This is how Pakistan army ruined Pakistan Railways

پاکستان کے ریلوے کے وفاقی وزیر حاجی غلام احمد بلور نے کہا ہے کہ ریلوے کا بیڑہ غرق کرنے میں فوج کے ٹرانسپورٹ کے ادارے نیشنل لاجسٹک سیل یعنی ‘این ایل سی’ کا بڑا ہاتھ ہے۔
بی بی سی کے ساتھ انٹرویو میں انہوں نے کہا کہ پہلے یہ طے تھا کہ اڑسٹھ فیصد کارگو ریلوے اٹھاتی تھی اور اب صرف اٹھائیس فیصد رہ گیا ہے۔
عوامی نیشنل پارٹی کے سرکردہ رہنما اور وفاقی وزیر نے کہا کہ وزارت دفاع ریلوے کی ڈیفالٹر ہے اور کئی شہروں میں ریلوے کی زمین فوج کے پاس ہے۔ ان کے مطابق سیالکوٹ میں چار سو ایکڑ سے زائد زمین فوج کے زیر استعمال ہے۔ لیکن انہوں نے اس تاثر کو رد کیا کہ فوج دفاعی مقصد کے لیے ریلوے کی زمین حاصل کرکے تجارتی مقاصد کے لیے استعمال نہیں کرتی۔ ان کے بقول اگر ایسا ہے تو وہ ان کے علم میں نہیں ہے۔
۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ عدلیہ یا نیب سابق جرنیل (لیفٹیننٹ جنرل جاوید اشرف قاضی) کے دور میں چین سے خریدی گئی انسٹھ انجنوں کے معاملےکی جانچ کرے؟ ‘اس وقت ایک جرنیل وزیر دوسرا سیکریٹری اور تیسرا جنرل مینیجر تھے۔۔ یہ میرا کام نہیں کہ میں ان کے خلاف شکایت کروں’۔

One suggestion would be that the NLC should confine its activities to the defence field, leaving commercial inland and domestic cargo for Pakistan Railways to transport. If this is not done, there could be even worse times for the railways.

Though people blame the present PPP-ANP government for shutting down of railways, the actual destroyer of Railways were General Zia-ul-Haq and his crony generals, who created the NLC to take away market share of freight trains and diversion of capital funds from Railways to corrupt military generals and organization. General Musharaf hammered the last nail in the coffin of Railways by importing defective rolling stock from China and made drastic organizational changes which killed the once profitable orgnaization until Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s government, giving employments to thousands every year and cheap transportation to masses poor and middle class people. It is sad that this national institution is about to be shutdown unless miracle happens and revive this dead organization.

The National Logistic Cell (NLC) – the logistics arm of the army – will purchase 10 reconditioned locomotives, costing $11.2 million, from Korean Rail (KORAIL) for freight operations. An agreement to this affect was signed here on Friday by Director General of the NLC, Major General Junaid Rehmat, and KORAIL Vice President Paeng Jung Goang.

I’m sorry but Pakistan Railways has been the most INEFFICIENT, CORRUPT, MISMANAGED, and WHITE ELEPHANT department in all of Pakistan for last many decades.
Pakistan Railways ruined Pakistan Railways. Blaming Army for this is the height of absurdity.

PA ruined Pak Railways?! Another piece of trash journalism blaming the army for everything bad going on! I suggest the author actually do some real fact finding and realise what everyone else know that it is the idiot politicians in power that have destroyed the Railways just like everything else in Pakistan!
