Pictures of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto – compiled by Shahid Saeed

Cross-posted from his blog

It would be an understatement to say that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto has admirers as passionate as the people who hate them. He divides opinion like no other politician in our country and the marks he left continue to haunt this country, in both good and bad ways. His political legacy is still alive and Zia only immortalized the myth of Bhutto. These pictures of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto have been taken from some pictorial biographies, archives and personal collections of a few people who chose to remain anonymous. I have around five hundred of ZAB’s photographs and portraits, three quarters of which are ones rarely seen even by people enthusiastic about political history. From time to time, I’ll upload a dozen or so pictures that I find interesting or noteworthy. If pictorial history isn’t interesting enough, I’m sorry.

Simla
The Simla Agreement has a lot of significance in our history. ZAB successfully negotiated the release of POWs, side stepped various tricky things on Bangladesh and carried out a successful diplomatic mission with his head held high. I need not lecture about the talks and the agreement’s importance. For that, please refer to other books or wikipedia.

Another one of those brilliant pictures where he is coming out of court jubilantly. I always wonder if he realized the seriousness of the trial in the early days of the proceedings
