Protest outside Saudi Consulate in Los Angeles – by Ali Taj

Just came back from protesting outside Saudi Consulate in Los Angeles. It was a small protest comprising my 8 year old son, by 12 year old niece, my loving wife and my brother. I thank the Almighty for such a loving and supporting family. Just  five of us,  caused so much of commotion at the Saudi Arabian consulate, that they had to call the police to remove us.

The Saudi Consulate is indeed mighty, it is built like castle art decor style and painted green and Silver. It has giant green metal doors that seem very well armored. It has cameras and security systems galore. It gives a clear impression of a fortress.

What was a family of five  doing that caused such a mighty uproar at the mighty Saudi Consulate? We were demanding the release of Shaikh Nimr, the Saudi dissident shot in the leg and taken to jail, release of a frail old man who maybe severely injured. We were not shouting. We were not insulting or abusing anyone. We were simply submitting a polite petition to the King of Saudi Arabia, to respect the universal declaration of human rights and let this man go.

We just wanted to respectfully present this petition to the Saudi consulate, addressed to the King of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudis, however, showed their true colors, they were having none of it. They sent out two security teams telling us to go away.  We explained to them we were on city property exercising our First Amendment right to protest, we were not blocking anyone’s way and we were not causing a nuisance.  Next two LAPD officers showed up, they were very nice and told us of the Form we needed to fill out to protest next time. So that is exactly what we are going to do. The officers gave us their cards and all of us went peacefully on our way. They officers were also kind enough to make sure that the Saudis formally accepted our petition in exchange for (the 5 of us) leaving today.

All of this happened in less than half an hour before our supporters had a chance to even join us. While we were there four people stopped by to give us their emails, they wanted to part of future protests. We also had a Saudi curse at us but that was his problem.

Lastly I want to extend a special thank you my very good friend Faqir-e-Pakistan who was kind enough to film us.

World Shia Forum Condemns the brutal shooting and arrest of Shaikh Nimr

‎”If any one disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge Hath come to thee, say: “Come! let us gather together,- our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves: Then let us earnestly pray, and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie!”

“Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the possessors of the elephant?Did He not make their treacherous plan go astray? And He sent against them Flights of Birds, Casting against them stones of baked clay, So He rendered them like straw eaten up?”
