Basic Questions on “Lack of Trust” in government
Currently, the people of Pakistan are enduring the worst flooding in history. The destruction has been unprecedented. Millions have been displaced, nearly 0.7 million homes destroyed. Communication networks wiped out. Bridges washed away. Roads are no more.
People who have been moved or forced to move from their homes have three challenges to endure: Relief in which they need to be given due shelter and food to survive. As waters recede and life starts getting back to normal, they will have to be returned to their homes and lands, whatever is left of it. Third and final stage will be Rehabilitation.
Relief is something which private charities and NGO’s can provide. The relief goods like tents, blankets and perishable items will be used at the earliest stage and that too say up until next 2-3 weeks.
How effective the private charities and NGO’s will be effective is anyone’s guess.
Question remains:
- Who will contruct roads?
- Who will construct bridges?
- Who will assist in giving people money to construct their washed away houses?
- Who will give financing to these people to allow them to begin a new life?
Unfortunately, however you may feel, at the end of the day it is something the government will have to do. Our “Nadan” friends in media have been harping the element of mistrust in the current government and also giving false news that “Biradar Islamic Mumalik guzashta mawaqon par apnay khazanay kay muun khol diya kartay thay aur aaj kee hukoomat ko koi mulk kuch deynay ko tayyar nahee“.
My friends, we need to give funds to the government relief fund as eventually whatever needs to be done is to be done at the government platform. Another important question is: Will you be giving out your charity again in a few months time? Probably not. So the time is now and funding the government is utmost important.
My request is that we should forget our petty likes and dislikes and work together to help the people and the government in effectively controlling this humanitarian crisis.
Another important point is history. When last year more than 2.5 IDPs moved from Swat and Malakand, weren’t they taken care of in other places? Weren’t they fed? Weren’t they provided shelter? Weren’t each household sent back to their homes with Rs. 25,000 on way back? If the government was so incapable and had those people not been taken care of, then wouldn’t the media be tarnishing the government everyday?
Also those saying that they trust the Pakistan Army in what they are doing so effectively. Off course, it is the Armed Forces that are trained to respond in times of calamities. Have you ever seen a DCO carrying heavy burdens compared to a soldier? Also where does the Army get all the funds to provide relief? Does they army make funds on its own or does the government give them funds from our money?
These are basic questions for you all to think of and contemplate on a response.
I dont agree with the author of this post as that is/was not the media that is creating distrust over the government in general public. Do not try to distort the fact with lame points. All previous and current international cash aids were/are denied due to this fact and that matter is well known to every body.
Even if that is true and media alone is spreading distrust, then why all the media? all 60 private channels suddenly are against PPP and its current leadership. Does all the media have got a grudge over PPP. Be realistic dont be naieve. PM as being still respected in the political realm had to request Nawaz Sharif and he came to the rescue of that trust. Nawaz himself got little less credibility due to ‘Qarz Utaro Mulk Sanwaro’ scam and thats why he openly asked to head the commission by independent respected observers from the society and is not taking credit of that idea.
Swat and Malakand IDPs were duly taken cared of by Army and not by the government as government was very much busy in making herself established in provinces and was busy fighting with judiciary and NRO.
So far Army has gathered enough funds from the general public which is hundred times high than 4 Million, clearly a shameful time for this government and its entourage.
The only valid point in above post is
”My request is that we should forget our petty likes and dislikes and work together to help the people and the government in effectively controlling this humanitarian crisis.”
”Question remains:
Who will contruct roads?
Who will construct bridges?
Who will assist in giving people money to construct their washed away houses?
Who will give financing to these people to allow them to begin a new life?
Unfortunately, however you may feel, at the end of the day it is something the government will have to do.”
IT IS THE DUTY OF THE GOVERNMENT TO DO ALL ABOVE
Mr. Iqbalabadi
You are very keen to defend PPP but you demonstrate a very shallow understanding of the issues and you need to improve your writing skills as well. It comes accross very childish.
You are pleading that PPP (government) should be trusted and be given more funds!!!!!!. Has the goverment re-built Balakot despite having received billions in Earthquake aid? If you cannot answer that then you are nothing but an intelectually dishonest and bankrupt individual and PPP is worse off with people like you in its midst.
@Nadeem: if it is the duty of the government, then the support to given should be to the government. On the matter of Army taking care of IDP’s, it is nothing but a joke to shun the political government completely and give kudos to the Army.
@Mujahid, thank you for calling me intellectually dishonest. Balakot was to be rebuilt by whom and which government? Hopefully your answer to my question will be sufficient.
@Ahmed, It is tragic that even in such a dire time, there are those who are busy in political point scoring! Actually, aside from Muslim countries, the rest of the world is donating. Many of them are distrustfull because the billions they donated during the Earthquake tragedy of 2005 are unaccounted for! The rest of the world does not buy the petty and selective lynching of Zardari and have already provided IMF and KLB. Its not the politicians of Pakistan who are distrusted globally and that is a fact. From India to Ireland, the rest of the world is donating; they are simply skeptical that this aid is not given over to the Jihadi groups; another thing that cannot be blamed on the PPP government.
It is much better to donate to some trusted NGO (e.g edhi etc) than this government (or rather any pak government). Corruption is rampant. I would never give a penny to the present government. I don’t trust them with my tax money, why should I give them extra money…so that they allocate more and more perks for themselves in the budget.
