Cyril Almeida’s story on Balochistan is attributable to…?

Cyril Almeida’s column on Balochistan (Balochistan, the unattributable story, Dawn, 26 Feb 2012) is an example of how Pakistan’s military establishment manufactures confusion and obfuscation through friendly journalists.

The column is an example of how false neutrality and contrarian views are used to obfuscate military state’s atrocities against innocent civilian (Baloch nationalists in this case).

According to Cyril, recent release of a few Baloch missing persons is “a nod to the pressure from the media and the political chatter.” Hey, you forgot the US hearing?

Cyril clearly presents and justifies Pakistan army’s brutal kill and dump policy when he writes:

People keep saying that the policy [kill and dump] isn’t working but that opinion isn’t shared by everyone.

There haven’t been any settler killings in 11 months in and around Quetta. Even in the so-called non-tribal belt, the insurgents have been pushed out of the cities and into the hills.”

It is the same author who previously justified extra-judicial killing of Baloch intellectual Professor Saba Dashtiyari by citing an unnamed intelligence source who claimed that Dasthiyari had links with Baloch militants.

Dear Cryil: There is no confusion and chaos about the situation in Balochistan except those who want to remain confused or have been tasked to confuse the ordinary public.

Last three paragraph of Cyril’s column are focused on refuting the claim that ‘Musharraf knew Osama was in Pakistan’. This is called halal ki rozi (to earn a legitimate living)!
