Dictatorial forces removed Bhutto to destabilize Pakistan: Afridi
PESHAWAR, Nov 30 (APP): PPP Central Advisor for FATA, Inayatullah Khan Afridi on Tuesday said that dictatorial forces had removed the charismatic leaders, Zulfiqar Ali (ZA) Bhutto and his illustrious daughter, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed in a bid to destabilize Pakistan. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the FATA PPP leader said ZA Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto were leaders of international calibre and the imperialist and dictatorial forces removed them from the political scene in a bid to weaken democracy and destabilise Pakistan.
“The rulers who ruled over the hearts and minds of the nation never feared death; like the case of ZA Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto,” he added. The forces loyal to democracy have now learned that wrangling between the political parties has strengthened the hands of dictators and our parliamentary history is replete with such happenings.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had formed PPP on November 30, 1967 in Lahore when there were a political vacuum in the country. ZA Bhutto had united people under the platform of PPP and made struggle for rule of law, democracy and socio-economic emancipation of poor strata.
The Bhutto’s political acumen was acknowledged even by her political opponents and critics who termed them leaders of international stature. ZA Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto’s thinking was democratic and progressive, and that they wanted to strengthen democracy and democratic institutions.
Benazir Bhutto Shaheed could have handled the prevailing crises in a befitting manner in existing PPP government if they were alive today.
He said Benazir advocated political, social and economic empowerment of FATA people and always laid great emphasis on their education, poverty alleviation and establishment of industries to provide jobs to the unemployed.
The mission of Bhutto would be completed as they are still alive in peoples’ hearts, he added.
* Urges party to educate youth on origins of party and sacrifices
ISLAMABAD: On the eve of the 44th Founding Day of Pakistan People’s Party on November 30, President Asif Ali Zardari asked party leaders and office bearers to educate people particularly the younger generation about origins of PPP and its achievements and sacrifices for democracy.
“Let us on this day, reiterate our commitment to tread the footsteps of our leaders Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto to build a modern, progressive and democratic Pakistan in which poor, downtrodden and the marginalised sections of society, including the minorities will also live with honour and dignity,” he said.
He said the party has always served the masses with distinction and will continue to do so in the future as well.
The co-chairman recalled the achievements of the PPP during the past 40 years, including the unanimous 1973 Constitution, giving voice to the voiceless, strengthening defence through nuclear and missile technology and giving rights to the minorities, labour, women and the marginalised.
The present PPP-led government restored the 1973 Constitution through the 18th Amendment, took the terrorists head on, launched Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to alleviate poverty and empower women, made workers share holders in the state run enterprises, introduced far-reaching political reforms in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), announced far reaching reforms in the Tribal Areas and extricated the country out of near economic meltdown.
“These are no small achievements for any political party that does not have a parliamentary majority let alone a majority needed for amendments in the Constitution,” he said and asked the party office bearers to educate the people of Pakistan and especially the PPP workers about these great achievements. No matter what the detractors may say or do, Bhuttoism will continue to empower the people and extricate them from deprivation and despondency, he said. Zardari also paid glowing tribute to the party workers for their steadfastness and sacrifices. app
karwaan-e-jamhooriat:
party goes from father to daughter then to son-in-law and then to grandson!
party is treated like an heirloom & no jialays, no “faithful servants of democracy” ever raise their voice? Anyone who protests is suspended from party membership. How can a party claim itself to be a democratic force when there has never been any intra-party elections?
The democratic facade of this party has long been exposed. Plz stop trumpeting this “jamhoriat baja” & at least for now focus on showing some performance in government.
& uffff such slavish attitude of ppp jialays. Bhutto & bhuttoism is more dear to them than paksitan & pakistaniat. Bhutto had success at various fronts. But he had failures too. PPP can never move forward unless it get rids of the serflike mindset.
