New header on LUBP
New header (Green background with crescent and star) on LUBP is to dispel the impression that we are an official blog of the PPP.
LUBP has always been a voluntary project comprising supporters of the PPP and other progressive parties. We are fiercely independent and have never been financially supported by the PPP, nor did we ever seek financial assistance from anyone.
Despite this token change (header replacement), we remain critical supporters of the PPP and all other progressive parties and individuals. The aim is not to break the ideological link with the PPP but to expand our outreach.
However, this doesn’t mean we will not critically evaluate PPP and other political parties. We have published critical posts on the PPP and other parties in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
The current change also reflects the fact that the anti-PPP vote constitutes about 60 per cent of Pakistan’s population. We should not deny them the opportunity to read our message.
Quite a few of our readers are reluctant to join us wrongly considering us as paid propagandists of the PPP, which we are not. This change will also address their misgivings.
More importantly, we remain independent, critical, progressive and inclusive. Our bold stance on politics, human rights advocacy and media watch is the main distinction we have from other “liberals and progressives”.
Last but not least, LUBP is not an appropriate forum for pseudo-liberal elites and their middle class wannabe flatterers. Nor are we designed to serve the agendas or wishes of paid propagandists. If there are folks who can’t bear our critical posts on the PPP or the so called champions of civil society and liberalism, they need to remind themselves that LUBP is not the right place for them.
Good move. I always thought you were funded by Haqqani or PPP.
@Owl
In fact, a bad move. This is an ideological deviation from PPP leadership. Too bad.
You should also hear the counter view:
Ali Arqam @aliarqam
#LUBP has removed #PPP flag from its header, the last worst thing they can do to the blog!!!

That is good for PPP “@aliarqam: #LUBP has removed #PPP flag from its header, the last worst thing they can do to the blog!!!”
meena gabeena @gabeeno
@ElyasKakar @takhalus @aliarqam may be they don’t want to politicize it… It’s ok.. It will still have great news 🙂
Ali Arqam @aliarqam
@gabeeno Badi der se khayal aya inhein, asal mey ab wahan political issues bhi kam hi hogaye hein, @ElyasKakar @takhalus
Ali Taj @AliAbbasTaj
@beenasarwar @aliarqam everyone has an opinion. I admire #LUBP and #PB for their work on #ShiaGenocide, so do you. Else is opinion.
Ali Arqam @aliarqam
@AliAbbasTaj If populism, number of hits, FB following are aims to be achieved, #Geo #Jang still most highly visited sites @beenasarwar
Another view:
#FCS urban legend: LUBP was once a popular, worthy blog, nor more. #Fact: Despite our opinionated pieces, more than 10k facebook followers.
salma jafar @Chiltan
@AbdulNishapuri did PPP ask #LUBP to remove its flag?
1h Abdul Nishapuri @AbdulNishapuri
@Chiltan No. It was our own decision to dispel the false impression and also to be more inclusive in our appeal and audience.
1h salma jafar @Chiltan
@AbdulNishapuri K – I didn’t know it was “false”
57m Nayab Zahra @silverskyN
@Chiltan @AbdulNishapuri me neither :S I thought it had something to do with #PPP
Emotions and sentiments aside, I think overall it is a good move. A tad too late though.
LUBP should have been politically NEUTRAL from DAY ONE!
that still doesnt change the web address of criticalPPP.com
@Suprah_
should have been done at the beginning of blog. lets not forget that it remains http://criticalPPP.com retaining Jiyala-ness
Its a wise move. Most people just move away as soon as see the PPP header while other biased blogs pretending to be neutral are more successful.
“LUBP has always been a voluntary project comprising supporters of the PPP and other progressive parties. We are fiercely independent and have never been financially supported by the PPP, nor did we ever seek financial assistance from anyone”.
