A tribute to Nusrat Javed, the courageous anchorperson of Aaj TV’s Bolta Pakistan; What do ordinary Pakistanis think about Nusrat Javed?
On 12 December 2008, I saw Nusrat Javed at his best. Nusrat Javed and Mushtaq Minhas discussed isssues related to the Mumbai attacks. While Mushtaq Minah represents the populist, pro-Jihadi, pro-Taliban voice in Pakistan, Nusrat is the voice of reflection, soul-searching and rationale.
Nusrat Javed, you are a true Pakistani, we salute you.

Musharraf Suspended Aaj TV for Nusrat Javed Appearance on Political Talk Show
Musharraf government suspends TV station: Report by The Committee to Protect Journalists

New York, February 7, 2008—The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf’s decision to remove independent broadcaster Aaj TV from air for more than 12 hours.
Satellite transmissions of Aaj were shut down Wednesday after a prominent critic of the Musharraf government, Nusrat Javed, appeared on a late-night political talk show, according to The Associated Press. Aaj was among more than 40 channels that were taken off air soon after Musharraf declared a state of emergency and suspended the country’s constitution on November 3. Though all the channels eventually broadcast again, many did so only after taking anchors and journalists critical of the government off the air and curtailing live coverage of demonstrations and other events that showed opposition to the government.
“We have repeatedly opposed the Musharraf government’s attempts to restrict the press as Pakistan’s political situation has grown worse,” said Joel Simon, CPJ’s executive director. “Now, in the run-up to the elections scheduled for February 18, the situation is growing increasingly critical. It is time for those governments that claim to support a democratic process in Pakistan, and who have thrown their support behind President Musharraf, to exert pressure on him to ensure a free and open media can cover the electoral process without fear of punishment.”
Aaj was shut down midway through the live talk show “Live with Talat,” a popular political show, after Javed appeared as a guest, The Associated Press reported. He had also anchored his own popular late night show, “Bolta Pakistan” (Talking Pakistan) before the November 3 clampdown.
The station had resumed transmission on Thursday, and a spokesman for the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority told The Associated Press the block had never occurred.

What do ordinary Pakistanis think about Nusrat Javed?

Re: Bolta Pakistan 12th December 2008
Nusrat does have a soft corner for PPP-P but today he was trying to make a very imp point. i.e, referring to all the problems in India would not improve our image in the world, instead what is needed is a well conceived stance in the international community.
Mushtaaq was just babbling about the usual street arguments like state of muslims in india, indian involvement in baluchistan etc., why do we (media/govt) tolerate India if we are so sure?
Silverblaze says:
Re: Bolta Pakistan 12th December 2008
We as Pakistanis deserve to be ruled by the mullah military alliance. Mushtaq minhas went to the extent of holding bhutto solely responsible for 71 imbroglio. Isn’t it a fact that our mullahas are the most duplicitous creatures. Mullahism has ruined pakistan and will continue to do so. Its strange that a nation whose founder was one of the most progressive and modern statesmen, values mullahism more than anything. Why our people like to heap blame on others, instead of bringing our own house in order? Lashker jhangvi, Lashkar e tayyeba, sipah sahaba, sipha muhammad, jaish e muhammad, harkutal mujahideen and countless others, haven’t they ruined our social fabric? Even if someone beleives that they are heroes, why our we still entrenched in utter darkness ? What went wrong? Why don’t people like mushtaq minhas question those who abhor each other only because of following different sects?
And why is that anywhere in the world pakistani nationals are mostly caught in terror related activities, excluding india and US. Spain, France, germany, UK, australia and else where.
Why not iranians, baharian, turkish and even afghans are not as frequently caught in terror activities?
The mullahs have diminished the true spirit of islam – the most liberal of all religions.

It is never too late to learn. Pakistan will have to loose its obsession with India. India did not break pakistan to form bangladesh. Stop blaming India, and do some soul searching within yourself and the reason for the formation is pretty obvious. It is painful but denial only yields this obsessive animosity with India. The solution lies in your Quad-e-azam’s philosophy. As far as i Know he would have never imagined that pakistan would become a fundamentalist islamic state it has become now.

(To those pro-jihadi, pro-Taliban Pakistanis who are in a mode of denial)
1. I dont believe in dawn / bbc stories about Ajmal being from pakistan, i will believe in what i want to belive.
2. The UN security council had enough proof to act in 3 days. it is exceptional but i will ignore it.
3. Even china did not veto, but i will deny that to myself.

Nusrat Javed did a superb job in the face of monumental stupidity by Mushtaq “Non Sequiter” Minhas.
Keep your head in the sand son, this BENT OVER posture is exactly what your ex-masters need to a55-rape you this time around as you and your beardo friends act like jilted girlfriends whose hot boyfriend named Uncle Sam started banging a new Indian girlfriend. Leaving the beardos to repeat endlessly… “bbbbutt bbbuttt you said YOU JIHADED ME!! 🙁 ”
Way to go! GI JOE!
If Mushtaq Minhas is such a true jihadi, why doesn’t he go and help out the taliban against his ex-masters the Americans?
And I did not hear a frikking word coming from him condemning the actions of jamat-ud-dava
Can anyone tell me why a ‘mere charity” have brandished sword(s) on its flag and logo? What does a charity have with a sword?? really what FVCKING connection does a charity have with a sword? to the point of putting it on its godforsaken flag?

