Is Dr. Shahid Masood ready for “Rule of Law”?

From this report in Dawn it seems that it has come to the notice of the Public Accounts committee (headed by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan) that when Dr. Shahid Masood tendered his resignation from PTV, he did not provide the required six months notice and so was liable to pay Rs. 5.1 million in lieu of the notice period. Since this amount has not been paid by Dr. Shahid Masood, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has backed PTVC’s decision to serve a legal notice to Dr. Shahid Masood.

Interestingly, Hamid Mir had alleged in late May that a campaign was underway to destroy Jang group. In this campaign, the weapon of fake cases would be used against Shahid Masood while Hamid Mir himself was being targetted with fake tapes. In a very ironic twist it seems possible that Dr Shahid Masood will claim political victimization or politically motivated cases filed against him as a defence since he has categorically denied that he owes any money to PTV. He claims that the clauses of his employment contract were modified during his resignation process.

At LUBP we have every hope that Dr. Shahid Masood who has so far held the government up to a very high standard of morality on issues such as fake degree, corruption, rule of law, judicial appointments, LNG contract scandal, and many other points of criticism will allow the law to take its due course in his own case rather than hiding behind claims of political victimization.
