The bomber drove a car laden with about 40 kg of explosives intending to hit a Shia mosque at prayers time, but finding the place heavily guarded, detonated the bomb in a nearby parking lot.

At the time of the blast, people were returning home after Eid prayers. The explosion was so powerful that it destroyed 10 cars and several nearby houses, Capital City Police Officer Quetta Ahsan Mahboob said adding it was a suicide attack.

While the death toll is 11 at present, authorities fear a rise in the number of casualties and have declared an emergency at the civil hospital after the incident.

“Remains of a badly mutilated body were found in the debris of the bomber’s car,” police said.

They said the man was not wearing explosives on his body but had planted them in the car and detonated it when he could not go beyond the parking lot.

Television footage showed thick black smoke rising from the area as people ran helter-skelter. There was no immediate of claim of responsibility for the attack but Quetta houses a large number of Taliban [ Images ] cadres who are known for their anti-Shiite stance.

The Shiite community of Quetta has announced that it will observe seven days of mourning to condemn the attack.

Members of the Shiite community also gathered and staged a protest at the site of the blast where they chanted slogans against the government.

The blast came as the country was celebrating three-day holiday for Eid-ul Fitr to mark the ending of the fasting month of Ramadan

As an Indian,Hindu I share your agony for persecution of Shia in Pakistan and condemn the majority fascism against the minority. But I have some serious apprehensions against your strategy to fight Wahabi-ISI fitna. As per your above write up that this Wahabi Fitna is just ten year old that is sponsored by Saudi Arabia but how the persecuted Hindu minority which is a defenseless minority in Muslim majority Pakistan can gather courage to join the alliance as they are victim of a theocratic State created by a Shia Muslim Jinnah. It is only a temporary phase that Shia are victims of sectarian violence but how can Pakistani Hindus join the alliance when they are assign the status of Zimmi in an Islamic Republic.

I have read on LUBP months back another strategy to cop up with sectarian violence in Pakistan by propagating the message of a learned Sunni Muslim scholar,Mulana Ishq.I saw that video clip on LUBP in which Mulana Ishq preached that Sunnis and Shia may have differences but after all they both are lovers of Prophet. This scholar shows references from books and stress that Shia-Sunni hatred must be stopped but for Hindus of Pakistan he said in another video clip confirming the ‘Two Nation Theory ‘that they have no right to propagate their religion in Pakistan. The learned scholar quote that Hindus in Pakistan are Zimmis(Zimmi means whose Zamanat had been granted by Allah) have the right to follow their faith with in the premise of their home but have no right to propagate their religion publicly. I guess the Pakistani Hindus as a terrorized minority in a Muslim Majority country can not dare to join the alliance with Shia Muslims to condemn the ideological tyranny called Wahabi fitna. Chances are once the Sunnis and Shia come down to understanding and get united as they were united under the great Shia Muslim Leader Jinnah may be punished by the Sunni-Shia alliance for using the sectarian differences as a political opportunity to assert their right as equal citizen.

The persecution of Muslim minority sects in Sunni Majority Pakistan and persecution of Non Muslim minorities are different issues. Despite the fact that Muslim minority sects are victim of sectarian violence but by and large they also endorse the theocratic polity and not Secularism.

Saving the minority had been the mantra of last century and Pakistan is the creation of this mantra only. But this mantra had failed to save the minority-majority problem.

I am a supporter of Secularism but not a fan of kind of secularism that had been abused by left wing or left oriented Congress Party in India or in Europe where Secularism means only majority baiting. In West Secularism means Christianity baiting and in India it is Hindu baiting. If this kind of Secularism is your goal then your strategy of making an alliance of persecuted minorities may be an option but I am skeptical of it.

I guess the identity politics of minority and majority is harmful in making a peaceful society. The only option is to achieve the aim of Secularism.By Secularism I mean the real secularism that was envisioned by European Thinkers of Enlightenment.Infect left had abused and misused Secularism in the name of Social Democracy in Europe, India and Pakistan.True Secularism is what Jinnah said,”State has no business to do with religion”.
