Oil politics: Unocol-Chevron employee Tariq Fatemi is Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs
Union Oil Company of California, Unocol, is known for the dubious role it played in Afghanistan before and after 9/11.
On August 10, 2005, Unocal merged with Chevron Corporation, one of the world’s “supermajor” oil companies (also known as “Big Oil”). While Deobandi Taliban rulers of Kabul were busy in slaughtering moderate Sunnis, Shias, Tajiks, Hazaras etc, Unocol-Chevron was busy in lucrative business deals with the Deobandi Taliban terrorists, looking at big oil interests in the Caspian Basin. Eventually, Wahhabi terrorists of Al Qaeda (harbored by Deobandi Taliban terrorist of Afghanistan) attacked the United Sates on 9/11, and thus the negotiations with the Taliban for a UNOCOL pipeline fell through.
It is a known fact that right from Afghanistan to Iraq, US-led wars were primarily motivated by its pursuit for oil. Oil corporations eg Unocol-Chevron are known to have great influence on the US-foreign policy, including currently sustained drone attacks on Wahhabi Deobandi militants hideouts in Pakistan’s tribal areas.
Now it has been revealed that Tariq Fatemi, Pakistan’s PM Nawaz Sharif’s advisor on Foreign Affairs, is still working for the oil and gas giant Unocol. He is accused of doing two job as the PM’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs as well as at Unicol-Chevron. According to media reports he is on leave from Unocol and has not resigned. Also, this may cause a conflict of interest. Unocol is notorious for trying to promote Turkemanistan-Afghanistan pipeline, and in the process flirting with Taliban in its heydays. This also brings his influence on policies, particularly the Iran gas pipeline in conflict. How could we trust somebody for an independent policy when he was on the payroll of a dubious firm. The issue is bound to come up for discussion in the Parliament soon, where, by the way, he has got his wife nominated as MNA on women quota.
In essence:
– Nawaz Sharif’s foreign policy is influenced and shaped by US-based Oil Corporations;
– Nawaz Sharif government is likely to dump the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline to promote Unocol and other USA’s interests in the region;
– Nawaz Sharif continues to pretend as anti-drone and anti-NATO presence in Afghanistan while in practice he has sold Pakistan’s interests to greedy Oil Conglomerates;
– Despite his tall claims of transparency and integrity, Nawaz Sharif and his aides remain corrupt and opaque in governance.
So Tariq Fatmi is a New World Order guy.
There is no doubt that Nawaz Sharif became PM due to so called NRO-2. The transcript is from USA, guaranteed by Saudi Arabia and execution by the army & partially supported by the judiciary of Pakistan. I fully agree with the writer that MNS will tow the line of his masters and it is already visible. Another dual national Shujaat Azeem is the adviser for aviation. As per today’s news in “Dawn” the government promised a transparent aviation policy. They think that people of Pakistan are fools but I think they will not be able to stay in power for 2 – 3 years. How long they can continue like this?
I personally know Mr. Tariq Fatemi since 1965. He is an intelligent, sincere, hardworking and a good Pakistani.
As an Advisor to the Government of Pakistan, he will be a valuable official for Pakistan.
I was told about this story only this morning. All I can say is that there is not a shred of truth to it. It is not only false but malicious. I have never ever, been associated with either of these two multi-nationals, or any non-Pakistani entity.
I feel sad and disappointed that the author should have written this piece without bothering to check with me. After all, I am living in Islamabad and would have happily responded to her queries.
That is a great tip especially to those new to the blogosphere.
Brief but very precise info… Thank you for sharing this one.
