My enemy, my friend, my neighborer; let’s celebrate Disarmament Week, 24-30 October
“The United Nations stands today at a new Ground Zero — a “ground zero” for global disarmament, no longer a place of dread but of hope. Those who stand with us share the vision of a nuclear-free world. If ever there were a time for the world’s people to demand change, to demand action beyond the cautious half measures of the past, it is now.”
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Many people believe that the world would be a more peaceful place if there were few weapons. I will also like add that United Nation is successfully working from past many years to reduce the nuclear weapons all over the world. After this introduction about Disarmament, let’s move of to Disarmament week. Disarmament week was founded by United Nation in year 1978 with purpose of controlling, reducing, limiting and abolishing of weapons. This week is held every year on 24 October- 30 October. This is an important occasion to raise awareness in the public and Governments, so that we can recognize disarmament as a key in creating a peaceful and sustainable world. The purpose of celebrating this week is to educate the people that how much peaceful this world is without weapons. Another purpose behind this is to organize a event where all states are invited from all over the world and information are given to them like danger of the arms race, need of reducing weapons, how does it effects environment and increasing public understanding of the urgent task of Disarmament. In 1995, it invites the Governments and NGOs to take part in Disarmament week. It also invited the General Secretary to promote and making a good understanding between the public of Disarmament problems and aims of the week. In Disarmament week, an important focus is given to convince the nations and making understanding between them for removing the mass destruction weapons like nuclear arms. Weapons are divided here in two major categories one among them is weapons of mass destruction that are nuclear, biological and chemical weapon, another category is of general weapons or small arms. Here I also want to add that most of the time of Disarmament is spent trying on halt all nuclear weapon making. United Nation also achieves few historical achievements in this Disarmament week for both weapons of mass destruction and conventional weapons. But here, I also want to add that still there are more than 30000 to 50000 nuclear warheads which are enough to destroy our beautiful world.
Why? Because around 2,000 people die each day (750,000 each year) as a result of armed conflict and gun violence worldwide. Because children are still maimed by landmines and cluster bombs, and land is still not safe for communities to use for farming or schools. Because all humanity is threatened by the proliferation of nuclear weapons, especially if obtained by terrorists.
One of the greatest human rights violations is the crime against humanity[war]. A war brings suffering and devastation, irrespective of the cause. The fundamental rights of an individual is assaulted during a war.Torture, capture, prisoners of war, slavery, etc. are all types of human rights violations due to war. Genocide is one of the biggest human rights violations. Genocides can occur due to racial enmity, religious wars, or singling out an ethnic group.
India-Pakistan Wars name given to the series of conflicts between India and Pakistan since 1947, when the Indian subcontinent was partitioned and the two countries became independent of Great Britain. The most violent outbreaks came in 1947-48, 1965, and 1971. The roots of the conflicts lie in the hostility between Hindus and Muslims and, initially, in the disposition of self-governing princely states.
Military spending in this region is the highest, with each respective government gearing towards armageddon as the years go by. There seems to be a bottomless pocket for billions spent to upgrade and maintain a costly military ready to spring into combat in an instant. It looks as if finance is never a problem for both of this once united countries. Their spending now borders on the absurd as each of them throw away bigger and bigger budget on each passing year showing to the other side its military might.
