19 June 2010: PML-N MPA fined for wasting court time. LAHORE: An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court (LHC), comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial, on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly (MPA) Rohail Asghar for wasting the court’s time. The MNA had moved an application to re-summon the Higher Education Commission (HEC) deputy director to record his evidence in an election petition, but the judge dismissed it and imposed a fine on him. A local commission had already recorded the complete evidence from both sides. The tribunal will now resume the hearing next week. The judge imposed the fine while hearing an election petition of Humayun Akhtar of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), who had lost the election against Rohail from NA-119 (Lahore). The petitioner sought Rohail’s disqualification on the basis of possessing a fake BA degree. Humayun alleged that the MNA obtained a graduation degree from a university that was not recognised by the HEC. (Source)
16 June 2010: SC orders forgery case against PML-N MPA. ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the appeal filed by the PML-N’s MPA from Sargodha, Rizwan Gill, against his disqualification from contesting polls after his BA degree was found to be fake. A three-member bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday, was hearing the appeal of Rizwan Gill. The court upheld the decision of the Election Tribunal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) and dismissed the appeal of Gill with cost and ordered filing a criminal case against him for forgery. (Source)

LAHORE: Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday disqualified Syed Javed Hassnain, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member of the National Assembly (MNA), from Sargodha for having a fake madrassa degree. The judge directed the chief election commissioner to hold fresh election for the seat within 60 days. (Source)
