Amendment in Political Parties Order 2002 for radical changes in electoral politics
Palwasha Zai Khan, a member of the PPP Human Rights Committee and also a member of the NA Foreign Affair Committee moved a private bill, seeking amendment to the Political Parties Order, 2002 to enable the middle class to participate in electoral politics.
The proposed amendment takes note of the fact that the middle class has since long been excluded from electoral politics. The amendment, if approved, would make it binding upon political parties to award at least 25 percent of their tickets of national and provincial assemblies to people from the middle class. The bill has been referred to the House committee concerned for due consideration. Let us hope that elites sitting in the NA would not undermine the content and aims of the proposed amendment.
