also present in the programme.

The speakers voiced concern over the farce of negotiations to be undertaken with the Takfiri Deobandi Taliban (variously operating as TTP, ASWJ and LeJ) and forecasted that not only would the negotiations fail but they’d have ominous consequences for the country. They expressed deep suspicion over government commitments to tackle terrorism.

The gathering of thousands of Sunnis, Shias and Christians warned that if the federal and provincial governments led by PML-N didn’t show serious commitment and resolve in tackling terrorism by arresting and putting to justice the takfiri Deobandi terrorists of ASWJ/Sipah-e-Sahaba/Lashkar-e-Jhangvi/Taliban, then the oppressed people of Pakistan shall march to Islamabad. The speakers said that Shias, Sunni Barelvis, Christians, Ahmadis, Hindu and other religious groups are being killed by takfiris while the government sits and watch. They warned that it couldn’t and wouldn’t continue like and the oppressed religious groups shall not continue to be sitting ducks.

It is however shameful that such a large public gathering, in severe cold and rain, that was addressed and attended by leading Shia and Sunni scholars and political leaders was largely ignored by the Pakistani media. The media once again proved that it is part of the jihad industry and shall continue to ignore the voice of the oppressed Shias, Sunnis, Christians and other religious groups who are being killed by Deobandi terrorists.
