Malik ‘lodges case’ at press club against misreporting

After all, politicians are human beings and have a level of tolerance. That level of tolerance varies from person to person. Rahman Malik is at the receiving end most of the time especially from those belonging to the Taliban Union of Journalists. We all know who those journalists are. In an interesting meeting, Rahman Malik has pleaded the journalists to do accountability of their colleagues who are spreading false news about him. Most interesting! Wonder if the holy cows in the media will be ever held accountable.

Malik ‘lodges case’ at press club against misreporting

ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: Interior Minister Rehman Malik made a novel move on Tuesday of asking the community of journalists to decide his case against ‘misreporting’ about his resignation.

Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club, he said he would never leave the country because his “life and death were associated with the homeland”.

He said he had informed his lawyer about the persons responsible for threat to his life.

“A private channel has run a false news of my resignation. I lodge my case with the National Press Club and demand damages of Rs1 billion from the channel for misreporting,” he said.

“I can lodge a case under criminal laws but I have preferred to lodge the case with the press club so that the issue may be resolved as a family dispute,” he added.

Mr Malik expressed sorrow over reports by the BBC and Al Jazeera channels that his son had escaped, saying he had gone abroad for studies.

“I lodge my case in front of a journalists’ tribunal and will accept its decision,” he said.

Pervez Shaukat, president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, assured the minister that a committee would be set up on the matter.
