The un-sharif Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court – by Fawad Manzoor
Cat is out of bag. It has always been said that Khwaja Sharif (Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court) is the “bookie” from Raiwind. He himself admitted in his books that he (and his sons) took money from Shahbaz Sharif in London. There were a lot of tales about his affiliation with Sharif brothers but it was denied by his chamchas ,especially the (so called), “unsung heroes of the lawyers’ movement”.
My question and bold challenge to any self proclaimed heroes of the Lawyers’ Movement (which was paid by Nawaz Sharif and directed by the right wing media) is to discuss the merits of what you did, after almost one year of putting these corrupt and politically biased judges back on the benches.
I had the chance to speak to two of the unsung heroes and both admitted that CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry’s advisers are putting him on wrong track. This is a lame excuse. You get bad advice and succumb to the bad advice only if you have in your instincts to be a bad person, otherwise get rid of bad advisers.
Is this is what you fought for? Who needs army to bring governments down while we have these corrupt people on the benches to decide the fate of the government.
Judiciary in Pakistan has always conspired against the democracy. The entire history of Pakistan is witness that when the army is in power, judges side with the generals, they give them relaxation under constitution, they give time to amend constitution, they allow them to insert illegal articles in the constitution. And when democratic government comes to power all of a sudden they become honest and straightforward. Where was your “Objectives Resolution” when these judges decided the Zafar Ali Shah case (May 2000).
Current judges are, without doubt not angels with corruption being rampant amongst most of them and, a leftover of the Musharraf regime. Musharraf along with the judges who took oath on PCO multiple times should be tried under the Article 6 of Pakistan’s Constitution for treason and be hanged.
Current right wing judges in the Supreme Court and also in the Lahore High Court just keep admitting ridiculous cases against government where as millions of cases of poor people are still pending. CJ of LHC is acting like a spokesperson of the Punjab Government. I never thought and believed a sitting judge will be bold enough (or stupid enough) to say something like this in public unless and until he is deeply involved in the process.
Khwaja Sharif (CJ of LHC) is proving himself to be a jester well suited to be in the Sharif’s Raiwind palace. Mr Khwaja Sharif, you are a judge with your feet almost in the grave at this age so please no need to show biased opinions. Your judgments as a judge will be judged on the day of Qayamat, what will you say “I like Sharif brothers that is why I sided with them”?
I don’t trust and believe that you can ever give an unbiased decision in political matters. I will also suggest the lawyers in political cases to resist the benches in which CJ LHC is presiding.
A note to unsung heroes of lawyers’ movement and the Pakistani Taliban Union of Journalists (PTUJ, including Ahmed Noorani, Ansar Abbasi, Dr. Shahid Masood and Shaheen Sehbai, Hamid Mir etc): Is this biased filth you have been trying to defend? Is this what you call honesty of a judge? The judge who himself admitted to taking envelope (full of money), how could you think he will be honest and impartial?
Mr. Khawaja Sharif is in Raiwind every Sunday for a breakfast with Sharifs, has anybody questioned it? We got many lawyers especially SM Zafar saying that the telephone call from PM Gilani to CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry is not a good precedence as there are many cases of government pending in the court. Will Mr. S.M. Zafar speak up now?
Forget PTUJ! They are the “defenders” no matter what.
As far as unsung heros are concerned
