I can not recall the name of that Christian priest who composed the following poem in Nazi Germany (perhaps in German language?). Though, unfortunately, I cann’t recall the words as the lines sequence right now, but I reproduce the gist in English:
-First they targetted parliamentarians. I remained silent as I was not an M.P
-Then they fell upon Jews & I remained quiet because I was a Christian.
-Then they came upon Communists & I remained silent because I was not a communist.
-Then they fell upoon trade unionists & I kept quiet as I was not a Trade Unionist.
-Then they targetted Protestents & I remained silent as I was a Roman Cathoiic.
– Finally they fell upon me & by that time no one remained to speak out.
