RIP Naseer Kavi (author of ‘tum kitnay Bhutto maro gey’)
The LUBP team is deeply saddened to hear the news of Naseer Kavi’s death. We urge the PPP office bearers and government officials to provide every possible moral and financial (if needed) assistance to Mr. Kavi’s family. We also recommend that Mr. Kavi’s name be considered for a posthumous award in recognition of his services to the people of Pakistan.

Ailing poet forgotten by ‘the party`
LAHORE, Sept 21: It was the most memorable day in the life of Naseer Kavi when in a public meeting Benazir Bhutto recited his verses ‘Yeh Bazi Jaan Ki Bazi Hai, Aur Tum Ye Bazi Haro Gae, Har Ghar Se Bhutto Niklay Ga, Tum Kitnay Bhutto Maro Gey’.After the assassination of Ms Benazir, the verses are rendered almost at every event related to the Pakistan People’s Party.
During his four-decade or so association with the PPP, the staunch worker never expected any reward except recognition of the commitment he had with the Bhutto’s ideology.
Basically a Punjabi poet, Kavi was content with his fate – writing verses against dictatorial regimes while selling Paan and cigarettes at a kiosk outside a friend’s hotel along GT Road in Jhelum to make both ends meet – till February this year when his health started deteriorating.
He was brought to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust Cancer Hospital in Lahore where after various tests, Kavi was told he had prostate cancer. By the time funds to the tune of Rs250,000 collected by his friends lapsed.
After a private TV channel broadcast a documentary highlighting the agony of the ‘ideological worker’ in March, Kavi was invited to the Governor’s House for a day and two nights.
Governor Latif Khosa promised to bear all expenses of Kavi’s treatment but has yet to honour his commitment.
At present, the 65-year-old poet is staying with a friend in Mohafiz Town, waiting for a miracle – arrangement of funds — before Sept 28 when he has to get admitted to the SKMT for further treatment.

RIP Kavi Sb
RIP Uncle From your nephew
Great man
May God rest your soul in peace.
We also recommend that Mr. Kavi’s name be considered for a posthumous award in recognition of his services to the people of Pakistan.
How about declaring him a SHAHEED?
Name of a person is not as important as the work he or she does. Naseer Kavi sahab, I never knew of him nor ever heard of him, but his couplet has a resonating impact on us Jiyalas. May he rest in peace.
Another great thing after watching his clips above is the belief in his own capabilities and tawakkal in what is given by Allah. He was a paan farosh but his profession didnt over come his capabilities of a very good poet. May Allah rest his soul in peace.
He also was not demanding anything for himself, something which a lot of party walas just dont get it…always chanting qurbani!
