Can you hear the Himalayan Mountains? – by Amjad Rashid

Today is 27th March 2010 or it may by 28th of March when this article will be read by you. I see that some people are enjoying the spring season and its festivals. Some are planning their Summers and young people especially students are preparing for their examinations which will be held in April. Some are planning to celebrate the April Fool.

When I imagine these dates in 1979, then sometimes I tend to loathe them. It was the biggest April Fool that was played with the middle class and lower class of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. These were the most difficult days for Pakistani nation after August + September days of 1947 and the year 1971. The spring season of 1979 was death season for the Pakistani, Islamic and 3rd World politics.

My leader Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto …………………..!!!!

What would be the condition of him in those days? What would be he thinking about in those days, in the last dates of March and the first three days of April?

Spring always brings the message of prosperity and joy in routine, but was the routine of Spring 1979 same??? Flowers use to dance in spring but did flowers forget to dance in Spring 1979?

Whenever I imagine, I think… that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto must be thinking in those days about his total life…. His struggle in his whole life!!!! The whole film of his life from his childhood till those days must be played in his mind with the speed of a bullet!!!

He must have thought that what was his fault? Was he criminal? Was he evil? His fault, his criminality and his evil was only that he raised the voice of the poor and he took the politics of Pakistan out from the rich courts and put it into the poor streets of Pakistan.

He did the politics of the poor and common man of Pakistan. He lifted the poor man from bare soil and put him on the chair with the rich. This was his biggest crime!!!

That’s why he said in his last days in prison: “It was my fault that I tried the peaceful compromise between the two classes of Pakistan, the rich and the poor.”

I can only imagine how these days were spent by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in prison! This must be the hardest time on him as well as the poor. These days always remind me the sorrows of 1979. These days always remind me the sad spring of 1979. These days always remind that sometimes Springs turns into Autumn. These days remind that sometimes Spring never brings joys and happiness but it brings the ultimate sorrows in life.

Can you hear Himalayas? Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto said in his last days before his death sentence: “You people are sentencing me to death; you are trying to oppress my voice and voice of the poor. But know it that my grave will lead and govern Pakistan. The Great Himalayans will weep over my death for thousands of years.”

If I could see the Great Himalayans, I could see it weeping and weeping. It mourns in grief on these days and remembers these days in 1979.
