The Atlantic’s Petty Mudslinging against Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
posted by Naseem Chaudhary | January 19, 2017 | In Original ArticlesBy publishing “The GOP’s Favourite Democrat Goes to Syria”, The Atlantic does both itself and the cause of liberal progressiveness, a major disservice. The article is rife with petty digs, crucial omissions and weak analogies. In its desperation to slander an original voice of dissent, this poorly conceived attack job is oblivious to the obvious ironic rejoinder. This article is also a disservice to the Democrat party and its growing progressive shift as it fails to rise above rehashing stale DNC propaganda and shilling for the establishment.
Lets start with the oblique personal attacks on Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. Using the selective lens of LGBT rights and Republican affiliations of Rep. Gabbard’s father seems pretty pathetic.
Is the writer oblivious to the irony that the DNC establishment’s choice of presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton was herself a Goldwater girl and publically opposed LGBT rights till 2013 before the typically opportunist and populist driven flip flop!
The article’s despicable attacks on Rep. Gabbard’s Hindu faith must be condemned. Once again, the irony of using terms like “extreme” to describe Gabbard’s Hindu beliefs while omitting the fact that the Democratic leadership of both President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Saudi Arabia is astounding!
Saudi Arabia promotes and finances the global spread of Salafism – the most extreme and sectarian version of the Islamic faith. It also finances terrorist groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda that have attacked the US homeland on multiple occasions. However, the Atlantic article chooses to focus its ire on Congresswoman Tulsi for drafting anti-ISIS legislation. The article conveniently omits that these “rebel groups” are just different avatars of Al Qaeda. It also conveniently fails to mention that former Senator, First Lady and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton knew that “Western allies” such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar were supporting ISIS and Al Qaeda.
“The Obama administration and its Western allies have called for Assad’s ouster, and have backed some rebels groups opposed to him in the more than five-year civil war that has spawned a humanitarian disaster. President-elect Trump says the U.S. should focus on the real enemy: ISIS, which is one of many groups fighting Assad. Gabbard holds that view, as well. She recently introduced the Stop Arming Terrorists Act, which would make it unlawful for the U.S. government to support groups allied with and supporting terrorist organizations, some of which are fighting Assad. Still, her visit to Syria, in theory, may constitute a violation of the Logan Act, which prohibits unauthorized individuals from contacting a foreign government that’s engaged in a dispute with the U.S. It’s worth pointing out, however, that no one has ever been prosecuted for alleged violations of the act.”
The nefarious tactic of misrepresenting Al Qaeda factions as “rebels” is a weak attempt to mask their horrific beliefs; beliefs which publicly advocate the genocide of Non-Salafist sects and religions from Syria.
The core message of this article is simply a weak exercise of mudslinging against someone who does not toe the establishment line on Syria. After being exposed for their corruption and nepotism in fixing the Democratic primaries in favour Hillary Clinton, the establishmentarian candidate, the DNC has no moral stature to lecture Congresswoman Gabbard; much less try and “control her”
