LUBP Editor’s note: While the following incident has been reported as motivated by ethnic hatred, some of the names and the fact that the victims were returning from Iran suggests that a sectarian motive may not be over-ruled. Terrorists of Jundullah (the Balochistan version of Sipah-e-Sahaba) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) are previously known to collaborate in the target killing of Shia and/or Hazara people in Balochistan.

Four Punjabis shot dead in Balochistan’s border town
* Victims had just returned from Iran, were leaving for Karachi

QUETTA: Four Punjabis returning from Iran were ambushed and killed and two others were critically injured by unidentified gunmen at a local bus terminal in the border township of Mand on Saturday.

The victims had returned to Pakistan from Iran and were to board a Karachi-bound passenger bus at the Bullo terminal, when gunmen approached them and asked them to establish their identity.

The victims claimed to be Iranians knowing the risk of identifying them as Punjabi expatriates passing through remote township of Mand in central Makran. When asked to produce their identity papers, it was found that they were residents of Lahore and Faisalabad.

According to eye-witnesses, all the victims hooded their faces attracting the attention of every one passing through the bus terminal. Presumably, there was a mistaken identity considering them as personnel from the Frontier Corps, they claimed.

According to another report, the victims were sitting at the bus terminal and were about to leave for Karachi when unidentified assailants opened fire on them killing three of them on the spot while injuring three others.

The deceased have been identified as Nadeem Faiz, Naeem Sada Hussain, Hassan Zulfiqar and Sikandar Qasim while injured as Khalil Bashir and Mohammad Waseem Sada Hussain.

Official sources confirmed that it was a case of target killing. Levies personnel cordoned off the whole area soon after the incident and launched a manhunt for the killers. No one claimed the responsibility for the multiple murders. (Source)
