Peace activist accuses intel agencies of harassment

Staff Report

LAHORE: Peace activist Saeeda Diep, founder of the Institute for Peace and Secular Studies, claimed on Wednesday that intelligence agencies are constantly harassing her for supporting Indo-Pak peace.

Diep made these remarks while addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club. She said that she had been living in Lahore for 15 years and had supported peace activities at all forums. Diep said that she travelled to India frequently, due to which the intelligence agencies had been constantly harassing her.

The peace activist said that she had protested against the Shantinagar massacre of 1999 and had been visiting India as part of the people-to-people contact and some Indian delegates had also visited her home. ”I have been taken to police stations, forcibly picked up from the Lahore Press Club by intelligence personnel, constantly threatened on the phone, while my contact diary has been stolen.

These people keep on asking the same question that who is your husband and provide us the full details of your family,” Diep said. She alleged that personnel of the ISI, IB and Police Special Branch interrogated her in a humiliating manner and she had even written a letter to the ISI DG on May 22 to protest against the harassment.
