When Sheikh Rashid said about Benazir: “She heats up like a . . . .”
If you go to the NA-55 area of Rawalpindi these days, you will be struck by the billboards which show Sheikh Rashid with Benazir. The impression one will get is that Sheikh Rashid stands for Benazir.
He, for his part, has let it be known that he has prayed at the site of Benazir’s martyrdom near Liaqat Bagh. The leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party has asked its voters to vote for Rashid and ensure his victory. Wherever he goes, Rashid misses no opportunity to praise Benazir’s contributions to democracy. He calls her a martyr and a great leader of Pakistan. He actually does not call her by her name any more, but by “Mohtarma”.
Why is the People’s Party helping Sheikh Rashid? One answer is that it is the ISI which wants a Rottweiler in the parliament who could bite anyone suspected even of scowling at the very name “Army”. The budget session is nearby and the Army has asked for more money which it will not allow anyone to audit it or talk about. Rashid’s presence will make a good addition to bully in case one or two MNAs should they hazard a comment on the money for the Army. This however is not an issue. In Pakistan, no one can challenge the Army.
What I was personally reminded of was the year 1988 when Nawaz Sharif, backed by the ISI and General Aslam Beg, declared Benazir, then the country’s prime minister, a “security risk” for Pakistan. It was on one evening in Mochi Gate in Lahore where Nawaz Sharif’s Muslim League held a rally against Benazir. Every speaker including Nawaz Sharif demonized Benazir for being a foreign agent (India) and called for her removal as prime minister. But it was Sheikh Rashid who stole the show. When he spoke everyone fell silent. Nawaz Sharif had a mischievous and conspiratorial smile on his chubby face reinforced by his shining bald head and rotund belly.
The moment Sheikh Rashid took to the rostrum the atmosphere was electrified with anticipation of a welcome volley of filth for which he has been notorious since he was handpicked by General Zia ul Haq to be a part of his team in the 1980s.
Those who did not attend the speech will only marginally understand what I am going to write because it was Rashid’s body language and the use of hands and fingers which filled in all the innuendos and gutter talk in which he launched himself. He began, “These days her [Benazir’s] situation is going up and coming down [O de halat uttay thally ho rai ne.].” He used his right thumb up and down suggestively which meant something so lewd that I cannot write it here. Then he made fun of her for losing her temper and said: “O barai chaiti garam ho jandi aye! [She heats up very fast].” With that he moved his four fingers and thumb like he was closing and opening them. This meant barking of a bitch. He called Benazir a bitch. He was hilariously applauded by the audience and the Mysllim League leadwrs including Nawaz Sharif.
There is much more he said about Benazir, but I cannot bring myself to write because it pains me to write about the woman who is not alive anymore. But the man who actually said that has never repented.
The People’s Party should be ashamed for having supported this man who has no shame and no sense of honor. What is the difference between Sheikh Rashid and the leadership of the People’s Party?
No fan of Sheeda Tully, but this article is quite like Hamid Mir’s show on the topic last night.
http://cafepyala.blogspot.com/
Now I want Tully to win just to spite the biggest anti-PPP and anti-democratic political party called GeoTV.
what I wrote is based upon facts. Then why do you want to bring in a liar and ISI agent Hamid Mir?
excellent article, Omar. I don’t know why we Pakistanis have such a short memory. BTW, I am posting this article by Raja Asghar from 1988 which is relevant to your post:

Agree with the author. Even though I’m no fan of N-League, still I’m happy that Sheikh has been dealth such a humiliating defeat in election. PPP should never have even covertly supported this third rate person
Rabia
Thanks for your comment and the url of the article. I remember that during the 1988 election campaign Jamat-e-Islami distributed forged pictures of Benazir showing her naked and having sex with white men. This is from a party which believes in Islam!
On the insistence of Mr Omar Khattab that I should comment on Sheikh Rasheed!
Comment are as under:
“Peddler” is the word for Sheikh Rasheed and Peddler is the word for those who unleashed the likes of Sheikh Rasheed and Khwaja Asif who cannot even behave in front of a woman. Gentlemen don’t tease even the Prostitutes but these two two are not even worth to be invited in any decent gathering.
Aamir Sain
It was a request. Thanks for your response. I agree with you.
People like Sheikh Rasheed should be kept miles apart…I don’t know if PPP leadership really instructed their voters of Pindi to support Sheikh Rasheed. If that was the case than shame on the PPP’s top leadership. They’ll continue eating 100 piyaz and 1000 jootay!
It is again Geo tv propaganda that PPP voters have been instructed to vote for Shiekh Rasheed, not a single member of CEC, MNA or MPA has ever remotely requested people to vote for him. On ground some local members have indeed supported him but a larger number have been advocating for N-League.
Sheikh Rashid was really supported by PPP to put him against Nawaz (obviously PPP can not do it publically as he is a well known abuser of BB since long, till now but PPP did wanted to bring down the ‘so called’ fame of Nawaz) PPP did not brought their candidate for the election due to the reasons best known to every body i.e. their fame, what ever is left. Yes its a shame for them as SR is a loud vulgur guy and every body needs him in their favor within parliament to bark against the opponent. SR do have a nuisance value. Nawaz knows that now SR’s luck stars are right in the gutters thats why Nawaz stood against all who were favoring him other wise our politics is so filthy that there was a possibility that Nawaz would have used SR again as SR was much desirious to join again PMLN. He is a opportunist and can not be termed as loyal to any body. I think what Geo and Tallat Hussain did, was just to remind the voter that SR is an opportunist and not a loyal to the people. Thats the information that a voter needs right before the voting. I dont know about Geo, are they black mailers or agents of somebody. Attack on him was a well thought out self created drama which failed to turn out as a melodrama in his favor rather it went against him as now people are much aware. I consider it my immediate right before voting, to know all the facts about to whom I am giving my valuable vote. Due to this media, good or bad, not 100% but now we (Pakistanis) know the extent of reliability and trustworthiness and character of any body. Remember the candidate of Nawaz league in Pindi, ”Haji…….” ,found guilty of bogus intermediate degree. Who can trust them being a haji or having white beard on them. The featured topic above is about Rana Sana ullah, apart from his above current scandal amongst many, he is also liable to be prosecuted on the Lahore Plaza case. There are hundreds of such true stories and examples from the past before media evolution. Unknowingly we kept on voting the filth and kept on empowering all of them, all means all the parties. This gang have become a legion now and have roots in the establishment making them ”Untouchables” and we are left with no option to see the seesaw of these people but things are changing. It is better to know rather than being left in the dark, so lets know and then judge the truth. This is an evolution process in the history of Pakistan, let the awared people power come in power. Blog sites are itself a substance of creating awareness amongst the masses. We must not blame the medium but must debate on the matters.
Very well written comment.
jo kuch b keh lo ap log….per jo kaam shaikh rashid ne pindi ki awam k liay kiay hain woh pooray pakistan main koi b prime minister reh kar b nai kar saka. .

Sheikh rashid is a great man, compare to Asif zerdari, benazir and Nawaz.

Very well writen about Sheikh Rasheed. He is the worst oppertunist of the day and has been justfully humiliated and rejected twice or thrice by the voters of the NA-55 but he is devoid of the abilties to learn a lesson after being defeated so shamefully.
