Women form an important part in building the society and our lives. Being a daughter, a sister, a wife and a mother a woman’s responsibilities increase with time. Despite the role she plays, her abilities, status and existence are under-estimated, degraded and she is exploited merely on the basis of her gender which is considered less than that of a man.

Firstly education for women in Pakistan should be pushed for on all levels to equip them with the awareness of their rights and facilitate the utilization of their potential which can be later be beneficial for the nation building as the women will have opportunities to work in diverse fields.

Even in this 21st century in Pakistan which elected the first woman PM of the Muslim World in 1988 women are made a target of violence and their rights are usurped. From Karo-Kari, Vani, Sawara to killing – women are not safe. However if we look back at history, from the independence movement of Pakistan, Miss Fatima Jinnah worked evidently and proudly for the creation of our motherland. She is rightfully known as as Madi-re-Mila .

Begum Nusrat Bhutto was one of the first to drive a car in Pakistan in her time, her elder daughter Benazir Bhutto Shaheed rendered her services and her own life for Pakistan in her stint as Prime Minister twice and her return to her homeland in 2007.

Now Dr. Fahminda Mirza as the Speaker of the National Assembly has shown that women are equal to men and can perform all duties that men do, or even better. From the first women police station to the first women bank, Pakistan Peoples Party has always given priority to the welfare of the women.

Therefore continuing this, many progressive programs on Benazir Bhutto Shaheed’s name have been initiated for the betterment of women in Pakistan, the most popular of which is ‘Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme’ through which poor women get training for few months with 4000 to 6000 earning. PPP needs to plan more schemes like the aforementioned to enable women to come out and help build Pakistan.

Moreover and above all, with the formulation of these projects – their implementation and effectiveness should be ensured and further plans to identify areas of work where these women would apply their skill should be made.

As the founder of Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah had said :

“No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side
by side with you.”
