Imran Khan Fan Club Gets Necessary Thrust – Welcome Dr. Adil Najam

Dr. Adil Najam has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of Lahore University of Management Sciences. We congratulate him on his appointment. His appointment will usher a new era for Imran Khan’s support base (also called grass roots) in the urban elite of Pakistan. Soon we will see an official launch of Insaf Students Federation’s launch at LUMS. Dr. Najam will be declared patron of the Imran Khan Lovers Club. We wish him the very best. He is an IT pioneer in Pakistan and his writings on blogs will bring about change in the country. Next step would be for him to be rewarded as a member of Board of Governors of Shaukat Khanam Memorial Trust.

Dr. Adil Najam appointed as the third VC of LUMS

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Adil Najam has been appointed the third Vice Chancellor of LUMS. He follows Dr. Ahmad Jan Durrani (2008-2011) and Dr. Syed Zahoor Hassan (2002-2008) who have held this office before him.

Dr. Adil Najam is a leading authority on global public policy. He holds the Frederick S. Pardee Chair for Global Public Policy at Boston University where he also serves as the Director of the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and is a tenured Professor of International Relations and Geography and the Environment. Earlier he served as a Professor of Negotiations and Diplomacy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He has also taught at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) and the University of Massachusetts (UMass).

Dr. Najam received his PhD and two Masters Degrees from MIT and a Bachelors degree from UET (Lahore). He also completed a specialisation in international negotiation from the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.

Dr. Najam was a lead author for the third and fourth assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), work for which the IPCC was awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize along with Al Gore. In 2008 he was invited by the United Nations Secretary General to serve on the UN Committee on Development (CDP). In 2010 he was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan. He also serves on the Advisory Board for the 2011 Human Development report of the UNDP.

Dr. Najam has published over 100 scholarly papers and book chapters and is author and editor of numerous books. He is a past winner of MIT’s Goodwin Medal for Effective Teaching, the Fletcher School Paddock Teaching Award, the Stein Rokan Award of the International Political Sciences Association, and the ARNOVA Emerging Scholar Award. Dr. Najam has also served on the editorial boards of various scholarly publications, including Global Governance, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, The Journal of Ecological Economics, the Journal of Human Development and Capabilities, and The Encyclopedia of Earth.

We welcome Dr. Najam’s appointment and hope that he will further strengthen the vision and goals of LUMS.
