SOS for Arsalan Iftikhar Chaudhry: Hamid Mir in Action – by Ahsan Shah

“Arsalan Iftikhar is totally innocent. All the evidence against him are Fake. They are cooked by the Government and the Secret Agencies mutually to bring Mr CJ under Pressure”, writes Hamid Mir in his 26 July column in daily Jang.

This is common knowledge that the usual suspects have been waging a “Jihad” against the PPP Government (rather I would say any elected civilian government) since General Zia’s regime. In the last four and half years, a coalition of the Establishment, Media (both right-wing dominated Urdu media and pseudo-liberal dominated English media), and their allies headed by CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry have been trying to derail the Zardari led PPP Government.

Suddenly such invisible hands and their allies are being presented as our heroes, the saviours of Pakistan.

Hamid Mir points towards a conspiracy to defame the CJ in the guise of allegations against Arsalan Iftikhar (CJ’s son). Based on Hamid Mir’s theory, conspiracy against Arsalan is in fact a tactic by the military and the civilian government to pressurize CJ Chaudhry to refrain from paying attention to the Balochistan crisis. What a dishonest theory!

Critical readers as well as Baloch activists understand that CJ Chaudhry’s statements on Balochistan are nothing but an eyewash, a false hope with little impact on the actual Kill & Dump policy which is being pursued by Pakistan’s security agencies in that province.

Hamid Mir treats this as a conspiracy to defame CJ Chaudhry.

The word “defamation” in my knowledge is used for a person having good or at least an “acceptable” repute.

My Lord, who is NOT ready to accept me as a “Loyal” to Pakistan on the basis that I have taken an oath for being a responsible British citizen. Let’s see what he himself did with his own “oaths” he took as a judge.

In April 199, he was appointed as Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, and took an oath to defend the Constitution under any conditions. In January 2000, when four judges resigned as a protest against General Musharaf’s coup, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry tore his oath into pieces, said “Yes Boss” to the dictator and took oath as a “PCO Judge”, assuring General Musharaf of unparalleled support to his unconstitutional government.

In 2005, General Musharaf appointed him as Chief “Justice” of Pakistan for rendering commendable services to his dictatorship.

The story took a new turn when Musharaf charged him of corruption, nepotism and misbehaviour with judges and senior advocates. He was suspended in 2007 and was later put into a house arrest by Musharraf and his crony generals, which was finished by none other than Prime Minister Yussuf Reza Gillani as the very first order by the newly elected government.

Mr CJ then 3rd time violated his “oath” running a full-fledged political movement against General Musharaf, and later against the very party which liberated him from house arrest?

How ironic is it that a person who 3 times violated his “oath” is questioning the loyalty of millions of overseas Pakistanis to be a parliamentarian?

“Hazrat” e Arslan (‘famous’ son of CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry) got a C Grade in the Intermediate examination.

He got admission in Bolan Medical College Quetta on Chief Minister’s quota.

In June 2005, he was appointed as a Medical Officer. Just within 26 days, “Dad” got him appointed as a Section Officer in the Health Department.

After a few months, he left the services as a doctor and was appointed as Assistant Director FIA. Within a year, he was promoted to Deputy Director.

All these facts are present in Supreme Judicial Council and Arslan later had to resign for his illegal appointments. The story has been published in Express 7 June 2012.

Recently a Property Tycoon (Malik Riaz) exposed Arslan’s black mailing and corruption worth 90 Crore. Instead of treating the case according to Pakistani law, CJ Chaudhry dramatized it and resorted to taking cover of the holy Quran to prove his impartiality.

“Now the decision would be in light of the Quran” Said the CJ.

And then the “Quranic Decision” was announced by the newly born Caliph that a “Tauheen e Adalat” (Contempt of Court) case be filed against the complainant. While Arslan was “expelled” from his father’s house and shifted to Parliament Lodges along with with 30 gunmen with whom he drives freely on the roads of Islamabad, many times blocking the roads.

Asma Jehangir, a senior lawyer, has rightly said that “Arslan is the Son of Mr Iftikhar Chaudhry and NOT the Son of Supreme Court. How does an allegation on Arslan become a case of Contempt of Court”?

I would say to Mr Hamid Mir and the other “Media War Lords”, the story of “the Father and the Son” is too ugly to be advocated.

Please do not further pollute your pen and your profession devil’s advocacy
