After misrepresenting politics, Jang Group turns to sports! – Arbab Zaheer

The headline says it all: “Liaquat Ali bhee bahar; Tamghay kee umeedain dum tornay lageen”. The sub headline is even funnier “Pakistani athletes aik aik kar kay bahar ho rahay hayn, Ethiopia jaisay mulk nay bhee tamgha jeet liya!” To translate, it means “Liaquat Ali out too; Medal hopes being dashed” while the sub-headline would translate into “Pakistani athletes losing out one after the other; Even a country like Ethiopia has won a medal”. Being a sports follower and aware of the mindlessness of the War Group, I had to write something. For the information of Jang’s sports desk incharge, Ethiopia is a power house in the long distance running like marathon, 10000 meters, 5000 meters and 3000 meters steeplechase. For anyone’s information, after participating in 11 Olympic Games starting from 1956, Ethiopia has won 18 gold, 6 silver and 14 bronze medals, while at the ongoing Olympics, they have already won 1 gold and 1 bronze medal, taking their tally to 40!!!

Here’s a tally of their medals:

Games Gold Silver Bronze Total
1956 Melbourne 0 0 0 0
1960 Rome 1 0 0 1
1964 Tokyo 1 0 0 1
1968 Mexico City 1 1 0 2
1972 Munich 0 0 2 2
1976 Montreal did not participate
1980 Moscow 2 0 2 4
1984 Los Angeles did not participate
1988 Seoul did not participate
1992 Barcelona 1 0 2 3
1996 Atlanta 2 0 1 3
2000 Sydney 4 1 3 8
2004 Athens 2 3 2 7
2008 Beijing 4 1 2 7
Total 18 6 14 38

On the other hand, us proud and ghairatmand Pakistanis have won 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals in all, with the last one in 1992 at Barcelona when our hockey team won a bronze medal! Other than our hockey team, we have won a bronze medal each in wrestling and boxing!

One has to ask the Jang newspaper to do a fact check before splashing such kind of headlines! But why will they fact check. After all, they want war!