Peaceful charity my a$$.
You want to free Kashmir? How about convincing at least ONE Kashmiri Indian Occupied Kashmir to go along with your dumbass idea of ‘an operation’ that puts Pakistan in jeopardy?
Shame on Mushtaq Minhas, another closet Faux-Jihadi supporter.
Denial! please wake up dear pakistanis.

The following clip is dedicated to Nusrat Javed for fighting steadfastly in the battle against utter stupidity and non-sense and not giving in (despite his occasional jiyala-pan, he’s right in this instance).

Just read the last part of this report published on the website of JuD re: Nir Rosen’s reportage on the AFghan war for The Rolling Stone magazine.

The last paragraph is quite interesting. The author declars a suicide terrorist bomber as “a mujahid” who blew up a 3000lb explosive etc.

We are emotional nation,I fully support Nusrat Javed’s Views.
Mumbai bombing is onething, how can we justify all those bombs and killings in pakistan by those organisations????
“When you turn a man into a beast, its not you anymore calling the shots”
When you turn a normal person into a militant, how could you expect everyone to do exactly as you asked him to.
We need to ban all militant organisations and do a complete rout,Zero tolerance for militancy, whether its MQM ,JI or so called pakistani taliban(thugs).
Lets all say enough is enough….

Were it Pakistanis who supported these organizations to fight on behalf of US with Soviets in Afghanistan?
OR
All the previous Govts of Pakistan, KSA & USA?
Who gave these organisations arms, training, money & authority? Is it that difficult to uncover or uncovering would backfire?
why you giys dig into the roots instead of jumping up & down with the wind?
I do want a peaceful Pakistan, terrorist-free but I need all those to be punished whoever is involved & uncover them all.
selective justice & punishment would leave us nowhere.

How long we will remain in state of denial. Nusrat Javed did this program very honestly while Mushtaq acted emotionally.
Mushtaq maybe trying to boost the moral of Pakistani people but it is very dangerous to play with emotions of innocent Pakistani people. I think Pakistan establishment has to change their policy towards India because Pakistan has not achieved anything against India with this foolish policy. I do not think either that India would be a good friend of Pakistan. Pakistan needs to be transformed into a strong, developed, peaceful and democratic country. A country which should be respected in the world and not a country who each time just narrowly escape from to be called default or terrorist state.
How can it is possible?
Pakistan needs a leadership, a leadership who is clean, can become role model for Pakistani people and also smart and able who can deliver to Pakistan.

Those who believe that these lashkers and dawa and other extremist are justified should re think many times.
there is no space or sympathy with lashkars or others amongst the kashmiri people (occupied).
those Lashkars and other militants have gave bad name to just cause of Kashmir.
Pakistanis should not play with fire any more as there is no breathing space is left, don’t commit a suicide.
Come out of that state of mind ” one day we will defeat the infidels” as we will suicide and suicide is HARAM in Islam according to Holly Quran .

I do not agree with NJ most of the times because of his jiyala pan as I am a NS supporter. But this time he is 100% correct. Minhas is acting like a moron when he denies outright that the captured guy is not a Pakistani.
We need to end our denial phase as a nation. This world is no more a Naseem Hijazi novel.

I have recently started watching Aaj Tv on www.jumptv.com . One of my favorite programs is ‘Bolta Pakistan’. Nusrat Javed has become my favorite (urdu) media personality after Talat Hussain. His witty yet cynical temperament, laced with eloquent urdu (with a punjabi tarka), seems to have won over many fans. His co-host is a up and coming wahabi loving journalist from rawalpindi. He’s often the butt of Nusrat’s affectionate taunts. Just the other day mr. Minhas was passing random fatwas when Nusrat interrupted him. He goes something like ‘
QUOTE
Yar mushtaq tum baray parhay likhay ho, meri islamic education kafi mehdood hay, tum toe Qum aur Jama-e-Azhar donon kay parhay huway ho…’
.. This was way too hilarious. Mushtaq minhas ka moonh aadha reh gaya.
Does anyone know if this guy is a matarwa? his urdu is beautiful, but he knows punjabi too. May be he’s like me 😉

…just to add my own 2 cents, I too find Nusrat Javed quite amazing. And a lot of people may have heard about him, for the first time, through Bolta Pakistan, but he has been a journalist for over 30 years, and has been extensively covering the Parliament. .. he is quite secular in his views and has been struggling for the independence of journalism in Pakistan for a long time.
A “jiyala” at heart, Nusrat Javed was quite critical of Mian Nawaz Sharif’s last government and was brutally tortured by the agencies
Nusrat is indeed a good Journalist. you may disagree with him in some points but he is a good person.
