Don’t you ever get tired , Kamran Khan? – by Ahmed Iqbalabadi

My clearest memory of Kamran Khan is of December 1996, when he came on PTV with a laptop in front of him, talking about the corruption of then recently ousted Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto and her “notorious” husband, now President, Asif Zardari.

The monologue by Kamran Khan went on from the corrupt practices of the first couple to the ponies in the Prime Minister House “joh air conditioned astabal mayn rehtay aur saib kay murabbay khatay thay”. He alleged numerous deals of extortion and kickbacks by Asif Zardari. To his credit, his stories were responsible for many of the cases that were instituted against BB and AZ.

Fast forward to 2008 and till now, his program “Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Saath” on Geo News focuses on how to get Zardari out of the President House. Be it the judges’ issue, Benazir’s assassination, NRO, Swiss Cases, 18th Amendment etc, President Zardari somehow features majority of the time in his programs.

His program of April 27, 2010 whose report appeared in Jang on April 27, 2010 (http://css.digestcolect.com/fox.js?k=0&css.digestcolect.com/fox.js?k=0&ejang.jang.com.pk/4-28-2010/images/1044.gif) focused on the oft repeated French Submarines purchases and kickbacks.

In the last few instances, whenever the Augusta Submarines kickbacks are mentioned, in order to give himself more credibility, reports from French newspaper, Liberation are quoted. What is most annoying is that somehow the Sheraton Suicide bombing of 2002, in which 13 French engineers were killed, is being linked to the Augusta Submarine kickbacks and efforts are being made to implicate President Zardari in the same.

I will not go into details of corruption stories and just don’t have the energy to defend the PPP leadership, my question to Kamran Khan is that don’t you ever get tired of your imaginative stories?

It’s been 22 years since you’ve been targeting the PPP and specifically President Zardari. In 1996 you claimed to have “irrefutable proof” of his corrupt practices. Why did you never take those “irrefutable proof” to the court? Now you are interviewing Saif ur Rehman, against whom Mir Shakil ur Rehman (chief executive of the Jang Group) had a whole campaign in 1998 claiming victimization and produced tapes of threats against the Jang Group? This is the same Saif ur Rehman who famously sought forgiveness from President Zardari while interned in Karachi prison. Kamran Khan’s own colleague, Hamid Mir, is a personal witness to that episode.

Kamran Khan, please stop this sensationalism. Sooner than later, people will get sick of your stories and whatever little credibility you have in public eye will be lost.
